April 1861

 

Mon 1 - Stormed so I could not wash. Have been making a shirt for W.C. Stow. What a lonesome day.

 

Tues 2 - Washed in the forenoon. Lib came over and helped me. In the afternoon Lib and I went down to Mr. Thayer's.

 

Wed 3 - Ironing and sewing. Amelia has been here. Have got the toothache. Oh yes, have been to hear the Harmonian Bards.

 

Thur 4 - Had lots of company. Mother, Mrs. Ward, Leigh and Lib. Walked down to the sing with John Wait and Lib.

 

Fri 5 - Done up the work for Ab [Abigail Heacock], then went up to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s to eat. Well, it was something darn good.

 

Sat 6 - Staid to Uncle [Dan Tillotson]'s until after dinner. Then Tim, Lib and Chub came down to Harry's. The Steven's girls and Alfred came over and sung a little.

 

Sun 7 - Went down to church with Harry's folks in the big wagon. Had a sing with Harry and Mr. Pond. He is a tip top good singer.

 

Mon 8 - Come over to Mr. Wilmot's in the morning. Have been making needle books. Oh how sleepy.

 

Tues 9 - Staid to Plina [Wilmot]'s all day. Rained so we could not go home. Making night caps.

 

Wed 10 - Spent the day to Plina [Wilmot]'s. Mrs. Barber and Mrs. Curtis spent the afternoon with us. Put come down after us just at night. Tonight we are staying at home.

 

Thur 11 - Come up to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s in the morning and went down to Mr. Olin's with Dry. Had a good visit. Gil run off and left us. Went down to the sing.

 

Fri 12 - Lib and I have been washing and ironing. Gil come up this afternoon. Had a good sing. Oh, how I do hate to have Lib go off. I shall die without her.

 

Sat 13 - Gil staid until after dinner. Lib has finished her sachel. Went down to Nett's and got Lib's things. They are all packed ready to start.

 

Sun 14 - Lib and I have been to church together perhaps [the last time] for a long time. Jennie B. [Bryan?] is staying with her tonight. This is the last night. Oh dear.

 

Mon 15 - Well, I have been to Berea with Lib. Have left her, my best-my only friend, and knowing what it means to part with a dear friend.

 

Tues 16 - Washing. Had a very large one. Lib did not start until today. Wish I had went with her. I am left alone.

 

Wed 17 - Ironing and baking. James [Heacock] got me cloth for a sun bonnet-- very pretty.

 

Thur 18 - Done up the work then come up to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s. Have been making my bonnet. Did not go to the sing.

 

Fri 19 - Finished my bonnet. Tim and I went down to Nett's and Jim [Heacock]'s just at night. Lot is 29 today.

 

Sat 20 - Went over home in the morning. Making my sachel and helping Mother. Am staying at home tonight.

 

Sun 21 - Went down to church with Dry and Tim. Heard today that Alfred has enlisted and gone to Cleveland today. I am afraid I never shall see him again.

 

Mon 22 - Washed and ironed for Ab [Abigail Heacock]. Come down to Mr. Stow's just at night. Tired to death.

 

Tues 23 - Done a large wash. Did not get done until 3 o'clock. What a dog's life I have to live.

 

Wed 24 - Ironing and churning. Mrs. Stow and Becca have been to the center. Got each of them a dress.

 

Thur 25 - Cleaning chambers, washing windows and made Mrs. Stow's dress skirt.

 

Fri 26 - Cleaning house and sewing on that dress.

 

Sat 27 - Doing housework all day. Stormed so that I could not go up to Uncle Dan [Tillotson]'s.

 

Sun 28 - Went up to Dry's in the morning but they had gone. Went over and spent the day with Ma. Wrote to Lib.

 

Mon 29 - Washing. Did not get done until 4 o'clock. Wish I could see Lib. Have got the blues.

 

Tues 30 - Ironed. Amelia [Heacock] went up town. Nett come down a little while.
