However, no one has entered Chopec pass and come out again.Captain Mathis and his team succeed in finding the wreckage and start exhuming the bodies from the crash when locals attack them. Once both sides stop firing, the missing Captain Ellison asks if Mathis’ team is his relief. Ellison is brought back to the U.S. and is the feature of at least one publication, News Update that runs the story under the headline: Beyond the Call: G.I. Survives Jungle Ordeal. 5 Years Later: Jim Ellison is now a detective with the Major Crimes unit of the Cascade Police Department in Cascade, Washington. He has been married and is now divorced from Carolyn Plummer, the Forensics Chief. The Story: A serial bomber is terrorizing Cascade with 6 bombings in the past 6 months. The bomber has a personal vendetta against Detective Ellison and is sending the detective email at work to taunt him. While on a stakeout at a lumber mill, Ellison’s senses start to fluctuate and, as a result, Ellison loses his suspect for the bombings. While waiting for the results of tests to find out why his senses are acting up, Ellison meets a young man who informs him there is nothing medically wrong and he needs to see a college professor to find answers. Taking the advice, Ellison meets Blair Sandburg, a PhD candidate in Anthropology at Rainier University, who explains a theory by Sir Richard Burton (the explorer, not the actor) about tribal watchmen. These watchmen were chosen because of a genetic advantage that allowed for heightened senses. After Sandburg saves Ellison from being run over by a garbage truck, the two start a tentative relationship: Ellison gets control of his senses and Sandburg gets to write about it for his doctoral thesis. Ellison receives another e-mail from the Switchman stating the next target would be the last and the bombing would happen the next day. With a small window of time left, Sandburg encourages Ellison to use his senses to find evidence to solve the crime. Their investigation leads them to Cascade Harbor Tours and Veronica Serris. Serris highjacks a tour bus and informs Ellison she used the bombings as revenge against him because her father was part of the detective’s unit lost in Peru. She also states the last bomb is on the bus. Ellison finds the bomb using his hearing, and Serris is arrested for her crimes. Episode Oddities:
