tohru magami, mother of kamui, one of the magami clan. her clan is what you may call
shadow sacrifice, and they become someone's shadow, the 'sacrifice' that carries all their
disasters, essentially, a living sacrificial doll. they accept all the evils that befall their
person, and act on their behalf in utter secret. the magami are the scapegoats, the
kagenei, accepting the troubles of the casters who commission them. nevertheless, this
clan know how to avoid trouble as well, for their powers are beyond reckoning.

tohru was the 'kagenie' of the earth. with global warming, and the earth's temperature
continually rising, tohru voluntarily became the kagenie of the earth, to protect it from
destruction. however, even with her power, she could not stop the world's death. and
that way why she burned to death.

yet this was not the intended death she was meant to have. tohru was meant to die
giving birth to the first sword. but the powers of saya monou, her best friend and in a way
her lover, traded places with tohru and died on the specified day instead. saya died for
her sake, and after that, she and kamui left tokyo.

kamui: i want to see kotori and fuuma!
tohru: kamui, we can't see them yet. i'm sorry, but we can't.
kamui: w-why not? why can't we see them? kotori and fuuma?
tohru: you-you don't want them to end up like saya, now do you?

tohru: yes, saya was killed, killed for our sake. she was killed for the sacred sword.

then she burned to death, for the sake of the earth, and sent kamui back to tokyo for the
final battle. but before she died, she made arrangements with the retired chairwoman of
CLAMP School (who is most likely the mother of the current Rijichou, Nokoru
Imonoyama), for kamui to attend CLAMP School, and to also make sure that the second
sword, the one that is meant to be for her son, would be protected inside the campus.

tohru knew that the sword that saya gave her life for was for the other kamui, but i
doubt that she knew that it would be fuuma. nevertheless, she had to play out her part in
destiny, and then sacrificed herself for the earth.

mother of kamui, kagenie of the earth, tohru with her sister tokiko represent the tower.
they are the stability that keeps fate tempered, and both played important roles in the
final battle.
