"Earning the Right," (see below) is the sequel.
NC-17. The title says it all! 68K
This story follows "The First Time," (see above) and delves into the way ancient Greeks really felt about "those" sort of relationships.
NC-17. Hercules and Iolaus find their relationship violates tradition, and this could be a problem. Co-written with MaryE. 80K
Herc's been irritable and Iolaus doesn't know why...when he finds out, they have to work out a few things...and then Ares shows up.
NC-17 WARNING: Non consensual rape scene and violence! This is not a story for the faint of heart but don't worry, it turns out all better in the end. 88K
*The Witch on Western Mountain
Iolaus didn't believe in witches or fairies but that wouldn't stop him from making the ulitmate sacrifice to save Hercules.
NC-17 When Arianna does hurt, she does it very intently, so be prepared. There is a nonconsenual scene but it is followed by a very, very consensual one. Iolaus gets hurt. Hercules does some serious comforting. 72K
My Soul. . .My Choice: Part One
*My Soul. . .My Choice: Part Two
Iolaus gets to come back. . .but only as a ghost and even then, he finds a way to risk his "life."
Part One; PG; Part Two: NC-17 Arianna, like many of us, was not happy with the way the "Dahok" arc played out in Season Five of Hercules: the Legendary Journeys, so she created this version. She says Iolaus is the one who nagged her to tell his perferred version and I believe her, especially since this is the adult version. A general audience version is available at The Iolausian Library but in part two of this version, Hercules gives Iolaus the welcome back from the dead Our Golden One really deserves. Part One: 304K Part Two: 252
There are also references to other adventures Arianna and Iolaus have shared with us. Those stories are all available at the Iolausian Library.
Remember, in "Highway to Hades," when Hercules gave his body up to the bridegroom for the night? In this intense story, we see the consequences Iolaus paid for that favor.
NC-17 Lots of hurt, some serious comforting. The non-slash version is available at the Iolausian Library but for those of you who want to see Hercules and Iolaus make up properly after Ares does his nasty deed, this is that story! Warning: graphic violence and heavy angst. Great sex, too! 200 K
Sometimes, Iolaus feels invisible when he's standing next to Hercules. But we know just how important Iolaus really is.
G-rated, although there is a hint of certain affections. And those darn leather pants cause problems. Hurt/comfort of more of the emotional than physical variety. 40K
Suppose you were the only daughter and your father wanted to marry you off to someone horrid and then this MAN came along. . .
The story before Amazon Women, told from Ania's point of view. Lucky girl. 260K
Iolaus is back from the Light and he wants Hercules to give him the welcome he deserves. Bliss never felt like this.
NC-17 We all know that Hercules and Iolaus wouldn't just shake hands after Iolaus came back from the Light. Here is Sandman's passionate take on how that return REALLY went. Poor Micheal. He was just out-blissed. 48K
Hercules is glad to have Iolaus back from the East but Hercules
knows that Iolaus has changed. Can he find out what made such
a difference in his friend?
G. A few nights by the fireside as Sandman explores a popular theme of fan fiction: What happened when Iolaus went East. Beautifully written and full of evocative descriptions.
"Atonement," below, is the sequel.
NC-17 After the events of the Hind Trilogy, Hercules and Iolaus try to find their way back to each other. 24K
Be sure to read "Reconcilation, " above, first. Sandman feels they work best read in that order.
NC-17 From the other point of view. 28K
Iolaus decides that Hercules needs helps on those Labors of his and sets out to find his friend, even if Iolaus really isn't feeling his best and the weather is a bit unpleasant. . .
Some hurt/comfort that demonstrates how close Iolaus and Hercules really are and how foolish both of them can be. G-rated. 40K
All things go to dust in the end, even the loving and beautiful Alcmene.
G Written as a memorial to the lovely Liddy Holloway, who passed away on Dec. 29, 2004. 36K
A missing scene from the Wedding of Alcmene. Just how did Iphicles react when Iolaus arrived?
