Questions and Answers

The following questions and answers were generated by a bunch of Highlander-obsessed people who like to spend their spare time making lists of everything and anything to do with Highlander and checking video tapes for the oddest pieces of stuff. This info is only as perfect as the combined knowledge of the group - no guarantees, though we do have some dang astute folks with us. If you should happen to spot any errors or have any additions to make, jump up and down, go and check your tapes, and then e-mail JR, who will tell the group and make the correction! You will notice there is some personal commentary built into some of the answers - don't take offense. I'll list the questions first, in case you'd like to challenge yourself. Click on the Roman numeral to go to the answer, or just scroll down to read both questions and answers. They're not in any particular order. Pages will be added from time to time as long as we keep thinking them up . . .

Questions:

I. We've seen many swordfights over the course of 5 & 1/2 seasons and on occasion, swords have been broken. Can you name the eps and who was involved in the fight?

II. Over the years, MacLeod has owned many weapons. In recent years, his weapon of choice for fighting Immortals has been his katana. Name all the instances in which MacLeod takes an Immortal's head with a weapon other than the katana, and name the other Immortal involved.

III. Name the various musicians/singers who ended up in front of the camera on Highlander: The Series (& the relevant episode/s).

IV. Well, we've seen a lot of death in the show, but we've also seen some births. Can you name the episode and circumstances?

V. This one's in the "timing is everything" department. Name the episodes, plus the women & the intruders if you like, that show us DM sensing an Immortal at that most inopportune moment--while in bed w/ a lady.

VI. This question deals w/ the introductory sequences--the graphics, monologue, & clips that introduce the show & run along w/ the Queen theme song & the regular actor credits. There's only 1 clip that appears in every introduction used for all 6 seasons. Describe the clip & identify its origin.

VII. Awhile ago we had a speculative discussion on the Forum concerning whether or not Watchers routinely observe Q's. We came to no firm conclusion one way or another. Watchers aside, however, we do know that mortals are not supposed to see the fireworks (though how they manage to miss them on some occasions... sorry, I'm digressing...); nonetheless, for one reason or another, some have been very close at hand at the climactic moment. So: name the (non-Watcher) mortals who have witnessed a Q and any other pertinent details (ep, who was fighting, etc).

VIII. Name all the pre-immies we've seen.

IX. Name as many eps as you can in which music by Jim Byrnes was used in the background - include the scene, the song, and the ep.

X. Connor MacLeod only appeared in one episode - The Gathering. Name as many episodes as you can that he was mentioned by name, including the context in which it happened.

XI. As far as I've noticed, there's only one actress who has played 2 DIFFERENT roles in the SAME HL episode. Name the actress, the 2 characters & the episode.

XII. Name all the eps with non-DM flashbacks.

XIII. Name the episodes in which Mel Gibson's name was mentioned and by whom. Also which episode did Duncan MacLeod do something that Mel Gibson's character did in at least two of the Lethal Weapon movies.

XIV. Darius was a very important figure in Duncan's life, and although he only appears in a few episodes, his influence pervades the rest of the show.
A) Name the episodes in which Darius appears (in the present day, not fb's).
B) There are only two fb scenes in which Darius appears, but one of them has been used several times. Name them and the episode in which they appear.
C) Darius' church shows up again at least twice after season one. Can you tell me when?

XV. There are 6 cases where the immortal receiving the Q did not actually do the beheading. Can you name the eps, the immies involved and who (or what) did the beheading?

XVI. Which two episodes have the same TWO guest stars, each in a different (non-recurring) role? What are the episodes, what are the names of the two actors and what are their characters' names?

XVII. One actress plays a different character in three HL episodes. Name the actress, the three episodes and the name of her character in each.

XVIII. Name two sword fights during which poetry was quoted. Who was involved, which episode, etc.

XIX. Name the episode & the other Immortal involved where, seeing a quickening in the distance, Richie thought Mac might well have lost his head. Also, name the episode & the other Immortal involved where Mac had the same fear about Richie.

XX. Since the first time DM fell in battle with a rival clan and awoke an Immortal, we have seen him "die" many more times in many different circumstances. Name the episodes in which he "died" and explain how.

IV. Well, we've seen a lot of death in the show, but we've also seen some births. Can you name the episode and circumstances?

And the answer is there are 2. The baby Grace Chandel was delivering when she and Duncan met (Saving Grace) and Anne's baby Mary in the caved-in subway station (The Blitz).

