Editorial by Edward MacGroden
Am I the only one who is less then thrilled with the current protectors of Los Angeles? For years we had a very reliable superhero team, the Guardians of Justice. I felt safe knowing that they were out there. I no longer feel safe.
Freedom Force doesn't seem to have it's act together. Yesterday, they were lead around like fools by the Ultimates, the day before their leader, Sekhmet, attacks a church. They have had their base blown up, and in their last "successful" battle, they destroyed part of Hollywood Blvd. You will excuse me if I don't have a lot of confidence in this team.
To make matters worse, they act like children. In the recent battle on Hollywood Blvd. several members were wearing t-shirts that said "Ultimates Suck." Then the Ultimates proceeded to embarrass them yesterday. In a certain way, Freedom Force brought this upon themselves and the city. This is not my idea of a superhero team.
Their leader, Maelstrom, is nothing more then a glory hound that uses his superhero identity to get jobs doing paid endorsements on television. This however pales in comparison to Sekhmet who defaced a church. Perhaps she hasn't heard about freedom of religion. I don't exactly find these individuals to be acting in my definition of hero. Perhaps my definition is to limited, but somehow I don't think so.
The old Guardians of Justice fought the Ultimates in the past, and won every time. The Ultimates never succeeded in getting this close to nukes when the Guardians were around. But that's no longer true. The Guardians are gone, and I don't think they are likely to come back. Now we are stuck with Freedom Force.
