Interview w/ Snoop Dogg, VIBE 2000
VIBE: Why do rappers from L.A. come out on the hardcore tip?
Snoop Dogg: I can't rap about shit that I don't know. Rap is a form of me broadcasting and forecasting my life ... my whole life ... so you can look at it from the perspective of where I'm from, where I'm at and where I'm trying to go.

VIBE: How did you get involved in the street life?
Snoop Dogg: My homies was selling dope and the money looked good. I was working at a job making $80 a week and they were making like $1,500 a week. They were standing in front of my house selling dope for seven or eight hours then they'd go home. But there would still be money out there lingering that they wasn't getting. So I was like, "Why don't I get a sack and get these little sales when they go home?" Before you knew it, I started missing school and it became my full-time occupation. Because of the drug dealin', niggaz started shooting at us and all kinds of extra shit. So the game was invited to me from the first time I took that sack.

VIBE: Why did you go Crip instead of Blood?

Snoop Dogg: Crips were the only gang that was in my neighborhood, homey.

VIBE: What was it like growing up in Long Beach, California?

Tray Deee: You did what you had to do to make ends meet. We were some of the less fortunate people in the community. It was a struggle for our parents so we didn't have high aspirations, but we knew that there was hope to overcome our situation.

VIBE: Talk about the new album.
Tray Deee: It's 22 tracks dealing with reality. All of 'em have quality production. We put our heart and soul in it to give people the perspective of the east side of Long Beach. We got Xzibit, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Suga Free and CPO doing some cameos.

VIBE: How did you guys come together?
Snoop Dogg: We all knew each other, and when I got my record label, Dogg House, they were the first people I was gonna work with anyway. So we did it as a group so when their solo albums come out, people know who they are instead of just throwing it out there.

VIBE: Why did you decide to leave Death Row?
Snoop Dogg: I don't even remember, homey.
