AJMAN

SHEIKHDOM OF AJMAN

In 1820, the Sheikhdom of Ajman, ruled by the Al Abu Khurayban clan of the an-Na'im tribe and till then a dependency of the al-Qawasim state of Ras al-Khaimah, was declared independent by the British. It was a signatory of the treaties of 1820, 1835, 1843 and 1853 and became a British protectorate - subject to the residency of the Persian Gulf - in 1892. __________________________________________________________________________________
