Mildred
Meredith, the Major's first wife, was b. Apr 1786, d. Oct 1823 in Izard
Co., AR, and is buried in Wolf Family Cemetery (sometimes referred to as
Herron Cemetery) down stream from Norfork, AR. She was married by the Rev.
J. Bourland on the 9 Mar 1809 in Hopkins Co., KY to Jacob Wolf b. 12 May
1786, near Asheville, Rowan Co., NC, and d. 1 Jan 1863. Her parentage is not
known and it should be noted that Wolf family members have said on more than
one occasion that the Major was married to three widows. If that is so,
Mildred, too, was a widow when they married. That might explain that is some
notes and records her name is recorded as Mildred Cassinger Meredith. It
simply is not known if Cassinger was her maiden name and Meredith the name
of her first husband, or not. It is quite possible that Cassinger is not
even part of her name. If she had been married before she married the Major,
there was never any mention of children from another marriage. No Cassinger
surnames were found in KY and very few Meredith surnames were there. The
marriage records of the Rev. John Bourland who performed the marriage in
Hopkins Co., KY in 1809 simply shows Milly Meredith.

_____
I am placing the name of William Meredith as the probable father of Maldred.
Joan Gould who was part of the restoration of the Wolf House says she has
documented the Wolf Family in MO in 1809 and that William Meredith was there
also. If it proves out that Jacob Wolf was there then perhaps it is the
right Meredith. However, I have no shread of truth as of yet, only her word
with no copy of her documents. |

Elizabeth (Lantz) Sanders, was the Major's second wife. She married the
Major Jacob Wolf (RN8) on 8 Jan 1824 in Batesville, Independence Co., AR,
and thus she became his second wife and the mother of eight of his children.
In the 1830 census she was listed as 30 to 40 years of age. She was
married to a Jesse H. Sanders 12 Mar 1817 in Ross Co., OH.
http://www.scioto.org/Ross/catalogs/marriagecatalog.html
No record of his death or burial have been found but she was listed as a
widow when she married the Major. It is believed that she only had
children by Jacob Wolf.
Two of Elizabeth's sisters married Pearson brothers. Using the Ohio marriage
website as reference the spelling for Jeremiah's name was Pierson and he was
the one who married Susannah Lantz in the marriage document found at the
site listed above, NOT George Pearson as stated in the Lantz data copy.
And of course the two may have been brothers because spellings do differ
according to who does the spelling. It is fact that Elizabeth Lantz
Wolf is deceased in 1850. Also it should be noted that on the 1850 AR census
- every name, Levi Pearson born in OH and age 60 is found. This is probably
the Levi Pearson who married the Nancy Lantz on 19 Mar 1812 in Ross County,
OH. Nancy and Levi were suppose to have moved to AR when her family
delegation came around 1818. That is the same spelling on the marriage
document and the 1850 AR census document. Also worth note is the fact that
in the Vandall Lance (note spelling) household on 1850 AR census- every
name, there is a Nancy J. Pearson living. It is known that the head of that
household is Vandal Lantz brother to Elizabeth, Susannah, and Nancy.
Perhaps, that child is the daughter of Nancy Lantz and her husband Levi
Pearson. If so it gives a reference point for the death of Nancy Lantz
as sometime after 1842. In Levi Pearson's household there is a 13 year
old Sally listed then an Elisabeth age 42 - which is probably a second wife,
then children starting with age 9 on down to 3. It could be that the child
named before the Elisabeth was by the first wife, Nancy, and the ones named
after the Elisabeth, belonged to her and Levi.
_____
Burial Site: As for Elizabeth Lantz Sanders Wolf she died 08 Dec 1846, so I
think she is buried down river from Norfork in the Wolf Cemetery. It was in
heavy use at that time. The last burial there was in 1884. It was over a
hundred years before the next burial there. |

NOTES: Major WOLF was
appointed Indian Agent and that is what brought him to Norfork, AR in early
1800's. For his service, he received on 20 Jul 1825 a land
grant from the United States of America for 75 acres of land with
the patent title signed by President John Quincy Adams. His house is one
of the earliest built in the territory. It served as the post office,
church, court house and such. It has been preserved and is now a
historical building open for tours in the spring and summer months.
Of course the house does not have electricity or heating so it can not
be open during the winter. The house was confiscated in late 1862 by the
Union soldiers over protest by the Major when he was 77 years old.
He never recovered from the trauma and soon died. Thus his empire
of land and wealth was dismantled and the family became dispersed from
the area.