PG. Nice little series details make this story a delightful addition to canon. 56K
Having an older and wiser friend is always a good thing, especially when a certain subject comes up.
R-rated. A challenge was issued, on a PG rated list, to have Iolaus explain the "facts of life" to someone. They didn't have to be the facts of sex and most of the responses fit the list. However, a few of us expanded on the challenge and wrote stories that dealt with sex and were most definitely not PG. This is one of those stories. 28K
Hera's archers tried to kill Hercules but Iolaus was there to provide help and his special Iolausian comfort.
Sandman was hesitant to post this story, since it covers similar territory to my "Whose Arrow," (see below) but I figure great minds think alike. Plus we're all working off the same limited number of episodes so there is bound to be some overlap of ideas. I still think is a wonderful story and the image of Iolaus at the end. . .Is it hot in here? 36K
*Why We Should Never Go Into Caves
There are monsters and who knows what in caves but Hercules convinces Iolaus a cave is the best place to take off wet leather trousers.
NC-17. This started its life as a g-rated challenge story but just seemed to need these extra details. So here they are. "A wet Iolaus is a cranky Iolaus" and one thing leads to another. 40K
Hercules isn't thrilled being at Anya's baby shower but Iolaus is glad to see him, especially when things go wrong.
This story deals with childbirth and may not be for the faint of heart but it is a tender, bittersweet and powerful tale. PG-13 for the medical details. 32 K
Iolaus hates being cold and wet and he remembers sympathsizing with someone else with that problem.
This story is an "ahhhh" story. Cute and sweet. G-rated. 16K
It's raining fish and Hercules is determined to marry his blushing bride. Which puts Iolaus in a bit of a pickle, since Herc thinks Iolaus is a woman.
This started out as a Golden Apple list challenge but this is the adult version. Not too graphic but Iolaus does react a bit more than he did in the original. R-rated. 48K
In the sequel to "Hold the Mushrooms," (see above), Iolaus and Hercules deal with the aftermath of Hercules' muchroom induced hallucinations.
NC-17. Sandman just couldn't leave our Golden One all frustrated and miserable, could he? Of course not! And Hercules needs to get a few things straight. 84K
It's Solistice night and Hercules and Iolaus are stuck in a haunted house during a blizzard. Doesn't exactly make for good times but our boys can still save the day.
G-rated. This story is being posted on January 1, 2005, and it's COLD and SNOWY outside. Shiver. I could use an Iolaus to keep me warm! 48K
Remember being a child with a crush on a cute guy? While that seems like a rather ordinary thing, this is no ordinary girl and no ordinary guy!
G-rated. In response to a Golden Apple Bard's List challenge. A character from an episode tells their side of the tale. 16K
Iolaus, being Iolaus, has to celebrate HIS birthday with a little hurt comfort and a resuce or two.
PG for a bit of hurt. Some characters we met briefly in the series make appearances, to add to the depth of the tale. 52K
Iolaus always choses Hercules over anyone else. Will the time come when he regrets that choice?
PG-13 for violence and angst. MAJOR angst. There is no happy ending in this one, folks, so read with tissues at hand. 72K
Hera. Iolaus. You do the math.
PG-13 for graphic torture and violence. Hurt/comfort but don't worry. Hercules will save the day. 80K
Iolaus, some children and a pretty schoolteacher. What could possibly go wrong?
PG for a bit of violence. Some hurt-comfort and a happy ending, almost. 112K
Just a brief glimpse of life with our heroes and a reminder how close to the edge they walk.
G-rated. Written for the All Iolaus Week on the Golden Apple Bards List to celebrate Michael Hurst's birthday. 12K
So what do the sluts of the Hercverse talk about "afterwards." We listen in on Iolaus and Iphicles.
R-rated but only because of what is discussed. An overview of the sexual habits of our friends and neighbors. 28K
Well, it's better than having Iolaus dead again but it is giving Hercules a headache and Jason can't keep them all straight.
