![]() ![]() Q211: (A) Hey, me again. I was playing other people's worlds, and I saw that their NPCs were facing a certain way. How could I make mine do that? (B) When you said that we would be able to customize critters in future updates, would we also be able to customize the player, and will we be able to have random battles? If so, I know a great website that you could get that stuff from. It's another RPG Maker. The website is Hamster Republic.com. Then go to the ohrrpgce section and ask James Paige if you could use them in Scenario. I'm sure he'd help you out. He's a great guy! Thanks! ![]() (C) How come when I play other peoples' games, their sprites that they downloaded from the add-ons section come up almost completely invisible? Will mine do that? (C:) Hey thanks for all your help. I spend hours playing Scenario. It's great. And it's easy to use! I thought RPG Maker 2000 was cool, but man! Thanks for all of your help!!!! |
![]() ![]() A211: Greets Sephiroth: (A) This is actually pretty easy to do ! When you are on top of the Sprite that you want to initially face a different direction, hit ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Make sure that you have at least one blank line on your first page, and put anywhere on that blank line, or anywhere in-between other Sprite Commands on that same line. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now you know that if you have ![]() ![]() What the ![]() If you want your Sprite to face a different direction, then put the ![]() This is a powerful command and is checked during map-drawing so it is "activated" before the Sprite is even touched. Look for more special commands like this such as ![]() ![]() ![]() (B) Custom critters are defined in the "Boss" section of the Sprite Messenger. Click ![]() As for customizing the player and/or random battles, you will have to wait for Venture to see how this is done. . . . Regarding Hamster Republic, it's a good RPGMaker, but also one of the reasons I wrote ![]() HRRPG is a vary-tile system. That is, the player does not move on a tight grid but can slide around most anywhere which makes it difficult to place items without a mouse. Combat is side-view, and there are a large number of images that need to be doodled for any RPG in it, including combat sprites. The system, although not entirely mouse-driven requires the mouse enough that I find it difficult to do exact definitions for both imagery and world development. HRRPG uses an extensive amount of numbers for balances, required by the Worldbuilder. It is a good system but a fair bit more complex then my own engine. I am not competing against it, but wrote ![]() Color is another issue. You have to pre-define your palettes for each sprite type, which, although is a common practice in DOS 320x200x8 screens, you have no such limitations in true Windows programs 640x480x16/24/32. I am downloading a copy though, to see if it is still in DOS or has updated to Windows. (C) Hi Sephiroth.. This is getting to be a nasty little thing I wonder if I should have done at all. I am initially making the player sprite invisible so if someone was doing a logo or storyline minus the player, then it would start them without. To make the player visible, use ![]() ![]() ![]() Because this is causing some confusion for others, I think I am going to return to the player being initially visible when you start a new game. Look to patched version 0.094e4 that will run all prior world files correctly by leaving the player visible. You can get that by clicking ![]() If I missed the mark and you are referring to clipping someone else's map, then no images are encoded inside a .CLP file by default and .CLP files only contain the contents of the map that was copied. They do not contain map music or add-ons of any kind, and .CLP files respectively are used primarily for one's own map creations which would share the same add-on files. Further I just checked saving the new black Knight picture as a .BMP direct into the \REALM\ directory as SPR00.BMP. It works just fine, was imported correcctly and did not appear invisible. Hit ![]() ![]() ![]() (C:) Hey, glad to help out ! I really am very pleased at the fine worlds being made and I want to do all I can to assist in their development ! I hope Venture or ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() (Persona #44 is in use, shifting you to the next higher one) Q212: sorry to bug ya, (i hate buggin') but what i mean by flat is the edges dont connect. if youve played Zelda Oot or the oracle games you know what i mean. oh yeah, can you transfere a map from one to another ie make the map on 0 on 15 without piece by peice restoration? |
![]() ![]() A212: Greets Zijj: Transfer a map.. Okay, that's not too difficult. If you want to copy an entire map into the clipboard for -say- posting later in either the same world or a different world, in the Map Editor put your cursor on the top-left-hand corner of the map. Turn OFF Bounded View with ![]() You should have this displayed in your info window: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() From there hold down the ![]() ![]() What you have done is selected the entire map since wrapping around jumps to ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Press ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To paste it to a different map, use your square bracket keys of "[" and "]" located just to the right of the ![]() ![]() When you are on the map you want, once again put the cursor in the top-left-hand corner of the screen ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Paste Block query will appear, and then choose to paste from your default or a saved clipboard file. From here press ![]() If you have any problems with the pasting of a map in ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() (C:) Hi I've tried a WHOLE LOT of game and RPG makers, and I have to say yours is the best I've seen ever. I havent downloaded it yet because I'm not on my computer on someone elses... blah blah blah. But you have my regards for the best RPG maker I have seen ever. Q213: Also, can Scenario make .exe files out of the games? |
