Hello,

It's Christmas time again. It's difficult to consistently keep in touch with all my remotely located family members and cherished friends. Likewise, though I try, I don't always adequately show my appreciation for my friends and colleagues that I see often. In order to remedy these wrongs, I'd like to remind you of the warm feelings and high regard that I hold for you throughout the year. Even though I am only able to see some of my friends and family once a year, or even once a decade, please know that you are still thought of often. As is my way at this time of year, I'd like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Also, I'd like to once again urge all of us to do all we can to maximize the well being of the earth and of its inhabitants.

Here's some interesting things that happened to me this past year:

I reached the 12 gallon threshold of lifetime blood donations

I continued to volunteer four hours a week on a crisis hotline and even saved the life of someone who was actively attempting suicide

I saw a wild turkey for the first time -- very close to where I first saw an owl (great horned) almost exactly a year earlier

I survived the great snow storms of '96 that saw record snowfalls all along the east coast

I ate a fresh (non-dried) fig (had never even seen one before). It was juicy and very yummy. It was bright pink on the inside!

I went skiing "out west" for the first time (Whistler/Blackcomb near Vancouver) -- it was absolutely incredible

I logged 760 miles on my bike, mostly in 30-50 mile increments

I got hooked on genealogy. I traced my father's ancestors back about 250 years further than previously known. I traced my mother's ancestors back much farther, after finding that she was descended from King Edward III of England (who is my 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd Great Grandfather).
