The Reddigans of Calvert (Caplin Bay), Newfoundland

This is the family tree of the Reddigan families of Calvert (Caplin Bay). There are two family groups at Calvert; one descended from Martin Readigan of Co. Kilkenny, Ireland who settled at Brewin Cove, Aquaforte in the early 1800s and the other from Michael Reddigan, a cousin who married and settled at Admiral's Cove, Fermeuse in the 1830s. The families came together again at Caplin Bay, and although distantly related at first, they became more closely related through intermarriage in 1875. Except in the first generation, where the surname sometimes appeared as Readigan/Reardigan, the surname has been generally spelled with either a single or double D. This family tree portrays how the families were structured since their arrival in Newfoundland.
