The actual score was Florida State 50, Maryland 7.

After a rocky start in Game I, our gurus of the gridiron honed their prognosticating skills and came up with some awfully close predixns in the Maryland game. Congratulations to this week's champion, Chris Brady, who scored a season-low difference of 1.00. Runner-up Mike Sukhadwala (1.41) is no stranger to top finishes, having won three or four predixn derbies over the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Mike Edgerley (2.24), Ken Myers (2.83), and Robert Kerr (3.61), complete the top five. Kerr establishes himself as the early-season consistency leader; he was also fifth in Game I. It was a tough contest this week, and I'm sure a lot of folks are feeling the way I do: How did I come up with this great pick (6.08) and still get slaughtered in the standings?

Maybe this Saturday will be different. Next up is the Seminoles taking on the Clemson Tigers in Clemson, S.C. FSU has never lost a game in the Tigers' Memorial Stadium, even dating back to those years when the Seminoles weren't good enough to be in the ACC. Does the streak end here?

If you think you can dislodge Robert Kerr from the top five, or maybe just come up with a super predixn of the final score of the FSU - Clemson game, send your predixn to:

HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US

Make sure you put something like "FSU @ Tigers" in the subject line so I won't mistake your message for Great New Business Opportunity #1336. What else...make sure you send the entry early so that it gets here before kickoff time on Saturday, September 20. All entries will be recorded to be scored and ranked following the final outcome of the game. Results will be posted in alt.sports.football.college.fsu-seminoles, and also to a particularly shoddy excuse for a website at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/5177/.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who put their forecasting skills on the line in Florida State vs. Maryland. Good luck with your Florida State at Clemson predixn!

Herb Wills, HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US