![]() ![]() A213: Greets Alpha One: (C:) Well Thank You ! ![]() I hope this newest version doesn't give anyone trouble as it definitely does run a good 3x faster over here. That plus you can now do sound effects in the background so you can do a proper earthquake with the screen shaking correctly in sync with the sound. I've always liked the classic cliche of the bad-guy's castle that suddenly decides right then to crumble around the player when they win. ![]() To answer your question, the compiler to ![]() (I actually finished before October - it's available now!) Click ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() (C:) Heya, Topaz! It's been a long time since I've been around. I was one of the first people to come and try out Scenario, back when you posted about it on the Rm2K message boards. I really enjoyed Scenario, but I wound up with out a computer for a while, and, of course, I was no longer on the net. When I finally got my new PC, I was happy to see that Scenario was and is still in development. Unfortunately, my new PC runs Windows XP, and thus I couldn't use Scenario! Good luck on Venture! -- QuestMaster |
![]() ![]() (C:) Greets Quest Master: I'm sorry to hear that it won't run. I'm not even using DOS anymore but I think GFA has some hooks in it that just won't work on the new modern windows. If you'll monitor closely the work I do towards ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() (C:) The moogle returns! Hey, Topaz!!!!!!! I will download this new, shiny, and spiffy new scenario once I get home (I am still at work) and if it doesn't crash, is as fast as you say, and an asteroid doesn't smack into my apartment, then you can just bet there will be a new WrenPheonix game in your hand in a couple of months. I plan to do all sorts of cool stuff, which I have talked to you about before, and with another program I have, I can create some interesting alpha objects that could be used to make maps completely different then the tiles i have loaded for added variety! I am kinda happy you have done so much hard work on this excellent builder, and again would like to thank you for all that hard work. I also have found a way to get a free website to host a forum/billboard type of thing. With your permission, I will set it up and get the URL to you soon. I am sure we could get a good community together so we could discuss the almost limitless possiblities of Scenario, as well as await your new venture pr! oject. Talk to you later buddy, I gotta jet. David/Topaz, here is the link to the forum. I hope you like it. Now that Scenario is mostly finished, we can all concentrate on making cool games! http://pub10.ezboard.com/bscenarioforum I think I can set up the 'emoticons' (supposed to be different types of smiles... uhm, you use them alot) to instead be the different types of graphics you use to explain sprites and switches. I would just need a list of 23 different images as well as the shortcut abbreviations that would like to type in to have it show up. (such as litbulb could be [lit] or something) This way you could explain your questions with some little images like you do here. The images just need to be hosted on this site so I can link to them, and then you could just direct me to the location they are at as well as a list of your prefered keys/code. |
![]() ![]() (C:) Hey Wren Pheonix, author of Logan's Quest v4.3 ! Where ya been and what ya been up to ?? I Hope you plan on getting your world compiled in the future so I can see your latest work ! ![]() The problem with some message forums is they don't allow neat pics and stuff easily in them. What I'm doing is a lot of work by clipping from my Email text to notepad and then pasting from there to Frontpage Express. But it does work and looks pretty sharp after I add the appropriate form boxes and get it all typed in. Pop-up windows, especially from Gator are no longer a problem with the pop-up-stopper link on my frontpage, so using public message base forums is certainly something to consider. Video rentals were $1 today, which is about all I can afford so I picked up Peter Pan, Return To Neverland, recorded it for RealMovie and the credit music was - interesting .. So I copied it separate. You can download it by clicking ![]() It's pretty quiet so you may wanna crank up your volume a bit. Called Appropriately, "Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust." It really makes you think about your innocence of youth, and the sins we commit by being mature in this world. Both of these today are scorned and both still are constantly being sought after by others. Regarding the Forum, to be completely fair, I will do what I can to help you. Hey ! I'm looking around the Forum now. Looks pretty good ! I'll add this to my bookmarks. If others post questions in here, I will do what I can to answer them. I see you are keeping a running log of building your new world.. I appreciate this - as from seeing the difficulties and problems you are facing, to have these removed in new ![]() In reading a bit, I see an Image Clipper is definitely needed so it will be for the new version. I am also still working on the .MDX Jukebox which should help you and others organize all of your music. Take a break too sometime, Wren. