Sunset Notes Line 15: "Middle-earth" is, of course, Tolkien's name for his world, or our world. It is derived from Germanic legends. Line 27: This was a migration. It passed overhead for over an hour, and may have continued for longer- I don't know, I got cold and went inside. I'm amazed that there are that many birds left in the world. Line 33: "Red sky at night, sailors' delight; Red sky in morning, sailors take warning." I don't know the origin. Line 34: "This sea that bares her bosom to the moon / The winds that will be howling at all hours / And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers / For this, for everything, we are out of tune / It moves us not." -- William Wordsworth, "The World Is Too Much with Us." Line 40: "So goodnight ye moonlight ladies / And rock-a-bye sweet baby James / Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose / Won't you let me go down in my dreams / And rock-a-bye sweet baby James." -- James Taylor, "Sweet Baby James."
