The actual score was Florida State 51, North Carolina State 17.

Thurston Long topped the forecasters this week, with his 52-14 call. A missed Wolfpack field goal, and Bentley perfect on the extra points would have put him right on the mark. As it was, his difference of 3.16 matches the one that won the Duke contest for Allen Risley. This week, Risley fell to 42nd, and will be looking for a comeback in the North Carolina game.

GRUE, from Seminole Territory, United Kingdom branch, grabbed the runner-up spot with a difference of 4.24. Steve Gibson apparently took advantage of his proximity to the game to take third with a 4.47. Mike Threapleton was fourth (6.00), and one of last year's champions, FSU law student Mike Sukhadwala, was fifth (6.40).

The top five from the Duke game struggled this week. The performance of California-based Risley has already been mentioned. Manny Bas dropped from 2nd to 35th, Robert Taylor from 3rd to 26th, and myself from 3rd to 24th. But to misquote that great Austrian philosopher, Schwarzeneggar, "We'll be back."

Thanks to everyone who took time to e-mail a prediction. This is getting to be a tough group to play with -- a 10.00 still gets you into the top twenty, but just barely.

Still, if you think you can hang with these big dogs, send in your predictions for North Carolina at Florida State, a big ACC date coming up on September 28. I'll understand if you want to wait to see what happens on Saturday when the Tarheels play Georgia Tech, but please send those scores as soon as you can to:

HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US

And put something like UNC @ FSU in the subject line so I know it's not free investment advice or something. Send those messages early to make sure they get here before kickoff on the 28th.

One last big thank you to everyone who prognosticated this week. Good luck in Game Three!

Herb Wills, HWILLS@FREENET.TLH.FL.US
