Welcome to my world. This is what I do with my life when I actually discover I have one. The stuff on this page is all original, though it does not represent the whole spectrum of my work (for one thing, I can't put a novel up here, and only the shortest of short stories will fit). However, I do consider these works to be important parts of my portfolio, so I would like everyone to recognize that they are copyrighted. Please see my rules page for more information if you wish to copy anything from this page.

That said, I hope you enjoy my hobby. Please feel free to email me with any questions or comments you have. Flames are accepted, though I reserve the right to flame right back or ignore you completely ^_^.

Poetry is categorized by topic and ordered by date completed. If a description or explanation of a poem is available, it will be linked from the far right column.

A big hug and thank you to all of the people who have helped edit my work over the years. Also thanks to those who let me edit their creations- having the shoe on the other foot teaches faster than almost anything else ^_^. Finally, thanks to Sempai and Sekka, without whom I would not have had enough competition to keep me going (I will finish your x-mas present before you make your first sale, honest...).

Styles:

Rhymed Quatrains: Stanzas of four lines rhymed either AAAA, ABAB, ABCB, ABCD ABCD, ABBA, ABAA CBCC, or anything else I could think of. Metered, though not always with the same meter for different lines.
Rhymed Couplets: Stanzas of 2-8 lines or no stanzas at all. Rhyming pattern AABBCCDD, of course. Almost always metered.
Rhymed: Some other rhyming pattern not covered above. Usually metered, though it varies.
Sonnet: Shakespearan, Italian, or something random.
Pantoum: A French poem style, like the impossibly difficult Villanelle, but easier. Re-uses lines in a set pattern.
Rhyming, non-lyrical: Some rhyming pattern, but distinctly without structured or lyrical meter.
Lyrical: Less structured. May or may not rhyme- often rhymes in some places but not in others. A strong rhythm, whether structured or not.
Doggerel: Strong, usually iambic, meter. Rhymes. Usually short, with trite rhymes and no high theme. Easy to write, annoying to read.
Lyrical free-verse: Non-rhyming with a regularly-changing meter.
Free-verse: What it says. No distinctive or regular meter, ditto the rhyme. Frighteningly, these are some of my best.
Story-poem: Long. Free-verse without stanzas that usually describes a scene in detail.
Patterned: Contains some sort of pattern, either through repetition, use of a certain word or word-order, a changing number of lines in the stanzas, or whatever.
First-word: A patterned poem where the first word of each line either spells something out, is repeated, or whatever.
Haiku: Japanese poem structure containing two lines of five syllables surrounding one line of seven syllables. Highly metaphorical. I only write these in Japanese- English doesn't work for them any more than Japanese works for sonnets. Translations are included.
Sci-haiku: aka Sci-faiku, the only exception to the previous rule. It is apparently a challenge form for Sci-Fi writers. It is, believe it or not, rather difficult. The same rules as above apply, but it's in English and has to describe something futuristic.
