James M. Wolf, Sr -
Generation 5 James M. Wolf who was b. ca 1821, m.
Ann Jane McFelch and had a son also named James M. Wolf, Jr. It is not know
where he was born, but it is possible that since his father was suppose
to have moved his family to Arkansas in 1820-21 that he is the first of
the Major's children to be born in AR. He d. in AR some time before
1847. Clearly it is documented that James M. Wolf married Ann Jane McFelch, daughter of Asa and Sarah
(Yoakum) McFelch. She was sister to Malinda
McFelch who married James' older brother George Washington Wolf. She had
another sister Mahalia McFelch and a younger brother, Asa Jr.
James M. Wolf, Sr. died leaving his widow and a young son, James
M. Wolf, Jr. I believe the person listed on the 1850 AR census in
the family of Richard Erwin and wife Ann Jane (McFelch) Wolf Adams as James Moore?, is
that son. His birth date would be consistent with what is known as fact.
This Adams family left the area on a wagon train to Texas after 1867.
James M. Wolf would have been the fifth child and last
child of the Major and his first wife. James M. Wolf married
Ann Jane (McFelch) who eventually became his widow, but, before so, she
also became the mother of his son James M. Wolf, Jr. Ann Jane was
b. 6 Feb 1824, in AR, and she died in 1890 and is buried in Sycamore
Graveyard, Ireland, Coryell Co., TX. It is true that James's widow Ann
Jane Wolf later married Richard "Ervin" Adams son of Mary Ann Wolf
(sister to his father) and her second husband John Quincy Adams and had
nine more children. It is true that James Wolf died in AR sometime
around 1846 because his widow was married to Richard Ervin "Ervin" Adams
and their first child was born in 1847. The Adams family left Arkansas
with a wagon train to Texas in 1867.

James M. Wolf, JR. Generation 6
James M. Wolf Jr., was
born some time around 1844 in AR. It is thought that his father, the older James Wolf
Sr., died soon after his birth and proved to be deceased at least by
1847.
On the 1850 census roll, in the R.E. Adams family,
there is a James Moore, male, age six listed as the first child. The
age, sex, and circumstance indicates that this must have been the son of
James M. Wolf, so do not know why the name Moore was used instead if it
is the son in question. The name Wolf is not found, nor is the name
Adams shown as the last name for the other children listed either and
that should be the case.
On 1860 census in
Izard County AR page 440 there is a James M. Wolf. I do not know who
this person is as of this posting, but it is known he was not the son of
William Michael Wolf as he was in the Tinnin family at this time.
The 1870 AR census shows a James M. Wolf, born in AR and age 26 with
wife, Mildred, born in AR, age 25, and daughter, Martha A., age 2 as
born in TX. These dates would be consistent with the age of the James
Moore found in the Erwin Adams family on 1850 Izard AR census, and the
person I believe to be the James M. Wolf, Jr. son of Ann Jane McFelch
and James M. Wolf Sr., and then step-son to the Richard Erwin Adams who
married the widow of James M. Wolf Sr. This Richard Erwin/Irwin
Adams family is found in Parker County, TX for the 1860 census. He
is listed as I or J Adams on the census and the census taker only used
initials for the given names. There is a J. Wolfe listed as 16 on
this census and since our James M. Wolf joined the CSA service from
Parker County Texas it is pretty certain to the the same person that was
the son James M. Wolf Sr. and grandson to Major Jacob Wolf. This
J. Wolfe is well documented from his CSA service on and he married
Mildred Finnley from AR so he then matches up with that 1870 AR census
discussed above.
James M. Wolf, Jr. with wife Mildred are
found on the 1880
Baxter County census for Mt. Home with family. He is a hotel
keeper. He did have a son Max who
was killed in train accident. The obituary was reported in the Austin
Statesman and noted in the Baxter Bulliten. It stated that the
James M. Wolf family had moved to San Marcus, Texas about 1887.
The family is found on the 1900 and 1910 census in
Travis County, TX. So there was movement between AR and TX.
on more than one occasion.