There are some minor references to "Greek" relationships but nothing offensive. Some off-camera fooling around between Iolaus and a woman you'll probably find amusing but nothing graphic. PG. This is the epic that took me two years to finish because of the difficulty in keeping all those Iolausii straight. You'll understand if you read it. My beta readers, Melinda the Rebel and Owlharp, deserve much thanks. 276K
What Iolaus does before he goes to sleep and it isn't say his prayers.
R-rated and that only because it makes reference to Iolaus having sex with Hercules. We don't actually see anything but this is my first Herc/Iolaus slash story and I was just dipping my toes in. 28K
What does Iolaus do that makes it easier for Hercules to sleep? Since it isn't one of "those" stories, it's not what you think.
G-rate. Pure smarm. Short and sweet. An old story I was saving and forgot about. 8K
Even the God of War sometimes has to do as his mother asks. But hey, good worship is worth it.
R-rated only because of passing references to some naughty activity on the part of Cupid and a few others. Nothing graphic but the word "cock" does appear. 60K
*Best Laid Plans of Gods and Men
Even gods have bad days and this one is all for Ares. My first attempt at writing Ares in the first person.
R-rated only because of a passing reference to an all-male orgy. Nothing graphic. 40K
Golden Apple Challenge: Hercules and Iolaus genuinely disagree about an issue. This is my version of what Iolaus does when he isn't with Hercules.
G rated. 28K
*Beware Egyptians Bearing Gifts
A study in comparative cultures or why Ares really hates peace treaties. Father/son fun with Ares and Cupid
R-rated just because of the nature of the gift. Pure silliness. 12K
Iolaus was born mortal. Hercules was the son of a god. Someday, that was going to make a big difference in their lives and Iolaus was going to have some trouble dealing with it.
This story started with the opening section. I had NO idea where it was going but it was interesting enough, my muse decided to keep it in mind. Several months afterwards, the rest of the story showed up. It was a bit of a struggle and Owlharp was gracious enough to give it a once over to fix a few problems and now. . .here it is. 100K This is the ADULT version and has bit of sex towards the end that didn't appear in the original version.
Ares is mortal, Iolaus is old but they are going to fix what went wrong the day Xena had her daughter if it kills them.
Angst, violence, death, but a happy ending. Probably PG-13 for intensity more than anything else. This story is very popular with the Ares/Xena "shipper" crowd, although I never intended it to be seen that way. Oh, well. People are free to interpret my stories anyway they like. 92K.
Response to a Golden Apple challenge: The opening line was the challenge. The story is about Iolaus making a life-changing decision.
No warnings. G-rated. 32K
Chaos begat Ge who begat Uranus who begat Cronos who begat Zeus who begat Ares and Hercules and is really beginning to regret it.
PG-13 for one bad word and a few odd references to unusual relationships and clothing but nothing really shocking unless you have a naughty imagination. Silliness born of having lots of ideas for "alternate" universes. Plus I can't hate Ares as much as good Herc fan should. He's too cute! 28K
*Companion Pieces: Comfort and Joy
*Companion Pieces: What's Mine is Yours
In the first story, "Comfort and Joy," Hercules turns to his older brother, Iphicles, for help in dealing with the tragedy of Iolaus' death. In the second story, "What's Mine is Yours," Ares gives his version of comfort to Hercules and we learn surprising things about everyone.
I started to write three, interlinked stories, dealing with the time when Iolaus was "in the Light." I wrote the Iphicles and Ares stories, then got into trouble with the Hercules one. It just didn't work. The death of Kevin Smith, which occurred while I was struggling with the tale, didn't help. So I have posted the two finished stories and left the third for another time. NC-17 rated. Angst, incest, a bit of violence.
*The "Counting" Series: Setting the Record
*The "Counting" Series: The Mathematics Lesson
Boys will be boys and you can just imagine what Iolaus is up to when he hears that males reach their sexual peak at 19.
