TEAM STATS

GAME RESULTS

Game 1
In our first game we defeated the Tornados 6 to 2. We only had 9 skater as 3 of them were involved with Ice Hockey clinics and we lost two players at the last minute. New Blackhawks Dennis Novello (2 goals) and RJ Reynolds (1 goal) were great additions offensively and defensively. Other scoring by Eddie Micciulli, Frankie Heslin and Billy Geirsbach. Steven Goldblatt had 2 assists. Matt Deering rejoined the team as goalie after a couple of seasons away from the team. Dennis was selected "Star of the Game".

Game 2

Adding Dan Cirminello, RJ Reynolds, Dennis Novello, Mike McKernon and a new goalie Matt Deering to the team was that little bit we seemed to need to turn things around. This game came down to the final seconds, including the need to pull to goalie as the Roadrunners defeated the Blackhawks 2 to 1. This was the first game we have used a power play line in 3 seasons as we had a man advantage early in the game. Stars of the game were Nicky Fontana and Frankie Heslin. Nicky played brilliantly as the "3rd defenseman/floating wing" in our version of the infamous "trap". Frankie scored the Blackhawks goal as he rose to my challenge of "Your the Captain, I'm putting you on offense this shift. These kids are looking for you to lead the team. Let's see you do something." It worked. Matt Deering stood tall as he send waves of confidence through the team when he faced Adam Houli on a breakaway and made a great save.  Great defensive game with contributions by all.

Game 3

Nobody said that playing two games in one night was easy, but since I was only coaching, it didn't seem hard to me. Backup goalie Alex Cerbone took the net and looked as brilliant as Matt. When the game started, we were already warmed up, and we had to make some line changes to give some kids a break. Great offense and defense as we screamed out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the first period. Even trying to hold the players back with orders to pass 3 times before every shot, could not stop them as we beat the Tornados 11 to 2. Steven (not Stephen) Goldblatt had a a Hat Trick as the other 8 goals were scored by 8 different players. How's that for a rounded offense. Goals were scored by Frankie Heslin, Tommy Heslin, Eddie Miccuilli, Eric Kleinberg, Billy Geirsbach, Matt Miller, Dennis Novello, and Dan Cirminello. Frankie, Eddie Steven added assists. Steven was selected as the Star of the Game for his performance.

Game 4

We showed up to play the Roadrunners who were scheduled to play us in the second game of their doubleheader. Sure, we would have caught them a little tired. But they are a tournament team like us and they are conditioned to play multiple games in one day. After losing to them the last game 2 to 1, we knew we had all the pieces in place to beat them. Unfortunately, we were unable to find that out. Much to our dismay, the Roadrunners QUIT that night and did not show up to play. Instead we faced the Tornados and beat them 6 to 4. Even though they snuck in 2 over age, not on the roster players (yes we did know about them) they still could not overcome the Blackhawks as we went on to claim back the Thursday night championship. This was Captain Frankie Heslin's last game for the team as he is now too old for the 11-year-old team. It sounds inappropriate since I am his father, but we will miss him on the team. It was also Co-Captain Eric Kleinbergs last game since he is moving to Pennsylvania this summer. We will all miss Eric.
