The actual score was Florida State 48, Clemson 0.

The history of the Florida State - Clemson series shows that the Tigers haven't scored a touchdown in Tallahassee since the Seminoles joined the ACC. Garnet & Gold was the only prognosticator to take this lesson to heart, and thus had this week's winning predixn, picking FSU to win 45-3 for a difference of 4.24. With less faith in the Seminole defense was runner-up Scott Hill (9.06), followed by Scott Mandell (9.22), Travis Vaughan (10.44), and John Luce (10.63).

As has come to be expected, the press wasn't any wiser than the rest of us. They put in their usual middle-of-the-pack performance:

The Harmon Forecast FSU 37, CU 6 12.53
John Nogowski (Tallahassee Democrat) FSU 33, CU 10 18.03
Richard Rosenblatt (Associated Press) FSU 33, CU 13 19.85

The Seminoles go back on the road this week, travelling to Atlanta to meet the undisputed leader of the ACC standings, Georgia Tech. Now, here is where the obligatory remarks about Tech's recent 41-38 triumph over Virginia are supposed to go, along with the cute remarks about how "the Cavaliers stirred up a hornet's nest" and "got stung". But I'm going to Tech a favor, and leave out the insect imagery. It's like this: why do you think Tech has been having a stellar season, but only managed to sneak into the top 25 last week, and then only at 25th place? It's because no one can respect a team with a bug for a mascot. Tech has a great history. Remember that funny looking trophy that everyone wants, the Heisman award? Heisman coached at Tech. Tech won a national championship less than two years ago. This program deserves better than an insect. Finally, it's the Georgia Institute of Technology, not the Georgia School of Entomology. Let's all do our part to get Tech back on the road to national respectability, and refer to their team solely as the "Ramblin' Wreck." Forget Buzz.

Oh, and please send your predixn of the final score of the Florida State - Georgia Tech game to:

HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US

Please put something like "FSU @ GIT" in the subject line so I won't mistake it for a technical paper from the American Entomological Society. Also, send it early enough so that it gets to me before kickoff, which will be at 7:30 PM EDT on October 24th unless the teevee people have rescheduled it. Timely entries will be recorded for scoring and ranking following the outcome of the game. Results (e.g., the ones above) will be posted to alt.sports.football.college.fsu-seminoles and archived at the Seminole Football PrediXn Derby's Cooperstown-on-the-web at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/5177/.

Good luck!

Herb Wills, HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US
