IOWA

US STATE OF IOWA

In 1838 the western parts of the Territory of Wisconsin - covering present-day Iowa, most of present-day Minnesota and part of the Dakotas - were detached and organized as the Iowa Territory. In 1846 the southern most populated part was created a State of the Union. (1) (1) The remaining northern lands formed an "Unorganized Territory" and became part of the new Territory of Minnesota in 1849 __________________________________________________________________________________
