TRUCIAL COAST

BRITISH TRUCIAL COAST AGENCY
"Trucial Coast" was the name given to the southern coastal region of the British
Residency of the Persian Gulf.

It included the states of :

- Abu Dhabi
- Ajman
- Dubai
- Kalba (since 1936)
- Ras al-Khaimah
- Sharjah
- Umm al-Qaiwain

Native Agents (at Sharjah)

From 1823 to the appointment of an official representative in 1939, the defence of
British interests on the Trucial Coast was entrusted to so-called "Native Agents",
local Arab or Persian traders, who had a good knowledge of the local culture and
of the local economic and political conditions.
