The Gods of the Northlands

The tavern-keeper goes on, "I have never been what you would call a religious man, but I know enough to get around."
Good Gods
- Ravenien (Great Sun) = major god of goodness, light and the Sun.
Ravenien's priesthood is strange in that it was divided into two different sections long ago, which evolved with slightly different sacraments. The Western Shield, which covers Cassenland, is based in Stephanopolis and headed by High Patriarch Esmeray. The Eastern Shield, which covers the rest of the Northlands (especially Kammerander and Medinine), was based in Eastfair and the High Patriarch was Cannabaudes, but he was killed when the Witchlord overran Eastfair.
- Iraeal (Earthmother) = major goddess of all creatures, elves, forests, and healing.
- Carmichal (The Sword of the Heavens) = intermediate god of battle, chivalry, courage, heroism, and honor.
The priesthood of Carmichal is based in Pummelford, where it is headed by Grand Templar Konstantin and has churches in many major towns and cities across the Northlands.
- Kammerlein (Light of the Just) = intermediate god of government and law.
The priesthood of Kammerlein is based in Alamayn and has extensive followings in Cassenddy and Karming. Church lands include the Prelacy of Montressor in Cassenddy. The Supreme Prelate Quintilian leads the priesthood of the church, with various Prelates and Holy Censors below him, with the Grand Magistrate of the Knights of the Purple Crown heading up the more militant division of the church. There is some debate among scholars regarding the relationship between Kammerlein and Uhlman, who is worshiped in southern countries.
- Sabrae (The Summoner) = intermediate goddess of death, renewal, and spring.
- Sireana (The Sky One) = intermediate goddess of agriculture, hunting, and the Moon.
- Celestian = demi-god of liberty, protection, and the common soldier.
Celestian’s priesthood is the newest in the Northlands, as he was only elevated to demi-god status two hundred years ago. Primate Breward leads the priesthood from Cam Malvern, and it is especially concentrated in Shennendam and Andalusia and Sancerre before they were invaded. Because much of Celestian’s congregation is now held captive, the priesthood is in a bit of chaos.
Neutral Gods
- Chiana (The Far-Seeing) = major goddess of fate, balance, and the future. Chaina's priesthood is headed by Holy Servant Salmanaazor.
- Gherandel = major god of knowledge, magic, and wisdom, twin brother of Telenna.
- Camber = intermediate god of magic and humor.
There is no established priesthood for Camber, for he has a very small congregation, with the largest concentration in Freuhaven.
- Gwynneran (The Wanderer) = intermediate goddess of bards, merriment, and wine.
- Illmyren (Lady of Fate) = intermediate goddess of chance, luck, and wealth.
- Mithrander (Life-forger) = intermediate god of dwarves, gnomes, mining and invention.
- Telenna = intermediate goddess of commerce, manufacture, and trade, twin sister of Gherandel.
Telenna's priesthood is governed by a Council of Hierarchs and is based in Rylkennen, with strong influences in Marblehead and Klandelberg.
- Zerys (King of the Waves) = intermediate god of the sea and weather.
Zerys' priests tend to be friendly and outgoing, unless you take advantage of them, in which case they try to squash you like a grape. They use healing spells on others first, because they think they are tough enough to do without them. Beer and women are considered par for the course, but most priests don't go overboard because they may get hurt. Some of the priests in the upper church echelons are a little stuffy, but the frontline priests are usually a wild bunch. Freidtag is reserved for prayer, sailing, and fighting. The priesthood of Zerys is based in Marblehead with concentrations in Seagate, Watersdowne, and Merscham, and is headed by High Priest Melantho.
Evil Gods
- Marixius (The Dark Scythe) = major god of chaos, destruction, and war.
Priests of Marixius can be found almost anywhere (even in the Swordslands) although they usually keep a low profile. They operate in cells and usually only know of one or two other cells, so there is no centralized structure to the priesthood. Priests of Marixius followed the Witchlord’s conquests and have recently seen an upsurgence in their followers.
- Shoded (Sorrow-bringer) = major goddess of darkness, decay, and disease.
Most of Shoded’s priesthood was forced underground in purges that followed the destruction of its primary temple in Tel Hadar. However, they are facing a resurgence, partly due to the recent wars and also to the reconstruction of their temple in Ishbaar.
- Bileam = intermediate god of death and the afterlife (hell), bitter enemy of Vrammyr.
- Malaggar = intermediate god of cheating, gambling, and greed.
- Vrammyr (The Shadow) = intermediate god of undeath, bitter enemy of Bileam.
- Malaacha (The Many-faced) = intermediate goddess of lust, passion, revenge, and seduction.
- Cathos (Night Spawn) = demi-god of the night and misfortune.
There are very few priests of Cathos, as most people are wise enough to stay away from him. Only a very few truly evil people worship Cathos.
