Q71: how do i make invisible tiles?

( Topaz )

A71:
Greets ChUcK:

Invisible tiles, or "couched" tiles are really quite easy to make !
Find a good clear spot on your map and plot a patch of grass, then draw water around it. Now plot another island just above it. Make a bridge there connecting the two like so:

Make sure you are in default zoom mode, that is the same zoom mode you see Testplay in (32x32 tiles and not smaller).

Okay, now put the cursor directly on the bridge in the middle. Press the "I" key to Invert this tile. Notice that it will turn Shazy.. This means that it has swapped places with the tile underneath. Since there is no tile, it turns Shazy. Now move the cursor one step to the left with the left arrow key and press "U" to pick Up the tile there (which is water) and press the right arrow key to return back to the bridge. Now press SPACEBAR to plot that new tile directly on top of your Shazy Bridge. Notice it gives a smear effect. You will NOT see this if you are zoomed out any !

Okay, as I described earlier in answering question # 47 these laws apply to couched tiles:

1. If it is not a Switch, or has a couched tile, the image and definition are the top.

2.
If it is not a Switch but does have couched tile, the definition is bottom, image is top.

Therefore applying this with the changes we have made to the single Bridge Tile, it will now APPEAR to be Water but actually be a bridge. If you invert it again with "I" then it is reversed where it APPEARS to be a bridge, but is actually a water.

Try this out in Testplay mode to get a good feel for it.
There's quite a bit you can do with this if applied correctly !

Click
HERE to see the remainder of the logic laws I wrote into including the changes that take place if you put a switch there, or hide it, or a combination of the two.

Hope This Helps !

Q72: I got two questions

Is that persona you assigned me Fuma from X?
(cause that is clamp's best anime ever)

Q73: Is ther any way to get a sprite to ask a multiple choise question that would have different responces?

By the way you're doin an awesome job with your program and your site!

( Topaz )

A72:
Greets goth child:

I'm pretty close to carrying 20,000 Anime pics at this point so it's pretty hard to tell. I came across a cache of that X1999 fellow so I'll probably change my Persona in here to match the one in Logo (guy holding the planet). To answer your question, the only anime I keep tabs on is SailorMoon so I don't know Fuma..

I'm pretty disappointed at the choices and design for the multiple items that will be seen below. 1-20 need their #s recolored (all faded), and 21-25 look pretty poor.. Will choose new faces and images for Persona later.. Since it will be nearly impossible for me to tell who "owns" a persona outside of a 10-question Forum, I will probably leave it at 50 as it is now, but fine-tune and select very good image choices for them.

I keep hoping some pretty girl is going to ask a question in here and use the nice # 43 Persona !

A73: Sadly at this time there is not.. Originally I was going to have the inquiry as part of the regular Icon Commands where you give arguments after it. Since there is a need for multiple choice inquiries, I will instate it. It will be used with the QuestionMarkBubble.

The ".." bubble is different and used to put a Heart/Tear/?/!/MusicNote/Idea Bubble above the Sprite in later .

Because these two look almost exactly alike, I'll change the frame color for them. None of this will be done though until Boss Combat is complete.

Regarding me doing an awesome job, thanks ! I think sometimes I forget to put the nice things say about me and in here trying to focus on just the questions so I'll try to make a habit of including all of an inquiry field.

The good news is, a world called "
Scenario Quest" is going to be posted sometime tomorrow.
It won't be protected (cause I don't have protection for worlds yet), and I recommend everyone get a good chance to look it over.

Since my grading was not met unfavorably as I asked in YouTellMe, I will be grading this world also as I did TomW's. I can already tell you it will get better marks.

Hope This Helps !

Q74: I dont care about the text. i want to put custom sprites into the game. stpe by step includeing the layout and what i haft to push give me an example.

and no that web page thing is not such an example.

( Topaz )

A74:
Greets SachC:

These are directions on how to make a Sprite:

It is possible others besides yourself are having difficulties at this and I want to make it as clear as possible.

I'd like you to understand this cause I think you're gonna be very good at this once you get it.

Okay, from the top. Bring up .
Make sure it is version 0.092e. That was just posted today.

First off, make sure you are in the map display and at default zoom view level.
To do this, hit the "`" until the tiles appear the same size as your game level.
They wrap around from small to smaller to smallest and back to normal size.

This key of "`" is just above your [TAB] key, it looks like a backwards apostrophe "'" and
on the same key on the keyboard is a sideways "S" that looks like this "~" . Hit that "`"
key until you are in normal zoom level where the tiles are the same size as Testplay.

Remember, you can enter and exit Testplay anytime with the [TAB] key.

Now hit [ENTER]. You should have:
Add Which One

on a box above and choices below.
Move the jeweled cursor until it is on the word "
SPRITE" and hit [ENTER].

That window vanishes and now says:

Image Of Sprite

Move the jeweled cursor until it is on the word "SPRITE" and hit [ENTER].

Now pick up the image for your sprite from the 12 choices. Use the jeweled cursor. Hit
[ENTER] on your choice.

