One aspect of August, 1999, I remember vividly is just how excruciatingly high the temperatures were. It was not unusual for the humidex to surpass forty degrees, with little air circulation save a tiny, lifeless hot breeze. Perhaps I remember it so poignantly because most Augusts are like that. Nevertheless, even with sweat trickling down my neck and back, hounds at my feet trying to flee the heat in sleep, I found the reserves to spend some time philosophizing in my entries for the month. Take the "On Love" series for example. I also elaborated on some of the longstanding issues between my mother and me. Entitled, "Mommy Dearest", don't be expecting something akin to June Cleaver. Moo, just three months old, was up to here usual antics (the 24th, for example). She enjoyed her first trip to the Vet this month. Reekie, on the other hand, was enduring a flare up of his anxiety disorder, enough to have been put on anti-depressants temporarily (the 16th). And, finally, with the Wedding rapidly approaching, The Goddess was losing her cool, as was I with her antics. The behaviours were severe enough to prompt me to try some experimental writing on the 26th. It is a long one, be warned. Subscribe:
