League Season Results

· Summer 1995. New Jersey Inline Hockey League, Lake Riviera Park, Brick NJ.
Eleven-year-old division. Third Place. There were eight teams in the division as the Blackhawks were born, with many players skating for the first time. Most of our players were 9-years-old and Tommy Heslin and Alex Cerbone being 7 and 8-years-old. The Blackhawks were led by the offensive skills of Captain Victor Scotto-di-Carlo. Since the games were played outside in the heat of the summer, the we used 8 goalies during the season, while relying on strong defense. The Blackhawks lost the semi-final game by a goal as Victor nearly tied it late in the game as he beat the goalie but missed the net. The Blackhawks first playoff game saw the Blackhawks shut down the cousin of NHLer Jim Dowd while winning the game 11 to 1. Frankie Heslin starred in goal to his mothers delight. Ryan Shaughnessy led the offense as he got his only career hat trick that day. Michael Cerbone and Donnie Bielak led a powerful defense to keep the shots against low. Alex and Tommy represented us in the 8-year-old All Star game while Victor, Donnie Bielak and Dominik Pensabene represented us in the 11-year-old All Star game.

· Winter 1996, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. Second Place.
The Blackhawks first season indoors saw us lose to the Indians in the championship game as the Indians scored the winning goal on a power play in the final minute of the game. The Indians were a great rivalry and one of the teams we always enjoyed playing against. Frankie Heslin and Alex Cerbone became Assistant Captains this season. Mike Calabria and Jimmy Durham were great additions to the team as they added an extra offensive threat and leadership to the team. Gary Grimes and Eric Kleinberg added a new dose of heart to an already ambitious team.

· Spring 1996, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. First Place.
The Blackhawks went undefeated this season as they outscored their opponents 67 to 7 while registering 4 shutouts. Mike Fasano starred in goal for the whole season and backup goalie Tommy Heslin both registered two shutouts each. Victor Scotto-di-Carlo, Mike Calabria and Alex Cerbone led the team in scoring as the Blackhawks defeated the Ducks in the championship game on newly appointed Assistant Captain, Billy Smiths game winning goal. Eric Kleinberg, Gary Grimes, Frankie Heslin, Ryan Shaugnhessy and newly added defenseman Jeff Angert led the Blackhawks stingy defense. Strong offensive efforts were added by Adam Houli and Joey Blood who both let the team at seasons end to test the waters of free agency.

· Fall 1996, Jackson Roller Magic. Fourteen-year-old division. First Place.
In our first attempt at an older team, we came back from 2 early season losses to real off 6 straight wins and finish the season at 7-2-1, including three straight shutouts by goalie Stu Jacobson. We won the league championship in a shootout as Todd Kuschner scored the winning goal. Captain Dan Santoro and Stu were selected as team MVP’s. Ten-year-old Frankie Heslin and 11-year-old Victor Scotto surprised the team with their ability to play with the "big guys" as they led the team in the all important plus-minus category. Playing on our third line, Victor led the "big guys" in goals, assists and points. Of all the championships we have won, this was the most gratifying. Jimmy Durham, Donnie Bielak and Michael Cerbone were our assistant captains. Brian "Billy" Madison led the team in Dan's absense while Dan recovered from a hurt wrist. We were nicknamed the "Smurfs" by other teams because of our size, what they didn't realize was the "Smurfs" were all heart, desire and ambition.

· Fall 1996, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. First Place.
Wearing our new Blackhawk home jerseys supplied by Walt Kleinberg and BOC Gas, the Blackhawks went undefeated. Facing some great competition, we outscored our opponents 35 to 7 while registering 5 shutouts including 12 straight periods without giving up a goal by goalie Stephen Iwanyk. The highlight of the season was winning the championship game against the Bruins 3 to 2. A "very" sick Victor Scotto led the team to victory while scoring the go ahead goal as Billy Smith scored what turned out to be another game winning goal. Since Victor had no voice Assistant Captain Frankie Heslin had to speak up for the first time and inspire the team. The team rallied around Victor to win the championship. Great efforts were put in by all this season but Jeff Angert, Mike Calabria and Eric Kleinberg rose to a new level. New addiditons to the team RJ Farkas, "Fast" Eddie Micciulli and Chris Dietsch added a new dimension in speed and offensive fire power to the team. The lowlights, were letting Victor play sick. Winning this championship got us selected as Hyper Wheels Team of the Month in the summer 1997 issue of USA INLINE HOCKEY MAGAZINE.