A Question Chime will be heard and you will see in an inquiry window:

There Is No Associated
Sprite Message With This Sprite
OKAY To Enter One Now ?

Press "N" for no since you said you just want to make a Sprite for now.

You are returned back to the map editor, and you should see the Sprite you just doodled.
If you go into Testplay with the [TAB] key that Sprite will also be there.

Let me know when you've gotten this far.

Hope This Helps !

( ChUcK )

Q75: is there a way to amke a critter say something, then
attack you?

Q76: how do i make the main hero or heroine say something in a conversation?

( Topaz )

A75:
Greets ChUcK:

You can activate a Sprite before a critter attacks. With this knowledge you can make it look like it is talking to you. Let's take an example. First off, as you should know, critters can attack anything that is one space from them.

Taking this into account, you can place a Sprite one space from the critter like so:

Now put the cursor where the Blue X is and make a Sprite Message.
Anything like, "Gotcha now!" You get the idea.

What will happen is when the player takes one step forward, the Sprite will be executed first:

Gotcha now!

When the sprite is complete then a check for nearby critters is made.
Since there is one, the player will be attacked.

A76: Remember that to make "conversation" it is as simple as typing the dialogue directly into a Sprite. Let's make a simple conversation.

Make a sprite right here. Look to Answer # 74 to see how to make a sprite if you're not sure.
You can get there by clicking
HERE.

Now instead of answering NO in that example, we're going to say YES to the question of:

There Is No Associated
Sprite Message With This Sprite
OKAY To Enter One Now ?

When you do so, you will be transported to the Sprite Messenger. The LIFELINE of all interesting effects, story design, and dialogue that appears in .
This will next appear:

Type in the message now.
Hit [ESC] For Extra Options
And To Save Your Message.

Hit a key to continue and you will be presented with two new windows.
One up in the top-right-hand corner which is your Info Window, much like you use in the Mapper. And the other is centered at the bottom. This is your Dialogue Window.

Before you start typing your message, you want to have your Persona or Portrait of the player appear ? No problem. Hit [ESC] key to bring up the Sprite Messenger's main options.

A menu will pop up in the top-left-hand corner. Ignore the TYPE option at the Top and instead move the jeweled cursor until it is on the word PORTRAIT, 4th down from the top.

Hit [ENTER] to select it and you are given a few choices:

PLAYER
PICK
REMOVE

Select the Player since we want to add a Portrait of the Player to this message.
The system automatically defaults the Player's Portrait to appear on the RIGHT but you can choose the LEFT if you want.

Ah ! Your player's portrait just appeared ! If you chose LEFT you will notice that they are facing to the RIGHT instead of LEFT. Very nice !

Now you can start typing and NOTICE that your text is truncated so it does not run over the Portrait of your player.

Ready to finish up this one page ? Well, just hit [ENTER] on the bottom 5th line and notice that the Info Window in the Top-Right-Hand corner will reflect you now being on PAGE # 2 and a blank dialogue window. It's time for whom you're speaking to say something right ?

Hit [ESC] again, select Portrait from the menu again and this time choose PICK and press [ENTER].

ALL 24 available Portraits will come into view ! Use the arrow keys with the jeweled cursor to pick out the one you want to appear for the person you are talking to and press [ENTER].

Once again it will ask the side to appear LEFT or RIGHT only this time, it defaults to the LEFT. Press [ENTER] once you have decided on the side the Portrait will appear.

Ah ! Now you have a nice face of the person you are talking to ! Type out what you want them to say. You can keep going back and forth like this, and of course, you could have started with PORTRAIT PICK instead of PORTRAIT PLAYER to have the person whom you are talking to speak first.

Ready to save your Sprite Message ? Hit [ESC] again and choose EXIT all the way at the bottom. An Inquiry Chime will sound and it will ask:

Okay To Save Message?

If you say NO from here ALL the typing you did to add or change this Sprite will be lost so be certain to choose YES to save it.

You're done ! Move the cursor away from the Sprite a bit and hit [TAB] to enter Testplay and walk right over to the new Sprite you created and hit [ENTER] or [SPACEBAR] to activate the Message attached to them. That's all there is to it !

Hope This Helps !

( ? ) (You didn't leave an Alias or Persona! I will answer this because it's a pretty good question)

Q77: Can you create a version with a different title page so I may use this awesome program or post a program that lets you change it, i am sure others would like that too.

( Topaz )

A77:
Greets ?:

Flattery will get you everywhere.. Well, it used to. Right now I'm more interested in educating those serious about Worldbuilding in and posting worlds to educate others in good world design.

It is pretty easy to make your own logo screen. If you want your logo to appear immediately upon starting a new game, move the cursor to the place and map you want a new game to start and create a Sprite. There are details on adding a new sprite in Answer # 74 reached by clicking
HERE.

Like the answer to question #76 go all the way until you are ready to pick a Portrait for the Sprite. Since there won't be a portrait for this sprite, don't add one, but do hit [TAB] and select from the Sprite Messenger Icon Commands the following command that looks like this:

It's up in the top-right-hand corner. Press [ENTER] to add that as a single character to your message. Since it's the first character in a line, will interpret it as a command !

