Christianity: Christianity is the belief that God sent the Christ to save mankind from their wrongdoing and restore mankind into His presence. According to the scriptures, He sent the Christ because we made a figurative barrier in our relationship with God. The Christ would eliminate the barrier and restore us. The relationship was broken back in the much told (true) story of Adam and Eve. They were in Paradise, they were decieved by Satan to disobey God. God saw their betrayal, and cursed Adam and Eve. But He gave mankind hope, He told them that He will restore the relationship. Until then, they would give sacrifices (calves, for example) for various things. Until, as the Scriptures show, God sent Jesus Christ to be the final sacrifice. He was without sin, and He died on a cross (the Roman's standard execution -- many were killed in this way). He died for us. We sin, He didn't. Our sin may be defined as anything we have done against God. If you mock God, if you lie to your friend, if you kill someone, if you are told not to eat a cookie by your parents and do it anyway. It is all wrong. They are all sins, but different punishments. For example, you may get life in prison if you kill someone, but you won't get life imprisonment for a eating a cookie that you weren't supposed to. However, since God is perfect anything that is done in err like that is defying Him. It is our nature to not live up to His standard. We are a bit too selfish. Christ's death freed us from this. Our sin is washed away from His sacrifice. Even we, as dirty as we are, are allowed to come back to God without our sin standing in the way. This was shown through His love for us. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 Christ rose 3 days after His death, a true miracle. After his death and resurrection, Christ met up with his students and disciples and others. He spoke with them, gave instructions, and He told his disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come. The Holy Spirit -- a part God himself -- was to counsel Christians and give them power. The power to heal, have wisdom, speak different languages, and several more. All Christians believe this to be true: Christ was perfect -- divine. He died on a cross -- was the final sacrifice. He rose three days later -- miraculous. He ascended to Heaven -- alive with God to this day. The Holy Spirit was given to us -- A part of God is with us always. Now, the analogy I heard that makes a bit of sense is the gift. Say you were given a gift by your parents, you didn't deserve the gift, but they gave it anyway. You can either accept this gift that you didn't earn, or you can say that you shouldn't have it. You then do not have the gift, even though your parents say you can have it whenever you want it. The same with Christ. He died for our sin -- everything personally and morally wrong that we have ever done in our lives. It was a gift, a free gift that we don't deserve. Thus, you accept the gift and are given salvation. Or you reject the gift, and are still condemned. To accept the gift is easier than one might think. You don't have to become perfect first, you don't have to be nice to everyone first. None of that. All you have to do is "...Confess with your mouth that 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.'" Romans 10:9-11 When you believe, God's Holy Spirit enters you, and His nature will be shown. He desires for us to love everyone. Just as He loved you, He was willing to give and gave his life for you. "'Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.' When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?' Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off -- for all whom the Lord our God will call.'" Acts 2:36-39 Paul speaks in Athens: Acts 17:16-32 16While Paul was waiting for them[Silas and timothy] in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. 18A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean." 21(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.) 22Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you. 24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' 29"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stonean image made by man's design and skill. 30In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." 32When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject." I was searching for some ways to get the Bible out to anyone who wants it, and the best I could find was a PDF format King James Version Bible... Click to view it, or right-click and go "Save target as..." if you want to save it to your computer. KVJ Bible in English.