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() Q214: I just wanted to know something about Webpage servers for the site I am building. Your site is big, so is it the Free Service or the payed one? I put my site on angelfire for now (temp) but I couldn't open a new account because...well...long story :S. I was planning to move it to Fortune City so I could fit more into my other angelfire account. I can't wait until scenario X comes out and I'm really looking foward to it. http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/maul/home.htm I don't know if the pictures are correct yet (I accidently saved the pictures as others in the same account, DUH!:S) but I'm working on the download games page now. THanks for the advice Topaz, and I'm looking forward to Scenario X! ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() A214: Greets (Falcon)? (I now know this person was Shadow) 09-15-2002 Always try to remember to enter in your Alias and Persona when posting a new Q & A entry .. FortuneCity is a free website provider. I am here instead of at Geocities since they wrote me months ago insisting I pay to continue to FTP to my site ! If there is one thing I am very much against it is making money, and others making money on something that was free at one point but they got greedy and now charge for it, or lock it up in some way. AceFTP is a good example. This is one outstanding FTP program, but make sure you get version 1.24a cause they go really idioitic in later releases asking for money when all the shareware/crippleware they put in it makes it crash, run much slower, and they removed lots of the keyboard shortcuts. Version 1.24a of AceFTP is the very best FTP program I have used, so it's unfortunate when a company or individual does this. It's happening all the time on the internet.. I have - bookmarks of sites from a month or so ago that were all once ![]() I may in time make a Wishlist on Amazon.com (if I could ever figure out how it works) for neat little knick-knacks like an ONI Comic Book for myself (I saw it listed one time for $1), or something Hello Kitty related for my girlfriend ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I tried out your website, (Falcon?). While I do appreciate your interest and enthusiasm in my project, your links that state information on ![]() ![]() As for ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() Q215: Hrm Yeah. It's My First time using Scenario and I think that It Rocks But I'm having some problems with the addons! When I put em in the Realm Directory They Disapear! I've tried to look in the tiles and stuff but Theres still The same old tiles :(! Please help me out ![]() Thank you Very much. Have a Nice day and Long life to Scenario! ![]() |
![]() ![]() A215: Greets Shademan: I just tried out Add-Ons for all aspects of current ![]() I refer you to look on how to make use of them and by having a ready selection available by clicking ![]() Briefly, to do an Add-On for a Tile you would right-click on one of the tiles, change the Type of the image from .GIF to .BMP. From there, rename it to any name from "TILE00" to "TILE79" It is very important that you do not type out the extension of ".BMP" added on to the renaming of the file. And, when you save it, you must be inside the \REALM\ directory which is exactly located where you are executing the main runtime of ![]() ![]() ![]() I could also use this to store binary files encoded inside a picture to be retrieved later by viewing any type of picture on any webpage. This could also hold useful information like default filename, critter stats, and/or accompanying Sprite Messenger Message, all done by reading binary pixels read back. (Look for a later demo that gives the name of each critter you click on !) I may change the actual picture data itself to include these tiny pixels so they are unusable by saving them yourself as they will have binary mess around them but are usable with a separate ![]() This encoding technique is an original idea of mine I have not seen anywhere else on any website so if you want to use it for yourself, please ask me first. I do now have it copyright protected in my name and plan to make use of it later. ![]() |
