The actual score was Florida State 31, Virginia 24.
Grady Moore wins this season's biggest Predixn Derby, sharing the championship with the mysterious "Paper Chase Guy"; both had a difference of 4.47. Unlike the NCAA, the Predixn Derby does not have a tie breaker, so they reign as co-champions this week. There was another tie for third between Ed Taylor and Michael vanPelt (5.00); this was Dr vanPelt's second trip to the top five this season as well as his highest finish. Robert Kerr (6.32) rounded out the top five.
This was not only the biggest Seminole Predixn Derby so far in 1996, it was also the first where there was a significant difference of opinion as to who would win. In the end, it actually played out that way on the field. Virginia performed like a top-ten team, and you have to wonder if home field advantage decided the game in the end. And next year the game is in Charlottesville....
Next week, the Seminoles won't have home field advantage as they travel to Atlanta, the party city of the ACC, to visit the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. Don't let the stupid-looking mascot fool you; Tech has a real team this year, a fact the Wahoos can testify to. A Florida State win would all but decide the league title for 1996, while a Georgia Tech win would focus ACC fans' attention on the November 16 showdown 'twixt Virginia and Carolina-Chapel Hill. So, if you have a predixn for the score of the Seminoles versus the Bugs, send it to:
Make sure you put something like "FSU @ GIT" in the subject line, so I know it isn't unsolicited e-mail spam that deserves mailbombing. Send it early so it gets here before the deadline, which is kickoff on Saturday, November 2. I'll e-mail back a confirmation in a day or two, unless you wait till the last day, in which case you take your chances (I've given up taking my laptop tailgating). All entries will be recorded to be scored and ranked following the game, with results posted to the newsgroups alt.sports.college.acc and alt.sports.football.college.fsu-seminoles.
If you're better at reading the Wahoo's future, Scott Mandell will be taking predictions for Virginia at Duke. If you have an idea on just how bad life will be for the Blue Devils November 2, send it to:
The usual instructions apply.
A big thank you to everyone who played this week, and I look forward to seeing your predixns for Georgia Tech. Good luck, and go 'Noles!
