This important trading city has long been at the mercies of Karming, so it built strong defenses, both against land and sea. Not only is Alamayn protected by the Mystmarshes on the north and the Windemere Range to the west and south, but the capital city from which this country takes its name sits high on a hill overlooking Karming Reach. Strong walls surround the city, and a vigilant naval force contests control of the Reach with the Imperial Karmani Navy.
While much of the land to the north and south was under the sway of the Karmani Empire at one time or another, Alamayn has remained surprisingly autonomous. Since the nation received independence in 610 Fd, Karming has made several attempts to bring the rebellious state back into the fold, all of which were unsuccessful. The northern half of the city was burned during Karming’s latest attempt in 1070, but it was rebuilt. As a result, many Alamayn harbor deep a resentment of Karming. Alamayn has traditionally had close ties with Shennendam, although, the Free City was unable to assist its southern neighbor during the recent invasion of Sancerre. Overall, Alamayn has generally remained out of the fighting in the north and south, and prospered from sales of weapons and food to the beleaguered nations. Many a citizen left Alamayn to work as mercenaries for the various warring armies. Thus, the city’s defenses are slightly weakened, but its constant watch for expansionist moves on the part of Karming have not changed a bit.
Alamayn is world-renown as for its fine glass and metal wares.  There is also a major iron mining region in the southeast part of the country, which is shipped to the capital for refining.

Geography: The city of Alamayn is in the center of the nation, perched on the white cliffs of the eastern Karming Reach, with a highly defended deep-water port (the only one for fifty leagues north and south).  There is a narrow region of land to the north that is cultivated, centering around the market town of Barrafield.  A spur of the Windemere Mountains cuts the country in two, almost reaching the Marvent Sea just north of the capital.  The iron mining region in the south is along the narrow Salvich River valley with Lurich at its center.

History:

Politics: Garth, a mage, rules the city with an iron fist and supports a large number of mages in studies. The city traditionally had good relations with the Genessee nations, and several mages from Shennendam have heeded Garth’s call for support against Karming’s aggressions.

Military Units: Alamayn's military, the Iron Guard, is a well-equipped troop with high morale, that is known for its fearsome heavy cavalry units.  The militant arm of the Church of Kammerlein, the Knights of the Purple Crown, are headquartered here and maintain a large armed presence as well, that would not hesitate to defend the city.
