Latest Blackhawk news I realized one of the last Blackhawks that is still playing high school hockey is finishing up high school. And did he finish with a bang. Congrats to Mike Costa, the 2005-06 Shore Conference First team goalie. Heck of a season. Now there are no more Blackhawks to watch in the newspapers. But I have had a chance to see or hear about a few of the guys as they play sports in college. Matt Miller - ice hockey at Monmouth University Cody Dziadyk - roller hockey at Rutgers Victor Scotto - roller hockey at Neumann Billy Giersbach - roller hockey at Neumann Dan Sangiorgio - roller hockey at Neumann Billy Smith - Baseball - Fairliegh Dickinson (1 year football) Frank Heslin - Lacrosse - Stockton Tom Heslin - Football - Montcalir starting in Fall of 2007 Paul Arena - Ice Hockey - Stockton Anyone else up to anything email me at FJHeslin@aol.com and I will update the site. With this group of originals gone I have a whole new group to watch, as I just completed a season coaching squirts in ice hockey. Eight years until they are out of high school. When will I ever learn!!!!!!!!!! GO BRICK MEMORIAL!!!!! Today is Monday, March 17th, 2003. I have not updated this web site in almost two years. I'd be willing to bet that nobody is even looking at it anymore. But this week is a special week for Blackhawks almuni. This Thursday there will be a handful of Blackhawks playing for the Public School State Championship in the Continental Airlines Arena as Brick Memorial takes on Randolf. I'm not sure if all these guys are on the Varsity roster, or even still on the team, but I'd like to wish them the best of luck. Congrats to: Good luck guys. This was unexpected, but BM really has come together. I always figured that Victor Scotto was going to be our first state champ, but he missed that by two games last year.......on the way to becoming the leading scorer in RBC school history. Since the Guestbook seems to be out of commission post your thoughts on Our Message Board And since we are on the subject, post your thoughts and experiences in the Breakout thread on the Message Board Congratulations to the Howell Blackhawks. The 12-U team and the 14-U "A" team finished second in the 2000 NHL Breakout World Championships. Congratulations 12-year-olds Mike Costa, Tommy Heslin, Justin Dronne, Steven Caslin, Chris Coakley, Billy Giersbach, Thomas Stahl and Eddie Micciulli. In the championship game, according to NHL Breakout you guys controlled much of the contest with steady defense and rock solid goaltending. True Blackhawk hockey. Congratulations 14-year-olds Victor Scotto, Jason Perez, PJ Cunningham, Corey Cramer, Cody Dziadyk, Joe Caballero, Dan Sangiorgio. And also congratulations to the 14-U "B" team for giving us a fun and exciting weekend of hockey....Frankie Heslin, Paul Arena, Kyle Dronne, RJ Reynolds, Nick Guggliocello, Matt Miller, Sean King, Derik Fontana, Alex Cerbone. Click here to see the story written by NHL Breakout. Look for these guys on ESPN prior to the All Star game. You are guaranteed to see plenty of Blackhawks, since we played in 2 out of 6 championship games. ![]() Our 14-U "A" team, 17-U team and 12-U "A" team all won the NY Rangers NHL Breakouts. The 8-U, 12-U "B" and 14-u "B" teams didn't do quite as well but lasted until the very end. It was a strong showing for our 6 Blackhawks teams in Rye. And what a weekend it was. Rain ended the Saturday games early. They were made up after the rain ended on Sunday. And then Sundays games were delayed thanks to more rain. But the teams managed to get the required games in. If was fun watching so many Blackhawks skating around in the rain together. And there were a lot of them. But as the next week went on we all learned a lesson about skating in the rain, as players bearings were rusting and locking up the wheels. The 12-u "A" team went undefeated and won all games big, until they hit the final game. Both teams were undfeated and the winner would be crowned champion. This game saw the 'Hawks hold on the win 1-0 in a real nailbiter. Thanks to a change in the rules from the past, and a rule that we have not been able to find, players that were on two rosters in two age groups were only allowed to play on one team. A couple 14-U players were on the 17-U team when they won the championship. After 6 games (this weekend) we were told those players could not play in the 14-U "A" championship game or they would have to forfeit one of the games. That left the 14-U "A" team with 4 skaters and a goalie against a strong John J team. The four played one of the best defensive games we have ever seen, as the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The overtime ended in a 0-0 tie. It came down to a shootout where we prevailed as the winner. It was hysterical sitting in the stands listening