They should be read in the order posted to make the most sense of what are two very short and rather silly stories. R-rated. Record is 20K and Mathematics is 24K.
A 5P story and the only time I ever wrote Autolycus. Autolycus is stealing the crown jewels of Cornith and gets caught by the king.
NC-17 rated. I'm not a big "Autolycus as a sex object" fan but I'm told I did a good job here. I was proud of the creative use I made of my assigned "Ps," which are listed with the story. 40K
The alternate Iolaus thinks back about his relationship with the Sovereign.
No warnings. PG barely, if that. 28K
Sometimes, Ares is his own worst enemy. Inspired by mythology.
Angst. Violence but more intense emotion than bloodshed. PG ish for that. 28K
Iolaus is sick with a high fever and Hercules is at his bedside.
G-rated. Inspired by the plus 100 degree (over 40 for you metric folks) temperatures this summer.
What does the God of War give his daughter-in-law as a wedding present?
G-Rated. Part of my on-going father/son interest with Cupid and Ares. Plus I like the story of Psyche. 20K
Horrible serpents can do horrible things to a man's pants.
G-rated. Hercules and Iolaus encounter an unusual serpent and guess which god is responsible. 32K
Hercules finds that immortality is the greatest curse imaginable.
Angst. Death. But a happy ending. One of my very first stories. G-rated. 44K
A conversation on the subject of fan writers beating up on Iolaus led my husband to suggest this very gross and disgusting story. It's his fault.
Death and general disgustingness. G-rated, really, but a warped sense of humor required. 32K
For our favorite heroes, even something as ordinary as hiccups can be dangerous.
G-rated. A bit of silliness, a bit of smarm, a bit of humor.16K
After dinner conversation, with Iolaus, Hercules and Ares.
G-rated. I gave myself a challenge and wrote two stories with the same opening sentence. "Sweet Dreams" (see below) is the companion, naughty story. 16K
An alternate take on how far Iolaus would go to let Hercules be happy with the woman he loved.
NC-17. Ares/Iolaus and Iolaus/Hercules. Not real graphic but you have no doubt what the lads are up to. Angst. Major angst. But another one of my happy endings so have no fear. I think this is my longest Hercverse story and definitely one of my best. 232K
A Golden Apple Missing Scenes Challenge: Fill in what happened to Iolaus during the time in Highway to Hades that Hercules had loaned his body to Timeron.
Iolaus has a few naughty thoughts but, hey! we're talking Iolaus here. Nothing graphic. PG-rated at most. 48K
Written a couple of years after "Funeral Pyre," (see above) this story attempts to work in the "real" myths surrounding Hercules and Iolaus into the television version.
G rated. Opening lecture explaining the myths for those of you who haven't done lots of research into the "real" Iolaus. Ares and Hebe make guest appearances. 44K
Hercules was supposed to be the King of Mycenae but Hera delayed his birth and so another was born to be king. But what IF Hera had failed and Hercules became a king early in life? What place would there be for a common born companion?
PG-13. My speculation on a Hercules who not only didn't have Iolaus but had another sorrow in his life. This story made some people cry so be prepared. Thanks to Arianna for her suggestions. She was right. . . . 40K
A Golden Apple Challenge for November, 2002. Iolaus teaches someone the "facts of life." How the phrase "facts of life," is interpreted it up to the author. These are the non-reproductive facts in my version.
G-rated. I submitted the challenge so had to answer it. The "adult" scenario, which bears NO resemblance to this story, may appear someday. 20K
Of all the Olympians, only Ares is shown in myth to be a good father and a good father mourns when his child dies.
