Chapter 21

Kathleen gave her an I-don't-believe-you look; Chandra held up what looked like the clue they had found but only it was much bigger.
"Don't believe me?" ask Chandra "Look at this, unlike you I didn't get a rock." She handed Kathleen the map from the night before, Kathleen held it up and looked it over.
"A blank page? I think I like my rock." She tossed the map back to Chandra. "It's not blank, I can read it clear as day!" Kathleen took a look at the map again.
"Nope don't see anything." frustrated Chandra stormed off. "Where do you think you are going?" asked Kathleen.
"To find the second clue. Your more than welcome to join me if you want to." Kathleen sighed and followed. They walked for sometime, Kathleen got hungry and finished off her breakfast, Chandra was absorbed into the walk and kept glancing at her (blank) map. Every once in a while Kathleen would give out a long bored sigh and Chandra would remind her that she didn't have to follow if she really didn't want to. And every time Kathleen would give her an innocent look and say, what did you say something?
"We're here… I think," said Chandra giving her map another look. Kathleen raised her eyebrows "Where is here?" Chandra pointed to a spot on the map, Kathleen almost pushed it away but saw something this time she grabbed the map out of Chandra's hand. "Hey," protested Chandra.
"I see something this time. Look, is says you were here," she pointed to a spot on the map, "and now you're here," she moved her finger across a line up to another spot ", this must mark what we've traveled." It was Chandra's turn to roll her eyes.
"Yeah Kathleen, what have I been trying to tell you for the past hour?" Kathleen ignored her and studied the map, just wait she thought I'll find where the second clue is yet. Chandra snatched her map back as if reading Kathleen's thoughts and shoved it into one of her many pockets.
"Follow me," Chandra said smugly. "I know where it is." Muttering under her breath Kathleen followed. Chandra pulled out her map and made an I-just-figured-it-out-gasp "Look Kathleen!" Chandra said excitedly; she pointed to a small dot on the map and Kathleen read "Vole Cave."
Kathleen shrieked with excitement and ran up over the hill in front of them seeing the large cave before her. Chandra was close behind but Kathleen got to the cave before her.
"Wait Kathleen don't go in!" Chandra put on a burst of speed and knocked Kathleen to the ground just before she could enter the cave.
"Let me go! I'm going to find it first!" Kathleen struggled but not for long, she looked up and into the cave and saw thousands of red little eyes staring out at her.
"Ahh," Kathleen yelped throwing Chandra off and getting away from the cave, Chandra followed relaxed and unworried. "Chandra look behind you!" Kathleen yelled half scared half angry.
"I know," said Chandra calmly. "It said on my map that the rabid voles don't go into the light." Just then a small cloud floated over the sun and several voles emerged into the new shadow. "Ugly little things aren't they?" observed Chandra. She led Kathleen around the cave.
"Remember its Past the hole gray of the vole, it all makes sense now." Once on the other side Kathleen spotted a large walnut tree. "Knock is to knob," muttered Kathleen as she went up and tapped the largest of the trees small knobs. A slight tremor shook the ground and a small note, in the shape of a leaf dropped down from the tree. Chandra snatched it up and handed it to Kathleen. Kathleen flipped it over and read the clue.
