UMM AL-QAIWAIN


SHEIKHDOM OF UMM AL-QAIWAIN

In 1820 the Sheikhdom of Umm al-Qaiwain, ruled by the al-Ali clan of the al-Mu'alla tribe and till then a dependency of the al-Qawasim state of Ras al-Khaimah, was declared independent by the British. It was a signatory of the treaties of 1820. 1925, 1843 and 1853 and became a British Protectorate subject to the residency of the Persian Gulf in 1892. __________________________________________________________________________________
