N.W.A. Reunion One of the most exciting moments of the "Up in Smoke" hip-hop package, currently crossing the country, is the show's conclusion, a reunion of celebrated and controversial gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A., with original members Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and MC Ren joined by Snoop Dogg in place of the late Eazy-E. But more exciting is Dre's comment at the end of the show, when he announces, "N.W.A. ? coming soon." That's a promise, he says. "Well, we have a tour bus out right now that has a studio on it," Dre reveals. "There's a few things written. We all have some ideas; I have a few ideas for tracks. Cube has a few ideas for tracks. We've all sat around already and tried to draw up a few blueprints for songs." "We have an idea that we really want to work with Rage Against the Machine on," adds Dre. "We would love to tour with those guys. We're just gonna get in there and mix it up and see what happens." Dre hopes that N.W.A.'s fifth member, DJ Yella, who's not participating in "Up in Smoke," will be brought into the fold when the posse returns to California after the tour ? which is still adding dates ? ends in the late summer or early fall. He expects an album, followed by a tour, during 2001. And what does he expect N.W.A. to sound like nearly 15 years after its inception? "You know, we're all wondering the same thing right now," Dre admits. "We're definitely going to keep our edge. We're going to come out and say a few shocking things ? things that'll make Eminem raise an eyebrow or two. I think we can do it." |
