JANUARY 1861

 

Tues 1 - Spent the day at Mrs. Wilmot's. Had a nice supper, baked goose, rice pudding and cake. Present of a new apron and head dress by Mrs. W.

 

Wed 2 -Made a pair of pants for .... Lib and I are most dead with a hard cold. Mrs. Wilmot, Lib and Chub have been over to Mr. Smith's.

 

Thurs 3 - Have been washing. It rains like fun. Mrs. Wilmot is knitting striped mittens for Plina. Lib has made her apron.

 

Fri 4 - Spent the day at Mr. Wilmot's. In the eve went to singing school then come up to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s with Eth.

 

Sat 5 - In the forenoon wrote a letter to Eliza. In the afternoon Dry and I went down to Zed [Zadok Tillotson jr]'s breaking .... Found John [Prichard?]and his wife there.

 

Sun 6 - Went to Beebetown to meeting. Had the pleasure of singing with Rev. Linna. Come home in the rain. Lib is to Mr. Bryan's most sick.

 

Mon 7 - Tim and I have been washing and chopping mince meat. Spent the eve singing. Can sing in the natural scale tip top.

 

Tues 8 - Helping Tim do housework and baking pies, churning and cleaning. In the eve Dry, Tim and Chub went down to Mr. Smith's singing school. Saw Alf there.

 

Wed 9 - Been waiting on company all day. Lewis and his wife, Zed [Zadok Tillotson jr] and wife [Emily M. Metcalf] and Carrie [Caroline Tillotson] just at night John Prichard and wife came. All staid to Uncle's except Zed's folks.

 

Thurs 10 - All went over to Uncle Leonard's, the first time I have eat there since May. Had a very good time considering Mr. Smith was boarding there.

 

Fri 11 - Spent the day at Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s. Sam came over a little while tonight. They have gone down to Jim's. Dry, Tim, Lot and Chub have been to the singing school.

 

Sat 12 - Helping Tim do housework. Dry took Sam, Lib and Chub to the sing. Tim had to stay at home to visit with Lucinda. Saw Cal there.

 

Sun 13 - Cal came up and took Lib and Chub over to Sherm's. Had a good visit. Came back and spent the eve to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s. Sung a little.

 

Mon 14 - Spent the afternoon to Jim's with Samuel and Lucinda. Tonight Lib and I are staying with Aurelia/Amelia. Lib has got a hard headache.

 

Tues 15 - Came up from Mrs. Stow's in the morning to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s. Helped Tim do out a big washing. It is raining like fun. I am tired to death.

 

Wed 16 - Tim has had another side ache spell this morn. Was hard sick in the afternoon. Dry, Tina and Chub went down to Zed [Zadok Tillotson jr]'s. Am staying here tonight.

 

Thurs 17 - Spent the day to Zed [Zadok Tillotson jr]'s visiting with Sam. Carrie [Caroline Tillotson] was taken sick in the night.

 

Fri 18 - Put on quilt for Lib. Carrie [Caroline Tillotson] is hard sick. Zed [Zadok Tillotson jr] and ... came and brought Lib and I up to singing school. Was not but a few there. Come home with Dry and Tim.

 

Sat 19 - Done my ironing. Wrote a letter to Lott. In the eve went down to the sing. Paine Liman was there. Had a good one. Received a letter from Eliza.

 

Sun 20 - Dry, Tim and Chub have been to Beebetown to meeting. Ma rode home with us. Lewis spent the eve with us.

 

Mon 21 - Tim and I have been washing. Took tea with May and Mrs. Bosly. Went down to Nett's just at night. Wish I could see Lib.

 

Tues 22 - Went down in the morning to see Mr. Stow. Came back and took dinner with Nett. Took tea with Uncle Leonard. Went down to Smith's sing.

 

Wed 23 - Got fixed up to go down to Harkiss and then he did not come. Dry and Tim went to work. Uncle Dan [Tillotson] kept house with a little of Chub's help.

 

Thurs 24 - Rained all day so that Dry and Tim would not come home. I do hope they will come tomorrow. I am so lonesome.

 

Fri 25 - Dry and Tim did not get home until 11 o'clock, then went down to the sing. Had a very good one. Went home with Mrs. Wilmot.

 

Sat 26 - no entry

 

Sun 27 - Went to church. Came home with Dry and Tim. Alfred came up in the evening. Had a good sing.

 

Mon 28 - Tim and I have been washing. In the afternoon went to Strongsville to attend Jonas Strong's funeral. How uncertain is life, how certain is death.

 

Tues 29 - Ironing and helping Tim do housework. Bern has been here a little while. In the eve Dry and Chub went over to Alfred's spelling school. Had a good time.

 

Wed 30 - Dry, Tim and Chub have been down to Mr. Barber's for a visit. In the eve made a short visit to Garry's. Was sorry Bern was not there.

 

Thurs 31 - Helping Tim do housework and sewing some. In the eve went down to ... speaking school. House full.
