Background Part II

The Order of Freedom and Justice

The Order of Freedom and Justice is an alliance of five separate superhero teams, the New Guardians, the Freedom Force, Deathstroke, the Champions, and the Guardians of Justice.  These five teams have aligned themselves together to help fill the void of the loss of the Order of Freedom and Liberty.  The name is taken in honor of the original Order and the Guardians.

The Guardians of Justice was formed in 1992 by Conquest, one of the original members of the Order.  Originally dying in WWII, Conquest was saved and rebuilt into an Android.  Conquest gathered together Kid Cosmic, who was the son of Cosmic Man; Void, the mistress of darkness; and Tempest, master of the elements as the first members of the team.  Shortly after Godfrey, son of Thor joined the team, who not only was a member, but the financial supporter of the team.  Later members would be Guardian, the Israeli super-soldier; Daemon, the spawn of hell; and the Blank, the faceless hero.  The team would remain the same for several years as they fought supervillains in Los Angeles and beyond.  Slowly they became the second most respected team in America after the Order of Freedom and Liberty.

Then Genocide started it's was against superheroes.  The Guardians of Justice were called in to stop riots in San Francisco after Jetstream was killed by Genocide.  It was during these riots that the Guardians would recruit Foxbat onto the team, as long as he didn't break parole, for his help against Genocide, as well as Chuck, Foxbat's sidekick.  Shortly after, the Guardians would lose one of their own to the bullets of Morgue, leader of the West Coast division of Genocide.  Godfrey would be shot in the head in his office in downtown LA, an act that led to a battle between Genocide and the Guardians.  The Guardians won, but they had little time to celebrate their victory, as Biohazard soon would attack Hollywood.  The Guardians barely managed to take him down too.

Then the Order of Freedom and Liberty died. The threat of Genocide had subsided, but many of the world's superheroes were dead as well.  The Guardians of Justice did what they could to take up the slack, but it would be a hard road.  Tempest and the Blank left the team, both for personal reasons.  Kid Cosmic would disappear as well.  The remaining members were forced to deal with a world of increased crime, and very few superheroes.

New York City then was threatened by the Society of Sodomy, a twisted team of supervillains, led by the sick and twisted Vicious.  A giant force field surrounded the city, keeping everyone out and leaving the city defenseless against its supervillains.  Help soon came from the mysterious Thorn, a new hero who lived in NYC.  The Society of Sodomy was defeated, and the force field was shut down.

Shortly after the battle for NYC, the Guardians changed their name, in honor of the old Order they now called themselves the Order of Freedom and Justice.  New members soon joined after that, Sehkmet, ancient Egyptian goddess and former member of the Order; Dreadnought, super strong hero; and Hellion, child of Hell.  Soon another major threat arose, their old enemy, Mechanon.  He threatened to blow up a nuclear power plant in Kansas, which would destroy much of America's crops.  The OFJ managed to narrowly stop him.  After this battle Dreadnought would leave the team, feeling that he was not suited for the live style of a superhero, and Conquest retired as well.  With Conquest gone from the team, Void became the team leader.

Void then split the team up into two factions, one that would work out of Los Angeles, and one that would work abroad.   The team in Los Angeles would be ran by Guardian, and it included himself, Sehkmet, and new members Maelstorm, the telekinetic hero of San Diego; and Paragon, the ex-con size changer. The second team, led by Void herself, consisted of Daemon, Thorn, Foxbat, Hellion, and an old ally Chameleon.  Chuck would work with whatever team he could get on at the time.

The two teams split up even more shortly after the death of Guardian, who died on a mission with his team.  The L.A. team would rename itself Freedom Force, and it added new member Major Mercury, hero of Kansas City.  The other team remains mobile and has yet to think of a new name.  The name of the OFJ officially became the name of the alliance that the two teams had, and that of the other teams in the alliance, the Champions, heroes of Chicago; Deathstroke who had gone straight; and the New Guardians, the new team formed by Conquest.  Now these five teams work together to protect the world from villainy and evil.

Miscellaneous Items

Magic: Magic does exist in the Dark Design world, and due to superheroes like Archon and villains like Black Anne, the average person does comprehend the existence of magic. Beliefs on what magic really is differ, some believe it's something scientifically provable, some believe it's the creation of Satan, and some see it as good old fashion magic.  No one really knows why it exists, and how it works, except the chosen few that use it.

Superpowers: While there are many theories of why super powered individuals exist, they don't know why the laws of physics just don't work for some people.

Prison Station Zero: A prison in Antarctica, it holds the most powerful and dangerous supervillains in the world. Anyone who goes there will serve a life sentence. Only Black Anne has ever escaped Prison Station Zero.

Sanctuary: Located on an Island in the French Polynesian chain, Sanctuary is a neutral ground for supers.  Heroes and Villains, all are allowed to come here and rest without worry of combat. Pooka and Hyperion run Sanctuary and keep it a safe place to relax.

Gods: It is known that pre-Christian gods did once exist, and some still live to this day.  They are believed to be the forerunners of the modern day superheroes.