![]() ![]() (C:) Hey, Topaz and Falcon!! If you could get all of the icons that could be used to explain sprite message commands to Falcon, he could host them on a page not accessed by the public. I could then use these hosted images in the forum I am building, and then he could simply link his site to my forum! I notice he has a link ready for such a forum, but doesn't have one. The next thing I need to do is get the answers to how to set up an example of each of the commands in Scenario so I could put up a FAQ section. This might eliminate many questions! (Yep, I see a FAQ is in order .. more work .. SIGH .. ) ![]() Q216: (A) I have a question about my title sequence. I would like text to scroll over the title picture, however, the picture goes away and I am left with the text scrolling over the player and map. How would I set up the sprite message to display the text in this way? Q) Is the little star icon (looks like the rest of the place holders on the sprite command window) that says varible a working command? If so, how does one set up these varibles? Q) I noticed you are still getting questions on how to import things into Scenario, even though this is anwered in both the addon section and the q&a section. Maybe you could put together some sort of FAQ section (frequently asked questions) where you could put such things as importing graphics and music, to using alpha objects, and how to save projects and how to send them to you. (B) I don't fully understand how the link command works. Do i just add that command to a sprite, and when the player activates it, the sprite will the link to the player? Such as: page one: Hi bob! I will help you.. for a price! Page two: [lock] [Choice] hire, hire, don't,no page three: [terminate] page four: [lable] hire [link] [lock] [terminate] page five: [lable] no FINE! I hope you like being alone [terminate] Or do i need the magic wand? The Magic Wand ![]() ![]() (C) do the random percentage inquiries still work? (D) can you give me some information on how scenarioX will handle combat, combat skills/spells, and party combat? Thanks for your hard work. I will look for those newsgroups on my two days off. |
![]() ![]() A216: Hi Wren: A Frequently Asked Question area is needed I see, and when I slow-down from working on ![]() ![]() (A) To scroll the picture over text I refer you to look inside the Answers World at location: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have placed an elaborate answer here. Sorry, almost missed the other question. (A2) Variable Pointer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (B) This question is answered ![]() (C) Last I checked, it should still be in working order. Usually when I write something small like that, I don't fiddle with it later. That's a blessing for you Worldbuilders I know. ![]() (D) ![]() ![]() Each Item built in ![]() Legend Of The Ghost Lion for the Nintendo 8-bit game machine, and Great Greed for the B&W Gameboy. The latter being the one I will especially be following with the exception there will still be up to 3 critters attacking at a time instead of one as Great Greed has theirs. I wish you luck about finding me some alt.binaries.pictures.anime newsgroups that I can access because there will be no Storyboards for anyone this month, failing that .. ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() Q217: Hello everybody, after browsing the web I can finally say that this is the best and most beautiful RPG Maker out there, but still I think there isn't a battle system with side view or action type. BTW, how do you change the properties of the battle choices given? eg steal, use special technique etc....... ? |
![]() ![]() A217: Greets Randomshinichi: Regarding ![]() ![]() To answer your question, combat was never a strong concern when I originally wrote ![]() You can have up to 3 attackers pounce on the player at one time, and the player is limited to attacking with current weapon, using a Runestone in battle (and they can be stacked like Combos in fighter games), the ability to heal your hitpoints with a potion, the automatic ability of recovering your life fully if you are defeated and have a Miracle Runestone in your possession, and running away, provided it is not a custom critter or boss. You will have to wait for ![]() This opens up interesting possibilities of having "items" attack on their own (Companions) and having 8 or 9 all following you around would be entirely available should the Worldbuilder create their game to do so. I was originally just going to have one attacker pounce on the player at a time, but have decided to go ahead and use the 3 as normal, with the exception that all critters will have the ability of using custom attacks, defenses, or I may just make "items" out of them too, ones that bounce around outside your inventory and attack you and your existing inventory (companions). There will also be the use of Warp where, like in most RPGs, you use the Warp Item and you are given a number of name choices to warp back to cities that you have visited. In this, you make 4 Warp Signatures just outside the city on all 4 corners, where when the player touches one, that city name and location is recorded into the player's "Warp Roster" as a traveling point. Using the "Exit" item or spell to escape from dungeons will operate very similarly. It will be important to recognize that most "effects" in ![]() These are all interesting and complex ideas, but I have another 50 years left of programming so this should be enough time to finish it in. ![]() ![]() |
![]() Q219: still working on the RPG... stumbled on a little problem: the Boss (I have just one so far) doesn't disappear after being defeted. the sprite just sits there. And it doesn't jump at the player and attack either... |
