Magyar nyelvű tartalomjegyzék - List of contents in Hungarian

Hello! My name in GeoCities is kolumbusz. You will know about its reason if you read my curriculum vitae. But first, please, read my greetings!
Portrait of the Artist as a Tourist

Let me tell you briefly what you will find on my page at the moment:

Greetings - a few words about a happy family and a beautiful city, Budapest.

You will find my curriculum - a detailed, professional account of my activities. Being a writer, poet, translator and lyricist, you will mainly find the titles of the works written in Hungarian or translated into the Hungarian by me. (You will also find something in English.) However, I worked as a producer as well. And I have something to show you in English, too. Besides, made a lot of other things, too. You will see them, if you click here.

Unfortunately, if you don't speak Hungarian, I can't show to you some of my favourite works. (But if you do speak Hungarian, you will find a lot of my works in the Hungarian Electronic Library in Hungarian.) I also give you a few examples of my work in Hungarian here. You may find a poem written to my wife and an article in which I answer the question: which is my worst poem of all?

In another article I deal with the history of writing lyrics. Attached to this article I show one of my favourite lyrics, from the CD of my wife, KOVÁTS Kriszta. In another short article I write about the Hungarian operettas. Being a member of the Presidential Board of the ARTISJUS Hungarian Copyright Agency, I find it proper to put here my article about some copyright problems. These texts you will find in Hungarian. It is a beautiful language, believe me!

However, I give here the synopsis of my favourite piece in English. The other play I am able to present you in English is my rock opera, Kolumbusz. In a few days I will give you the book and lyrics in English. Come back to my site to see if it has already arrived! (It took more than two months for Columbus to arrive at America! I may be quicker.) This rock opera was a great success in Budapest in 1992-93. When I will become technically more clever, I will show you a few tunes of it, too. Its music was composed by my friend, GALLAI Péter, a famous Hungarian rock composer and keyboard player.

I write his name in this order for we Hungarians have a few special features. One of them is that we write and say family names first, personal names after it. We act in the same way with postal addresses: first comes the city, then the street, then the number of the house.

As I was just speaking about my friend GALLAI Péter, I realised I have a photograph about him, taken recently. He composed music to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, I wrote the lyrics. On this photograph you will see GALLAI Péter, KOVÁTS Kriszta, my wife, and BORBÉLY László, an excellent Hungarian actor, singing together one of the songs of Alice in Wonderland.

Doesn't this system of writing names and postal addresses remind you of the folder/file system of the computers? I think this is more than pure chance. John von Neumann's original name was NEUMANN János and he came of Hungarian origin. By the way, he went to the same school in Budapest, as Eduard Teller, whose Hungarian name is TELLER Ede. It must have been a good school, don't you think so?

This feature of the Hungarian language appears also in Japanese and in Chinese. This is one of the reasons why we think we came from the very far East. By the way, one of my interests is learning Chinese. I began to learn it in the summer of 1996 and I learn about one hour every day since.

You will also find a letter of mine on this page which refers to an interesting article, "How we confuse symbols and things" written by Paul Lutus . Paul Lutus is the creator of Arachnophilia, a CareWare software, which helps me building my site. I suggest you to visit his site! The title of the letter is "Thinging in symbols".

You may visit my friends on the web, too.

Editing this page I used Arachnophilia. However, Arachnophilia is able to edit much more complicated pages. I am a beginner in editing HTML.
