NEBRASKA

U.S. STATE OF NEBRASKA

In 1854 the northern part of Indian Territory - which had already been settled by white migrants - was detached and organized as the separate U.S. Territory of Nebraska, which also included lands taken from the "unorganized territories" in the North. (1) After the separation of these regions in 1861 - forming the territory of Dakota - the remaining became the State of Nebraska in 1867. (1) These lands included later North and South Dakota and parts of later Montana and Wyoming. __________________________________________________________________________________