R-rated for angst and incest. A touch of Ares/Cupid in the middle of the misery. I delve into myth again for my inspiration and my fascination with the conflict between the Greek dislike of Ares and their fondness for Zeus and Apollo, although Ares was the only god ever shown as being a good parent and Zeus and Apollo definitely weren't. I could write a paper on the subject but we'll make do with this story. Some people have told me this is my best story. 56K
In classical myth, the four children of Aphrodite and Ares were Eros, Deimus, Phobus and Harmonia. I try to imagine what Ares must have been like as a parent.
PG-13 because there are a few references to what Cupid is the god of and how Ares and Aphrodite made those four children but nothing graphic. I'd let my mother read it. 56K
Iolaus has trouble sleeping and we all know what that means. A Hercfic list masturbation challenge story.
Let's face it. Iolaus has a dirty mind. A bit of Ares/Herc. NC-17 rated and light-hearted. I do like to get into Iolaus' head. It's a fun place. 32K
Ares always knew his nephew was odd but where does Strife get these ideas?
R-rated for references to male pregnancy but no one is actually in the family way. I got a sentence in a KSA2 list challenge that didn't fit with what I usually write. This story was the result. I think I may be getting a handle on writing Strife, the little pervert. Special credit goes to Taz, my beta reader extraordinaire. 12K
Perception is Nine-Tenths the Law
One of my very first posted Hercverse stories, right up there with Funeral Pyre (see above), Someone's In the Kitchen (see below) and Play it Again, Herc (see below). Those were the first four I ever wrote for the Hercverse, although I had been playing in fan fiction for more than thirty years.
Iolaus knew it was going to be a bad day when he woke up with a world-class hangover and found himself to be Ares best friend. Appearances by a number of Hercules and Xena characters.
PG. A reference to off-camera goings on and some violence but nothing major. I liked the plot of this one a lot, and the character of Iolaus the Blood Drinker. Started a sequel but it never went anywhere. 108K
Iolaus meets an unusual stranger and gets insight into what the world really thinks of Hercules and Iolaus.
R-rated more for talk than action. Original Character is a major player and there is a long backstory here but none of that is relevant to the tale at hand. Ares makes an appearance and Apollo pops in briefly. I like it and had fun writing it but I'm not sure how many other people will enjoy it. I know it has a few fans. 148K
How would it feel to be an accountant who was really the reincarnation of a Greek hero? Ian finds it very confusing.
NC-17 and (gasp!) heterosexual. The only Iolaus/Gabrielle I have ever written. Another very early story but, according to a lot of folks, one of my best. Award-winning, even. I became very fond of the Ian the accountant. Angst but hopeful and, I think, actually kind of powerful. 228K
You have heard about those conventions, haven't you? Weird things happen all 'round.
Ages ago, on the old KSA list, we chatted about a god of war convention. This turned up in my teeny little brain recently. Not much of a story. Barely R-rated. 16K
Wouldn't it be nice if you could turn back time and fix things? Or has that been done before? Hercules is hard-pressed to remember.
PG for a description of Iolaus after he's been dead a while but it all turns all right in the end. 72K
An old KSA list challenge. Write a story to a title. Epicasta was just calmly weeding the eggplants when someone unexpectedly dropped in.
NC-17. Heterosexual. Original female character written specifically to NOT be a "Mary Sue." I think it's rather fun and even folks who don't like OFC or het have told me they liked this. 64K
One of my personal favorites, although I have never had anyone else comment on it. Again, falling back on classical mythology. Ares and the brass jar story.
PG-13 rated for angst and intensity, and the queen mother of swear words does appear as a verb, towards the end. If you don't know the story of Ares and the brass jar, it probably won't make sense. 48K
Sharper than a Serpent's Quill
Quill-throwing monsters do not a good day make for Iolaus and Hercules.
G rated. Minor musings. Just liked the image of Iolaus with his pants around his ankles. 24K
Someone's in the Kitchen with Hercules
A very early story. Written in response to "For Those of You Just Tuning In." Sort of. Looking back, I knew very little about the folks involved in real life and made some erroneous assumptions. I like Iolaus in the red sneakers, though.
