The actual score was Florida State 38, Georgia Institute of Technology 0.
"BeachNole" captured a second title this season with a game-low difference of 7.62, the only prognosticator to come within 10 points of the actual score. Just missing the ten-point margin were Eric Smythers (10.44) and "the St. Augsutine 'Nole" (10.44), who tied for the runner-up spot. Also in the top five were Peter Elliott (4th, 12.37) and Bill Spanks (5th, 12.65).
"BeachNole" and Elliott each have a pair of top five finishes now, which puts them near the top of that list:
Tony Patterson <Tony.Patterson.tonyp#nt.com> 3 (2,1,4) <BeachNole#aol.com> 2 (1,1) Bob Laffen <laffen#capital.net> 2 (5,1) Peter Elliott <PSElliott#aol.com> 2 (5,2) Ron Smith <ronps#mindspring.com> 2 (4,4) Robert Kerr <rkerr#mindspring.com> 2 (5,5)
The first column of numbers is how many top five finishes each has had this year, the last column contains the actual finish positions.
Anyone who was at the game enjoyed a beautiful day for football, contrary to the weather forecasts. Another plus was the Ramblin' Wreck marching band, playing the best fight song in the Atlantic Coast Conference (or at least the only one any sane person would be caught singing). The mood was much more electric than it was for the Miami game.
My thanks go to everyone who played. For future games, I wish I could warn you as to which Seminole defense was going to show up, but as you can see (25th, 18.38), I'm still struggling with that mystery myself.
Next week the Seminoles meet the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. Will the 'Noles bring the defense that played against Miami and Georgia Tech, or will the 'Hoos score like Duke and Clemson did? It's enough to give a prognosticator fits, but when you figure it out, send your predixn to:
Please put something like "FSU vs UVA" in the subject line, so I'll know you're not trying to tell me how to promote my product via bulk e-mail. Send your entry early, so that it gets to me before kickoff at 7:00 PM EDT on Saturday, October 25. How does the song go? Oh yeah: "All timely predixns will be recorded to be scored and ranked following the outcome of the game." Results just like the ones above will be posted to alt.sports.football.college.fsu.seminoles and a couple of other fine newsgroups. All results eventually end up at the PrediXn Derby web page:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/5177/
All the results back through 1995 are there, plus 1997 PrediXn Derby stats, and almost 2000 individual HTML coding errors (next time I'll RTFM). Good luck to all!
