The actual score was Florida State 47, Miami 0.

Tony Patterson moved up from his second place finish in Game III to share the top slot with, um, "BeachNole." Both had a predixn of FSU 45, Miami 3, which gave them a difference of 3.61. "Bitts" (3rd, 6.08) and Peter Elliott (5th, 9.49) made their first appearance this season in the Top Five, while Ron Smith (4th, 8.60) recorded his second straight Top Five finish (both in the fourth place spot).

Usually I present the performance of the professional press as a consolation to those of us who didn't do as well as hoped (e.g., me). However, this week's media predixns stacked up fairly well (although not Top Five caliber).

John Nogowski (Tallahassee Democrat) FSU 48, UM 10 10.05
Richard Rosenblatt (Associated Press) FSU 38, UM 10 13.45

The sports writers had less respect for Miami than most of us amateurs. But don't be fooled -- Miami will be back. There is too much pride and history in that program for it to stay down. Of course, keep in mind that this is coming from a guy who finished back in 34th with a difference of 20.81.

To everyone who entered a predixn, thanks! You helped make the Miami game weekend that much more interesting.

Next Saturday the Predixn Derby follows Florida State to Duke University, home of exotic lemurs and the Duke Blue Devils football team. The Blue Devils hold the ACC record for having played in more homecoming games than any other football team in the conference. Does that give you an idea as to what the final score is going to look like? If so, send your predixn to:

HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US

Please put something like "FSU @ Duke" in the subject line so I won't mistake it for a crank message from an alt.lemurs reader. Make sure you send your entry in early, so that it gets here before kickoff at 7:00 PM EDT on October 11. All timely predixns will be recorded to be scored and ranked following the outcome of the game. Results, like those for the Miami game above, will be posted to alt.sports.football.college.fsu-seminoles, and eventually archived on the web at:

http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/5177/

where you can already find the results from the FSU-Duke Predixn Derbies of 1995 and 1996.

Good luck!

Herb Wills, HWills@FreeNet.TLH.FL.US