![]() ![]() A219: Greets Eilu The Great: This is a good question. First off, you should know that the definition of a Boss has absolutely nothing to do with the definition of critters in combat. If you want that Boss to appear to "pounce" you could use: ![]() ![]() ![]() A Boss is defined as a special case where one page of your Sprite Message gets dedicated to entering battle with a custom critter as defined by you. There is no pouncing and it is up to you to make the Sprite, not Critter but Sprite vanish. You can do this by putting a switch on this Sprite and having it activate on the page right after Boss Combat which shows the player battled yon beastie and won. Something like "gotcha" or anything else that would be easy for you to remember, which, you could check with other Sprites and have their conversation and reactions change accordingly. (After all, you just beat a major baddie, so they're grateful, open up new gates, give you certain items for flag checking later, and so on !) ![]() Remember that this is not a true Critter so the Boss is not revived or brought back unless you tell ![]() ![]() |
![]() Q220: persona : (can't see the alias pic) (if the persona pics does not display, but is a red X, that means my webpage is really busy !) Hit ![]() Do a Right-Click Mouse button on it and select S[h]ow Picture. That will force the server to dedicate all its resources to loading that one picture. (C:) David, you should do in "Scenario" some sprites an option of how the sprite will be triggered : press key, on hero touch, on touch sprite(hero), auto start, parallel process. Hero touch: a hero touches a sprite. On touch sprite(hero): Sprite moves around and when it touches hero, the sprite commands would be triggered. Parallel process: The sprite will trigger while letting other sprites run, the sprite could stop with a switch or warping to another place. Autostart: The sprite will trigger while any other parallel process events were playing, the sprite could stop with a switch or warping to a place And also, you didn't need to make that snapshot program, you could use the "Print screen" button and then paste it into any image editor program. |
![]() ![]() A220: Hi Sergio, author of Dragon Slayer 3: Regarding my Snapshot program, well that is what I heard ! But I hit the key and my computer hangs. So does my Dad's.. I know it worked in DOS years ago and I never have tried it up until someone mentioned it, but on mine it hangs the computer and Dad's it blinks the screen once and nothing else.. Grr.. ![]() Regarding flow Sprite movement. If you want a Sprite to activate by touching it (and it is person-picture Sprite), insert the Flow Icon ![]() For an example of this, look in SuziQ at 04:17/04 to the Little Boy asking for Cookies. You will only need to touch him for him to respond. If you want a Sprite to respond that is not a person-picture Sprite and the player is not normally permitted to enter it, the only other way to do it is if it is Tile #00 BLANK ![]() To have the player enter the same space where a Sprite is, like if it's a tile or something, once again, use the Flow Icon ![]() I don't want to have auto-activated Sprites when you enter a map because many maps are used for more then just one definition (like map #2 may be the inside of everyone's homes), all spaced apart so they do not touch each other, or house 4 separate dungeons, etc. It would be - difficult for me to program in current ![]() Look for auto-run "Items" that can activate many all at once in unison without the player being anywhere near them in ![]() . . . Now, one thing I have been playing with is allowing a random-type of dungeon possibility for ![]() This means, the Worldbuilder would dedicate (and flag) one map specifically for a dungeon. They specify the number of random rooms it has (like 4x4 for 16) and the # of levels it has going both up and/or down. Random critters and items would be placed according to the "level" the player is in the dungeon, and selected based upon a large click-and-checkmark field. You could easily make a dungeon that has 100 levels to climb where the 100th or in steps of 20 warps to an exact map & location whereas the other ones do not have stairs to climb back down, etc. but touch a special WarpGate that teleports them to the next level. Exiting the dungeon could be disastrous as, if the worldbuilder did not permit it, the player would have to start back at level 1, or it is flagged for them to continue, they could, and at the last level they were at. This introduces a "Field Save" as well. There are no computations or difficult formalae involved in the dungeons themselves. They are quite simply 15x15 map regions requiring a special Helper Grid. Each "level" of the dungeon randomly chooses one of these 16 areas to stuff critters, items, and treasures for the player to find and surmise. Also the "exit" or Warp to the next level is randomly placed so the player has to wander around to find it. This is - a difficult concept but I can see how it would save Worldbuilders countless hours of building difficult but beautiful dungeons and expand them to more than just map size but 100 levels high in a tower or low in a dungeon and needing only to draw 16 mini-maps in the process. I would be interested in hearing some Feedback on this, as some of you may very want this and/or can offer some suggestions about it. I have seen this "Dungeon Technique"done is such games as Dark Cloud for the Playstation2, and both Dragon Warrior Monsters & Azure Dreams for both Gameboy Color and Playstation. The only disadvantage would be that re-entering a level would not have items exactly as you found them at first, but, like all the levels, be completely randomized, and may or may not have some items as was rolled by ![]() (I may copy this to one of the upcoming bulletins so it is recorded and can be read properly there) I know, tons of ideas but how many years to write them all in ?? ![]() ![]() |