G rated. Not the greatest but has a funny line or two. 36K
Just something that came to me during a slow day at the office. I work alone and was having this dialogue, sort of out loud, Iolaus talking to someone holding him captive. This was the result.
G rated. Humor. It would have made a great scene in the series. Heheheh. 12K
*Sometimes, It's Meant to Rain
The stuff about Demeter and the Trojan War is from mythology. This is another dull day at the office story. And the references to Iolaus will either strike you as extra spice or annoyance, depending on your taste but it is primarily an Iphicles/Ares story.
R rated. The King of Corinth has signed a major peace treaty and now he has to face the God of War. 20K
Just some innocent silliness. Grecian river deities were mostly male but since these stories take place in a world with a blue-eyed Hercules, I figure I can take some liberties.
PG rated for some minor off-screen activity and a few references but nothing to worry about. Iolaus is a adorable, you know, and who can blame a goddess after she's seen him taking a bath. 56K
Just a bit of silliness involving Iolaus and a few others. I'd hate to name names so you have read it to find out.
R rated. Not really grahic but conjures up some images. . .I gave myself a challenge to write two stories with the same opening sentence. The G-rated story is "Hiding Camels." (see above) 28K
Time passes and where are our old friends now? Herc's a god, Iolaus is old and Ares is still a troublemaker.
G-rated. Humor. Just sort of a "behind the scenes" sort of story about life thirty or forty years after we last saw Iolaus. 24K
Written, with tears in my eyes, the day after I learned that Kevin Smith had passed away, February 16, 2002. 12K
Now this is a minor bit of musing. And no, it's not about what you think it's about.
Barely R-rated and strictly humor. No story really, but I think it's funny. Came about when everyone on the list said they were going to gone for the holidays. 8K
*The Difference Between Me and Thee
The Jester Iolaus is alone and the God of War shows up. They both learn a little something.
R-rated but only for implication. I wasn't sure about this story but there are some folks who just love it, especially JIolaus fans. There's a long story involved but suffice it to say, it was a learning experience for me to write it. It was a three word challenge from the old KSA list. 52K
Anniversaries, when the person you celebrated them with is dead, can be very sad. Hercules tries to cheer up Iolaus and show his friend that he is loved.
NC-17. Iolaus/Hercules. Sort of a stream of conciousness story on my part but it has some loyal fans. Sad but happy at the same time. 76K
In classical mythology, Ares was the first creature, mortal or god, to be tried for murder when he killed the son of Poseidon who raped Ares' daughter. This is my story about that trial, told from the point of view of Ares' eldest son.
R-rated but only because of some passing references. I almost posted this to the general menu but the incest implication does upset some readers. This is, obviously, part of my whole "Ares as a father" obsession. Angst and a disturbing rape scene not meant to be erotic. 80K
Iolaus encounters a father and son (guess who?) and has the sort of day that either dreams or nightmares are made of.
NC-17. The sex does get fairly specific. Iolaus/Ares. One of my favorites and popular with several readers but, I'll warn you, Iolaus has a dirty mind and a dirty mouth. Humor, a touch of angst, and the last of the stories about Ares and his relationship with Cupid that I have actually finished. There are a couple of bits I really love in this story and although there isn't much sex (as you have found out by now, I write better talking than fucking), I count this as one of my personal favorites. I like most of the guys but I do love Iolaus. 108K
What Ares wants, only Hercules can give, but can Hercules do what Ares needs?
NC-17. KSAres list sex raffle challenge. Bondage and some other nasty things I don't usually do but folks who like whips and chains thought I did a decent job. Should I take that as a compliment or should I be worried? 20K
After the events in "Mother of All Monsters," Hercules reflects on his relationship with Iolaus
NC-17. None of my stuff seems all THAT graphic compared to some things I've read but it does involve details of what Hercules and Iolaus are doing and it isn't discussing philosophy. 28K
