Although the Clancys were early settlers at Caplin Bay, their family structure is rather vague. It appears that Patrick Clancy first settled on the South Side of Caplin Bay early in the 1800s. From the 1840s onward, three males, who were likely sons of Patrick, appear in various records in Ferryland District. However, with the exception of James sons, no male heirs can be traced beyond the turn of the twentieth century. James Clancy, believed to be the son of Michael, raised his family on the North Side of Caplin Bay. Research indicates that possibly another son of Michael went to Chicago and raised a family there. Although James had two sons, neither of them married so the family name died out at Calvert, in the late 1980s. Three of James' daughters married, two raised families at Calvert, and another in the USA.
