Chapter 24

The new path wasn't as nice as the first. Chandra judged that it would be a half an hour walk, till they reached the 'Stone Yard'.
"Stone Yard?" said Kathleen carrying on a conversation. "Sounds like a yard with tons of stones all around, do you think it really is the place to clue was talking about?"
"Sure why not," replied Chandra, "I see no reason it shouldn't. I just hope we don't find out what 'you wont be the same' means in the clue." A shadow passed over the ground and mostly out of habit Kathleen looked up. "Why do you keep doing that?" questioned Chandra, looking up also.
"The shadow don't you see it? I've seen tons of them since we started on the other path."
"I think I've seen one. Do you know what it is, are you sure its not a bird?" asked Chandra seriously.
"Every time I look up I just see it pass over the tree tips." Things aren't what they seem, thought Kathleen remembering the clue, I don't think I like this much anymore its not so easy.
"Let me know the next time you see one. We're almost to the site." Chandra picked up the pace and it wasn't before long that they entered a large grass covered clearing, with light shinning down through the thick treetops. Kathleen stopped next to Chandra as they both admired the beauty.
After the shock had worn off Kathleen noticed a large stone pillar at the end of the clearing, it had strange markings on it forming an arch across its face. Chandra pulled out her map again and gasped.
"What's wrong did we get on the wrong path? I mean come on this doesn't look like a stone yard to me, one stone is all I see," Muttered Kathleen.
Chandra shook her head; eyes open wide.
"This is the right path, and it's not a stone yard." She said passing the map to Kathleen.
Kathleen anxiously read over the map and almost fell backwards after what she read.
"Grave Yard! This is a graveyard does that mean were standing on dead people." Kathleen dashed over to the safety of the path. Chandra instead walked over to the stone pillar, examining it.
"Looks so familiar, if only I could remember where from." Kathleen slowly joined her and studied the markings also.
"It looks lik-" before she could finish a rock flew out of nowhere and hit her on the head. "Oh ouch!" Kathleen hissed as she fell to her knees and Chandra ran up beside her. "Its ok I'm al-" Chandra jerked her down farther. "Well look at that." Chandra muttered. Kathleen craned her neck trying to look at what Chandra was; in the process fell down.
"Look at what." Kathleen whined, but Chandra ripped a bottom button of her armor and held it up looking at the pillar. "What the heck are you doing?" Chandra didn't bother to answer; she didn't need to. Just as the light hit the metal it shone onto the pillar forming the markings into words.
"Just like the first clue, you need light to read it." Chandra said half to herself half to Kathleen. Kathleen stood up and they both read the letters together.
Of histories past join the stone
And ye shall find all known

"Hey it almost matches our clue!" Kathleen said amazed at their luck of reading it. "I bet we need my stone disc to open it." Chandra said it was worth a try; they spent sometime trying to find a place where the disc could fit.
"Look here, there's a hole," said Chandra pointing to a place in the pillar where it looked like someone had taken a hammer to it. "I think maybe this could be it, but I don't think we…" Chandra broke off, and was staring at the ground.
"Uh Chandra?" Kathleen said. Chandra ran over and picked up the rock that Kathleen had been hit with. She dashed over to the pillar and tried to put it in; it was the right rock but nothing happened.
"Let me try." Kathleen pushed Chandra out of the way and jammed the stone into place it stayed. "Just have to have the right touch." Kathleen said smartly. Chandra walked around the pillar mumbling the poem under her breath.
"I'm sick of all these poems! Of histories past join the stone? What is that supposed to mean," Chandra yelled.
Kathleen smiled and dragged her over and behind the pillar, there was a door and a rope latter leading into the dark.
"When you said the poem aloud just as I had my hand on the rock something must have clicked, now we have and entrance." Chandra looked at Kathleen.
"Good job… now why don't you go have a look." Said Chandra lovingly.
"What! No, no, no you go have a look." Kathleen stuttered, "I'm sure you much better at it then me." Chandra shrugged her shoulders and plunged into the darkness without using the latter.
Kathleen heard a slight thud; she sighed and followed. If we die it's her fault she thought. It wasn't that far down but you couldn't see anything; there was some light coming through the opening above her other then that it was just dark.
"Chandra?" said Kathleen into the blackness. Kathleen didn't hear a reply, but she didn't need one Chandra walked up beside her and used her button, like before, on the light; bending it like a flashlight. Chandra moved it around showing their surroundings; it was a good-sized area with slabs of marble and stone in rows. Tombstones, thought Kathleen, we are in a room with dead people.
"Wow this room is something else, have you ever seen anything like it?" asked Chandra, still checking out the room. Kathleen shook her head, following the beam of light.
"Look." Kathleen said running over to where Chandra's light had stopped; there was a lantern on the dirt floor. She picked it up examining it, and with the flick of a switch it turned on. "Magic," Chandra whispered. She was right it was basically a glass jar on top of a plate nothing inside, nothing in the bottom; only thing that had on its surface was a small knob. Chandra tucked her metal button away, and they both got a better look around. Chandra and Kathleen walked up to one of the tombstones and read:
Jacause Maylif
Keeper of realm: Jira

"Nice name," commented Chandra, "but what does 'Keeper of realm: Jira' mean" Kathleen shrugged her shoulders and they moved on to the next tomb. This one scared both Chandra and Kathleen and left them speechless.
