The actual score was Florida State 47, Virginia 21.
Paul Hvidding wins Game 7 of the Seminole PrediXn Derby with a difference of 4.47, one of the ten best scores of the season. Tony Patterson (2nd, 5.00) was slightly off the winning pace, but was still good enough to record his fourth top-five finish this season. Paul Barkowitz (3rd, 5.10), Michael Wolan (4th, 6.08), and 'Nole Tony Turner (5th, 6.40) all made their first 1997 appearance in the top five.
There was quite a bit more offense Saturday night than expected; only three predixns -- Michael Ridenhour (13th, 11.31), Rick Machado (32nd, 14.87), and John Thurber (58th, 21.10) -- had the Seminoles scoring at least the 47 points that they actually put on the board. There were quite a few prognosticators who thought the Cavaliers would rack up more than twenty points, but most of them thought Virginia would win. I got caught underestimating myself (51st, 18.36), my only hope for a respectable performance was if the game had been called at the end of the first half.
After it was all over, Virginia left the field with their scoring streak intact at 160 games, and the Seminoles added another notch to their ACC winning streak. Fans of both squads are now safe from headlines like "Specter of 1995 Haunts Seminoles" till at least 1999.
A thank you to everyone who played in the largest Seminole PrediXn Derby of 1997, even the fifty who beat the pants off of me. In private I may be sticking needles into your voodoo dolls, but here in public I can sincerely say that y'all are the greatest!
81 prognosticators put their predixns on the line this week as the Seminole PrediXn Derby was combined with its Wahoo counterpart. Next week the two contests go their separate ways as the 'Noles get ready to host N. C. State and the 'Hoos travel to College Park, Maryland, to meet Yertle. Got some insight on the FSU - NCSU score? Send your predixn to:
Please put something like "FSU vs. NCSU" in the subject line so I don't throw your message out with the chain letters. Your entry must reach me by kickoff at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 1, so send it early -- what's wrong with right now. All timely entries will be recorded to be scored and ranked following the outcome of the game. Results will be posted to this website, ignored by the major media, and archived at the PrediXn Derby website:

On the other hand, if you'd like to enter a prediction of the Virginia at Maryland score, e-mail it to Scott Mandell at:
With consideration similar to that described above. You know, put "UVA @ UMD" in the subject line, and get it to him before kickoff on November 1.
Good luck!
