BULGARIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

The first Bulgarian Orthodox Church in America was built in 1907 in Illinois, as part of the Russian Orthodox Archdiocese. In 1922 the Bulgarian Orthodox community was detached from the Russian hierarchy and organized as a mission of the Bulgarian Church. It was raised to the status of Diocese in 1938. SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

In 1894 a first Serbian Orthodox parish was established in California within the Russian Orthodox Diocese. Other parishes were founded in the course of the following years and by 1921 the number justified the erection of a separate Serbian Orthodox Diocese, directly dependent of the Serbian Patriarchs.
