I've been sending out custom or customized Christmas cards to family and friends since I was about ten years old. My earliest efforts were hand-written messages on three by five cards. Each card was composed using two colors of ink -- red and green. Each was also decorated with hand drawn holly and ivy, snow men, etc.

One year, I had a wonderful idea of how to recycle Christmas cards. I thought that it was a darn shame for people to send us such beautiful cards that were then looked at once and thrown away. I thought that I would re-use them! I took all the Christmas cards that my parents received and taped a piece of white paper over the signature of each of them. "Just as good as new!", I declared. My mother vetoed the idea.

Anyway, below are some of the actual cards that I've sent out from various years.

For several years, I sent out commercial Christmas cards featuring the "Ziggy" cartoon character, with a personalized inscription.

Here's the inscription from 1989:

... And another year passes... You may think that the only time I think of you is at Christmas when you get your annual Ziggy card, but this is definitely not the case! I think of times past often and it's difficult to avoid reminiscing about the fine memories I have of times spent with you. Hope you are well. Luv & Kisses. Smile & Be Happy! Eric

Here's the inscription from 1988:

Christmas time is often conveniently used to remember and reinforce old friendships and acquaintances, as well as to strengthen new ones. It's in this vain that I fondly recall many hazy memories of you in jubilant times past and often yearn for more of the same. But times change, as do people, and to dwell too much on the past compromises the present and future. I'm hoping that you will feel encouraged and warned, therefore, by my most profoundly sincere hopes for your ever increasing satisfaction and contentment. Smile, Be Happy, and Keep in Touch! Eric

Here's an inscription from 1987:

Hello folks, I'm wishing you all a boundlessly euphoric, intoxicatingly content, always healthy, love-saturated existence! Smile & Be Happy! Luv & Kisses, Eric
