ABU DHABI

SHEIKHDOM OF ABU DHABI

The state of Abu Dhabi was founded ca. 1761 when members of the Banu Yas tribe, headed by the Al Abu Falah clan, settled on the island of the same name. Abu Dhabi was a signatory of the treaties of 1820, 1835, 1843 and 1853 and became a British protectorate - subject to the residency of the Persian Gulf - in 1892. __________________________________________________________________________________
