The Sullivans of Calvert (Caplin Bay), Newfoundland.

The Sullivan family of Caplin Bay began with the marriage of Joseph (Joe) Sullivan, of Co. Wexford, Ireland to Elizabeth (Eliza) Swain, eldest daughter of Robert and Betsy Swain, one of the earliest Stone Island families. Joseph and Eliza's descendants now form the largest family group in Calvert and probably the highest related concentration of the Sullivan surname in Newfoundland. Like most Newfoundland families, especially over the past several decades, many of their descendants have left behind the traditional lifestyle of the fishing industry. Today they are scattered throughout Newfoundland and other provinces of Canada, the USA, and other parts of the globe.
