Shennendam is a country that is ruled by mages, or perhaps ruled is not the right word. While the various mages squabble or study, the lands have somehow been able to rule themselves. In light of the recent almost-invasion of Shennendam by giants from Sancerre, a group of younger wizards have started arguing for more national cohesion. Shennendam is located on the eastern end of the Marvent Sea, sandwiched between the Windemere Range to the north and the Marinin River separating the country from Sancerre to the south.

Geography: There are highlands starting on the Marinin River that stretch north and east to the Windemere Range. There is also large tracts of forest on the Keighley River valley.

History:
Politics: A wizard is selected among all in the country to govern as the Count. Each section of the country is ruled by a Steadholder, the nobility of Shennendam. Unfortunately, the Steadholders can rarely stop their bickering and run the country very effectively, so each Steadhold is almost independent of its ruler. The common people have a deep connection to Sancerre and there is a strong movement about to help recapture the southern lands.

Military Units: Because the Steadholders haven't organized a cohesive, national army, a group of rangers organized the Genessee Rangers. Each major town in Shennendam supports a small garrison of 15-30 Rangers, who patrol the surrounding area and can give enough warning to call out the local militia. The Rangers also become the officers for the militia when it is called is out. The local militias together consist of about 9,000 men and are theoretically backed by the magic of their Steadholders. The city guard for Fredericksburg is 75 and Count Sigismond has a personal bodyguard of 100 men, including 25 cavalry. Finally, about 700 members of the former Sancerre Compagnies d'Ordonnance fled across the Marinin and regrouped in Shennendam to help at the battle of Canaddear Fords. They have started plans to retake their country.

Sancerre bore most of the brunt of the Giant Troubles and collapsed under its weight. Amid rumors of collaboration by military officials, Sancerre's army faced a complete rout in this two year war, and only a small portion of its famous light calvary escaped into the Guillemot Wood or followed their Marquis to Shennendam. Now, Sancerre is ravaged by savage forces, where all of the remaining common folk are slaves and lawlessness rules the land.

Geography: The Dimswamp is around the mouth of the Marinin River and there are highlands to the east of the swamp. The Guillemot Wood takes up most of the center and south of the country.

History:
Politics: The land has been invaded by hill giants and humanoids from the southwest. Most of the army fled to the Guillemot Wood or to Shennendam along with their Marquis and nobility.

Military Units: Known as the Compagnies d'Ordonnance, the Sancerre military was known for its excellent light cavalry under the command of Marshal de Rallune. His soldiers still remain a strong force in the troubled region.