to the John J parents talk about how lucky the Blackhawks are. After all these years, we are still lucky. But it sure feels good to be this lucky. Okay in league play we were sad to see Jackson Roller Hockey close. We enjoyed our time there, but we saw it coming. Thanks to poor management in the past, they went from a high of 64 teams in 4 age divisions to 4 teams in the final season. We will miss it, since the weeknight games were the most convenient for us. All we have left is Allaire. But not all of us. The 18-U/17-U/16-U leagues merged and started on a night we can't enter a team. So for the time being, the 18-U to 16-U Blackhawks are no longer playing. But the rest of us again had some tremendous success. Our 8-U team completed it's 4th straight undefeated season as they won their 4th straight championship. The next season, that streak came to an end as yet another team designed to beat them, finally did what no one else was able to do for the past 18 months. Beat the 8-U Blackhawks in the championship game. The 10-U team made it back to the championship game for the 2nd time in three seasons. But they lost a real close game to the Sharks. This is a young team made up of many 8 and 9-year-olds and we expect to see the team stay competitive fro quite some time. Behind the stregth of these two teams, it looks like the Blackhawks can continue it's winning tradition for years to come. The 12-U team barreled through the division as they went undefeated to win the division championship. Unfortunately our best competition from previous seasons were no longer in the league. The Extreme broke up and the Roadrunners moved up to the 14-U division. Speaking of the 14-U division, we were in the "A" division with the Starzz. Thats it two "A" division teams. We went undefeated against the "B" team's in the regular season, but we could not get past the Starzz in the regular season. After 6 years of trying (Jets, Islanders, Bruins and Starzz), Greg Milos might have found a way to beat us. But once the playoffs began we continued our winning ways as we beat the Starzz 2-0 in a best 2 out of 3 playoff series. They were a tough team with a great goalie and some great fire power in players like Paul Arena. But our five 12-year-olds really came through big as they joined our two 14-year-olds and five other 13-year-olds, to hold of the much older and bigger Starzz. We also watch the Baracudas beat the Roadrunners win the "B" divsion championsip as the Craven brothers put on a championship game scoring show. Good Sports started a High School hockey league. We realized that Freehold High School is loaded with Blackhawks (Frankie, Stu, Jason, PJ and Brian), so we started a team. Thus the Freehold Patriots were born. October 25, 2000 The auction was a huge success. Thanks to so many donations from so many organizations we raised nearly $700 from this effort. Of course a big portion of this came from the wonderful Bruce Springsteen autographed Tracks CD donated by the Millers. That raised $177.50 for us, but I was really disappointed. It seems that the second highest bidder who stopped at $175 was my mother who was trying to buy it for me for Christmas. Anyway, between this, the garage sale, the donations, the Atlantic City bus trip, and the Pathmark / Shoprite gift cerificates, we were able to get new jerseys, pants, sweatshirts and team bags for the kids 14-U "B" team. We were also able to pay for practices, pucks and balls. Whew. Thanks for all the help. ![]() ![]() Earn 100 Mercata Dollars for you and 5 Mercata Dollars for the Blackhawks by signing up with Mercata.com. September 14, 2000 ![]() All proceeds from this bus trip will be used to help the 14-U "B" team Blackhawks get to the NHLB reakout Championships in Florida in January. September 5, 2000 We were able to register 7 teams in the NHL Breakout tournament in Rye. We will have one 10-U team, one 17-U team, two 12-U teams, two 14-U teams. September 5, 2000 L G Construction has supplied the 14-U team with the jerseys that we will be wearing in the NHL Breakout Championships. Many thanks from the Blackhawks. ![]() Good luck Vic, PJ, Jordan and ........ everyone else. You know what I mean. In 1981, a guy that I wrestled with in High School won a State Championship. The first time I saw him I congratulated him. In 1982 he finished 3rd in the state. While it was a great accomplishment, it was not as good as the previous years results. The first time I saw him this year I didn't know whether to congratulate him for the 3rd place finish, or offer him my condolences for not doing as well as he hoped. So I didn't say anything. I am faced with the same dilemma here. You guys (14-U's) did great by finishing 2nd. But I know that you are disapointed that you fell below your expectations. My solution. I'm sorry you didn't win, but I want to congratulate you for your 2nd place finish. Remember there were a lot of teams that would trade places with you. You did great. We are proud of you guys. From what I hear the 14-U's did a great job battling back in the championship game and you made it a real thriller. July 27, 2000 ![]() In our efforts to get the Blackhawks to the NHL Breakout Championships in Florida we are looking for help. August 8, 2000 ![]() August 3, 2000 When you read the Jackson-Howell Reporter section of August 3rd's Asbury Park Press you will see a picture of the 14-U Breakout team on the cover, followed by an article later in the section. Nice picture. I want to apologize to a few kids. A few names were misspelled (remember I don't spell check too often). I also left out Kyle Dronnes name in the 14-U review, and I included an incorrect name in the 14-U review. Sorry to all, especially Kyle who missed Sundays games but is a huge part of our team. And finally, I only had this one picture. I did not even take it. Someone else did and they mailed it to me. When the Asbury Park Press called me for a picture to go with the article, I had about two hours to get it to them, so I didn't even have time to track down other pictures. But they did want a picture of all the kids. I wish I was able to get all 5 teams pictures in the paper. Next time. I know many of you don't get this section of the paper. I will put it on the web site, and maybe figure out a way to set it up for you to download. I also picked up a few extra copies of the newspaper for you, so just e-mail me and tell me you want a copy of it and I'll send it to you. July 27, 2000 We found some great deals on airfare to get the kids to Florida in January. The round trip cost on Delta or Continental would be 169.50. July 27, 2000 Last month the 8-U allaire team completed the 2nd Three-Peat in Blackhawks history as they completed their third straight undefeated season as they won their third straight championsip. Even more exciting is the fact that these little dynamos have not lost a game since the spring 1999 championship game, which is a winning streak of 30 games. That is the longest streak without a loss in Blackhawks club history. The 12-U team held the record prior to that when they held a 26 game unbeaten streak TWICE. Check out the season review of the 8-U team. July 17, 2000 Spring of 2000 - the DEVILS. Boy am I enjoying the Continental Airlines Arena lately. June 21, 2000 ![]() Here is my usual dig at Ranger fans. I was recently at a Bruce Springsteen concert in MSG (home of the Rangers) and I was looking up into the rafters at the Rangers four Stanley Cup banners. And I realized that the Devils have won two, since the Rangers last Cup. But the highlight of the night came when the Boss, mentioned how his home state of New Jersey is home to the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils. Now that was fun to hear in the Garden. Thanks to three similar e-mails, that I recieved during the playoffs, I just could not help myself. I had to put this together. Check it out. April 12, 2000 Billy Giersbach will be playing in the Narch and AIRHS Nationals this summer. As a member of the Bad Apples, Billy is the first Blackhawks to reach this level. Congratulations and good luck Billy. Marc Moscowitz will be heading to Florida this summer to play in the AIRHS Nationals also. Congratulations and best of luck Marc. John Talamo will be heading to Florida this summer to play in the AIRHS Nationals also. Congratulations and best of luck John. The Talamo family will be real busy this summer as Phil will also be heading to Florida to play in the AIRHS Nationals. Congratulations and best of luck Phil. I'm proud to see that the Howell Blackhawks will be so well represented in the AIRHS Nationals. Congratulations Marc Moscowitz and John Talamo. Marc and Jihn are the first Blackhawks to be called a National Champion. We have had many runner-up's but This summer John and Marc were part of the Wave when they won the AIRHS National Championship. Bobby Dowe has made the Jackson Middle School Baseball team as a seventh grader. Keep up the good work Bobby. Congratulations to JJ Ford who missed the Jackson championship game to go to an awards dinner where he will be given awards for his outstanding accomplishments in various sports, including soccer and baseball. March 21, 2000 We have a few new faces joining the club this season, and a few old faces rejoining the the Allaire team as the 8-U's, 10-U's and 12-U's attempt to defend our Winter Y2K titles and the 14-U's try to make up that one goal difference to get back on top. The season starts for all teams the weekend of April 1-2. Good luck to all. 10-U Team Allaire March 21, 2000 10-U Team Allaire 12-U Team Allaire 14-U Team Allaire