1.The Gathering--DM & Tessa being interrupted by a buzz from pre-Immie Richie (quite possibly a combo-buzz from Slan & even Connor, who were around as well)
2. Eye of the Beholder/FB--DM & the unnamed Duchess being interrupted by thieving Gabriel Piton
3. The Hunters--DM & Tessa being interrupted by dear Fitzcairn
4. The Fighter/FB--DM & the unnamed girlie under the covers being interrupted by Thomas Sullivan
5. Testimony--DM & Doc Anne (ick) being interrupted by dear Richie
6. The Immortal Cimoli--DM & Amanda being interrupted by silly Danny Cimoli
7. The Stone of Scone--DM & Amanda being interrupted by a very drunk Fitz (in the 1950 segment)
Plus, a nice bonus--Shadows, with Garrick transferring his demon visions into DM's dreams & certainly intruding on his slumber beside Doc Anne.

At the very end of them all is the building exploding. It's at night, & it looks like windows exploding in white light; if you go slow, you'll see a stone eagle or phoenix on the upper right corner of the building. The shot is from Highlander 2--the extended quickenings from the Zeist goons near the start. It's a cool explosion, but I don't know why THAT movie was so honored.

1. Richie, in The Gathering, witnessed Slan's Q going to DM. (Yes, Richie was pre-Immie, but neither he nor we knew it at the time, so I think it counts, and it was my question, darn it!)
2. Leo Atkins saw Lucas' Q going to Sheriff Creepy, I mean Crowley, in Innocent Man.
3. Tessa witnessed Caleb's Q going to DM in Mountain Men
4. In Warmonger, Drakov's thugs witnessed his Q going to DM, though they didn't know which of the two had been killed.
5. Robert Waverley and his vidcam saw the whole deal when DM defeated Matlin in Blackmail.
6. Nino the nut saw Kalas take the Q from an anonymous Immie in Finale I.
7. Helen saw her husband Alan's Q go to King in The Innocent.
8. In Little Tin God, Rev. Bell saw Larca take Luke's Q.
9. Anne Lindsey witnessed the entire process when DM finally rid the world of Daimler in Mortal Sins.
10. In something Wicked, the Chinese grocer saw Kant's Q going to Coltec.
11. Mary Shelley witnessed (and was creatively inspired by) the process when Byron slew Hans Kershner in The Modern Prometheus.
12. Numerous bystanders saw Carl Robinson take whatever-his-name was' Q in Manhunt.
13. Nick watched Katherine kill Bartholomew and take his Q in Two of Hearts.
14. And, in the "Ignorance Is Bliss" category, there is:
Most of the population of Paris, who witnessed the mother of all Q's in Finale II and thought it was a humongeous thunderstorm.

Well, the actress I was thinking of was Tamlyn Tomita, who played both female roles in The Samurai--the present day Midori Kent & the FB Maia Koto. But, most of you mentioned instead Alexandra Vandernoot, who of course in Counterfeit 2 played both present day Lisa Millon & the FB Tessa. Both these actresses fit my question, & it's a great example of fun learning in HL!

1. Nicholas Lea played Rodney in "The Fighter" and Cory Raines in "Money No Object." Tom McBeath played Coleman in "The Fighter" and Sam Grikov in "Money No Object."
2. Jeremy Brudenall played Nicholas Ward in "The Vampire" and Robert Valicourt in "Till Death." Michel Feller played a gentleman in a flashback sequence of "The Vampire" (He shot Ward) and a footman in "Till Death" in a flashback sequence.

XVII. One actress plays a different character in three HL episodes. Name the actress, the three episodes and the name of her character in each.

Lisa Butler portrayed Melissa in 'The Colonel'; Genevieve in the FB from 'Haunted'; and Jillian (Methos' love in the alternate universe) in 'Not To Be'. Lisa also portrayed little Kenny's adoptive mom in the FB from 'Reunion'!

XVIII. Name two sword fights during which poetry was quoted. Who was involved, which episode, etc.

1. Byron and MacLeod were reciting poetry during their fight in the Modern Prometheos (sp?)
2. MacLeod and Walter in Timeless.

1. In They Also Serve, Richie saw a Q in the distance; since he was racing to deliver Mac's katana to him, & judging by his expression, he appeared to fear his friend & teacher had lost his head to I. Michael Christian. Of course, Mac BH'd Christian w/ his own sword.
2. In Testimony, Mac was dashing around Kristov's house trying to find the kidnapped Richie, when he saw a Q outside; from his expression (& I believe he even mouthed "Richie"), he seemed to fear his friend & student had lost his head to Kristov. Of course, Richie in fact took Kristov's head.
