FAMILY TREES

The following is a collection of family trees for some of the families of Calvert. This information was assembled based on an overall analysis of documented records, family records, living recollections of community residents and family lore passed down through the generations. In the absence of relevant records, the process of elimination may have been used to try to establish possible kinship where no other method was possible. The main effort has been to identify family structures up to about the time that Caplin Bay became Calvert i.e. 1922. Towards that end, the Newfoundland Census of 1921 has been used as the starting point to launch research backwards towards the earlier years of settlement at Calvert.
Like most family trees, many are far from complete. The loss of parish records and the absence of vital statistics have made it very difficult to accurately reconstruct families earlier than the 1870s. However, looking on the bright side, Ferryland District has been blessed with quite a lot of secondary documents, some of which have survived from the late 1700s. It is also hoped that the publication of these family trees may also bring to light additional resource information that individuals are holding privately or the existence of which I have not yet been made aware.
The software that produces these family trees has been manipulated to record mainly the male descendants of the family surname. In most instances, female descendants are included in the family tree of the surname into which they married. This approach reduces duplication, tree size, and complexity that may evolve as later generations, descended from the same ancestors, inter-marry. The software has also been optioned to protect the privacy of living individuals by "hiding" detailed information concerning these individuals. For this reason, it may appear that some details have been omitted for some descendants named in the family trees.