· Winter 1997, Jackson Roller Magic. Fourteen-year-old division. Fifth Place.
We lost three key players to age and two key players quit at the last minute. We started the season short players and picked up some strong defensive players, unfortunately we lost strong offensive players and had trouble scoring goals. We didn’t give up many goals, but we lost a lot of 2-1 games. Captain Todd Kuschner and Victor Scotto led the team in scoring. Assistant Captain Matt Wornowicz led the defense.

· Winter 1997, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. Second Place.
The Jaguars ended our undefeated streak at 25 games. And we lost to the Roadrunners which ended our championship streak at 2 seasons, by winning the championship game 2 to 1. But this was our fourth straight championship game. Strong efforts by all players. This might sound crazy but this was also the season when we seemed to stop having fun.

· Spring 1997, Jackson Roller Magic. Fourteen-year-old division. Fourth Place.
Victor Scotto-di-Carlo was named Captain and Matt Wornowicz remained the Assistant Captain. We still had trouble finding the net.

· Spring 1997, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. Third Place.
After losing our top scorer (Victor Scotto) and our goalie (Stephen Iwanyk) we were searching for a new identity. This was our only losing season. No championship game was played this season for the first and last time in our brief history in Jackson. Frankie Heslin was named Captain and Mike Calabria was named Assistant Captain, joining Alex Cerbone and Billy Smith. Cody Dziadyk, Tommy Russo and Steven Goldblatt were added to the roster and brought some fantastic skating ability with them.

· Spring 1997, Jackson Roller Magic. Seventeen-year-old division. Eighth Place.
We tried to start a really big guys team, but this was tough. At this age, these kids have other things on their minds. After putting the team together, our Captain, Dan Santoro was unable to join the team. We wound up having more players suspended for fighting than we can count. After one unsuccessful season this team folded.

· Fall 1997 - Winter 1998, Jackson Roller Magic. Fourteen-year-old division. Fourth Place.
The Blackhawks played a lot of close games but could not overcome the Ducks and the Flaming Fireballs, who each handed the Blackhawks 3 of their 9 losses leaving them to finish the season at 10-9-1. The first game with the Ducks was a memorable one. The Blackhawks, coming down from the high of NHL Breakout the Ducks scored a goal 5 seconds into the game to win a defensive battle 1 to nothing. Games with the Fireballs turned out to be yet another event in which we made some close friends. All Star representatives were Victor Scotto-di-Carlo, Frankie Heslin, Cody Dziadyk, Michael Lapp, Matt Wornowicz, Kevin Schweir, Ryan Dragity and Steven Iwanyk, who was selected game ones MVP.

· Fall 1997 - Winter 1998, Jackson Roller Magic. Eleven-year-old division. Second Place.
We entirely rebuilt the team bringing in 7 new skaters, a new goalie and two new coaches with only Frank Heslin remaining as an original Blackhawk coach. We outscored our opponents 123 to 41. Cody Dziadyk and Eric Kleinberg were named Assistant Captains. We made it to our fifth championship game but lost by our worst game ever. I don’t even wan’t to mention the score. We lost this game to the only team that beat us during this extended season. Newly aquired players Billy Geirsbach, Derrick Fontana and Matt Miller joined RJ Farkas, Tommy Heslin, Eddie Micuilli, Steven Goldblatt and Alex Cerbone re-ignited the Blackhawks offense. On defense Frankie Heslin, Cody Dziadyk and Eric Kleinberg continued to play awseome as they were joined by new defenseman PJ Cunningham and Nicky Fontana. All Star representatives were Alex Cerbone, Eddie Micciulli, Eric Kleinberg, Steven Goldblatt.

Spring 1998, JacksonRoller Magic fourteen-year-old division. Fourth Place.
I did not have a roster nor did I track stats this season so this review is real limited. Many new faces joined the team and some old faces rejoined the team. Billy Smith rejoined the Blackhawks. Frank Heslin resigned as a coach. At the end of the season, Stu Jacobson left the team to join the Snypers. WE ARE GOING TO MISS HAVING STU AROUND, but this was a neccesary move for him. Stu and Steven were among the best goalies in the league, but only one can play. Both wanted to play and this was the only way it would work. However, Stu did get between the pipes to carry us the the 14-year-old
Philadelphia NHL Breakout Championship.

Summer 1998, JacksonRoller Magic eleven-year-old division. In a season that we temporarily merged the Whalers and the Blackhawks (many reasons for this) we lost the championship game to the Storm.
