Manitoba joins confederation in 1870. Manitoba has a long history the first European first was Capt. Thomas Button in 1612. Manitoba is the easternmost of the three prairie provinces, bordered east by the province of Ontario, and to the west by Saskatchewan.

  • The largest community in Manitoba is Winnipeg with a population of 618 475 (1996). Manitoba has a population of 1 113 898 (1996) . The temperature in winter is between -18°C to -27°C. In summer 11°C to 25°C. More than half of the annual precipitation falls in the summer in the form of brief showers.
