Organizations and Military Institutions of the Northlands

The portly tavernmaster continues on. "Since Freuhaven is the crossroads of the world, we see many different types and groups come through here, even some pretty strange ones. Here are the most important ones in the Northlands." Assassins of the Black Hand are a group of excellent professional assassins for hire, but reaching them is not easy. Their leader is Jaden Deathstalker, and nobody knows where he is. No more than five Assassins are known to have been caught for their actions, and in the remote chance that they are caught, each Assassin keeps an arsenic pill in a ring they wear.

Children of the Darkness is dedicated to creating chaos and anarchy in the world; as such, cells are often led by priests of Marixius. There is no central organization, and most members only know 1-2 fellow Children.

The Dodecadrate is a group of the twelve of the most powerful mages in the Northlands. Its members include Alisember the Red, Bacaby, Eppevy, Fihlithir, Fraquanozor, Jarmestor, Otill, Raeblejorn, Raiby, Rubixy, Vanderheyden, and Vlarzahask.

The Gennessee Rangers serve as Shennendam's unofficial army, as the mages who rule that nation are too disorganized to form a national military force.

The Kingsguard is the national army of Cassenddy; it is seperated into divisions roughly along the duchy divisions. The divisions include the Iron Hills Brigade (Edessa) and the Dunstany Guard (Borderlands). Special units include the Royal Highlanders from Nordmaling. The Lord-General is the commander-in-chief of the King's armies in Cassenddy; currently, the Lord-General is Alvon Westmorlan, Duke of Armandy. The Counsel-General is a general, usually retired, that serves as the military counsel for the King of Cassenddy. He does not have as much power in the army as the Lord-General. The Lord-Admiral of Cassenddy's extensive navy is Raphael Wickes, a distant relation of Westmorlan.

Knights of the Purple Crown are an organization of paladins of Kammerlein who are determined to serve justice (and not always what is good!). They are based in Alamayn and are headed by Grand Magistrate Tyrell Millay.

Knights of the Swords (also known as the Swordsworn Keepers of the Circle of Six) are an organization of paladins based in the Swordlands, whose main goals are to: (1) promote good and fight the forces of evil in the Northlands, and (2) more importantly, find the Six Swords of Power. Sometimes, this second goal supercedes the first. The Knights are headed by the Knight-Commander (Sir Balandaar Romidan), who is advised by a council of five Knight-Elders.

The Prince Companions of Cassenddy are an elite fighting group consisting of the Crown Prince and other sons of powerful nobles in Cassenddy. To join, a candidate must be of high nobility and must prove their loyalty to the Crown and fighting ability. As there is no Crown Prince, there is no official group, but rumors persist of an organization...

Sacred Order of Meegan's Shield is a group of magicians devoted to helping the forces of good, advising rulers, and giving magicians a good name. They are headed by the mage Jorale Bourden.

The Seagate Free Mercenaries are among the most skilled and best well-known mercenaries in the Northlands. This large group is in much demand and is headed by Commander Belvey Trethyr.

The Uhlmanite Church of Tabolport has taken over the southern countries of Watersdowne, West Avallon, and Llaren, and are now laying siege to Seagate. The Church has several orders of monks within the Church and other organizations including:
Defenders of the Faithful These priests of Uhlman seek out mages and wizards and detain them. No one know for sure what happens to a magic-user when caught, but there are some very gory rumors. Dayen Rabb leads the Defenders in the Northern Colonies.
Inquisitors This is the Church's primary instrument of fear, the secret police, the Gestapo of the Church. Think KGB. All the Inquisitors are basically fanatic and sadistic. Nobody likes (or expects) the Inquisition. Lyam Merker is the Inquisitor General for the Northern Colonies, but he reports to his superiors in Tabolport.
Knights of the Holy Shielding These are the leaders of the religious armies that Tabolport has sent up to the Northlands. Each Knight has extensive training and a dozen retainers and can command civilian levies.