Then type out the letters "L" "O" "G" "O" for LOGO

You should have this on the screen:

Save it off with [ESC], select EXIT at the bottom of the menu, and YES to the next question.

Now return back to and hit [ESC] in the Main Map Editor to bring up the menu there. Select PLAYER and LOCATION and you will get the message:
Move To The Map And Location
You Want The Player To
Start For A New Game
And Press [ENTER]

Since the cursor is where we want it for a New Game just press [ENTER]. Notice that the little Icon will appear in the center of this tile. That's the marker that when you start a New Game, it will BEGIN HERE.

Leaving running, use any paint program, put together a nice logo screen and save it as "LOGO"
Bring up Windows Explorer and COPY your bitmap logo file into subdirectory \REALM\
which is one step away from where you are running your program.

Return back to and hit [TAB] to enter Testplay. From there hit [ESC] to bring up the Player's Menu, select FILE, and LOAD GAME. If you don't have any clear save spots, hit the [DEL] key to erase one. You need to have it say (New Game!) in the center of the panel to start a new game. Hit [ENTER] when you are on this panel.

Your Logo will appear before anything else !
When you compress and close your world to a .WRL file it will include your logo screen as well ! It's a nice habit to not have any saved games in the final distribution of your .WRL file.

In future , I have planned for it to save single .EXE adventures that bypass all my logo screens (but will include my copyright notice), however they may be quite big ! Exceeding 1 meg or more for a single executable..

This will probably not be seen until has a dozen or more worlds in the Download area so I can get a better idea of what is needed in the worldbuilding environment for a good RPG. That is most important to me right now.

Hope This Helps !

( milkmoney )

Q78: how do you use sprite messanger? also, how do you get your people to move around while they're talking?

Q79: another question i have is how do you get your people to respond to what other sprites say?

( Topaz )
Milkmoney, you need to make a Guestbook entry. I will answer these questions this time but the policy is now you must have a Guestbook entry before asking questions in here..

The rest of you I have been writing answers to in Q & A are doing just fine.

A78: Greets milkmoney: (you may want to login with a different name when you do, I don't like this one and won't take it in my Guestbook)

You can use the Sprite Messenger quite simply by pressing the [ENTER] key anywhere in the mapper and choosing SPRITE from there.
The details from there are explained in answer # 74
(click HERE) and answer # 76 (click HERE).

A79: Also covered in answer # 76.

Hope This Helps !
( Static )

Q80: Your graffic and sprite add-ons are too diffuclt to understand. even falling the instructions to the letter gets no results. humor us by going through a sprite upload step by step skipping no detail?

( Topaz )

A80: Greets Static:

I haven't seen too many add-ons and by looking at Toulouse's quest, where he did add them he still had some problems so this is a good question.

Directions on IMPORTING a graphic into :

First off, you have to have a graphic image. Go to make one in Paint, which is provided with your windows or your favorite paint program. Have it the size of 32x32 pixels or as close to that as you can. If you want to use one of my provided add-on images, you can use this as a sample for these instructions if you like:

Just right click your mouse button on it and select

Save Picture As...

You must click on the downward facing arrow at the bottom center of the filebox that has:

GIF (*.gif)

to the left of it and then click on the

Bitmap (*.bmp)

choice that will be seen just below it. Click back in the

File name

area.
Then type in the name you want for it. Save it in a spot where you can easily get to it.
Okay ! Now you have an image to import, either the one I provided or one of your own design !

Bring up Windows Explorer, which is also part of your Win95/98 system. Click on or highlight the file when you have it listed in the Explorer. Click on the menu at the top of the screen marked
File look down until you see the Rename text and click on that.

You are now given an option to rename the file. Change it's name to
TILE009
Now click on the Edit menu choice at the top and select Copy.
There will be the words
Ctrl+C to the right of it so in the future you know you can hit Ctrl+C to copy it in less steps.

Now using Windows Explorer go to where is running. You should see a subdirectory from there that looks like a little Folder followed by the word "
Realm".

Click inside that folder and, if you have Suzi's Quest open, you will see a large assortment of "
.spr" files. Now click on th menu at the top again on Edit and select Paste.

After a moment, the screen will update and the bitmap file you have will be copied to the end of all the "
.spr" files in here !

You're done !
Go now to run (or, if it was running, you need to shut it down and bring it back up again), and when you hit "P" after coming up in the map editor to see your tile choices. You will see that Tile # 09 did indeed get replaced with the Bitmap you selected !

When you go to compress and close your world, any import images will automatically be attached as well.

Please let me know if you are still having trouble !
.
For those of you not wanting to use the mouse in Windows Explorer.
You can hit the [ENTER] key to go inside a folder, the [BACKSPACE] key to jump back one step to the parent directory, use the Arrow Keys either from the number-keypad with the num-lock turned off or the 4 arrow keys just below and right of the [ENTER] for navigation, [Ctrl]-[INS] to copy a file, and [Shift]-[INS] to paste it which is quicker then a mouse.

Told ya I don't like Mice !

Hope This Helps !
