History

April May June July August September October November December

  • April 21 - Caspian and Maedhros are hired by Aethilmir to travel to Durvik's Pass on a mission.

  • April 24 - Tarrin is charged by her druidic circle with investigating a strange disease infesting the area around the town of Durvik's Pass.

  • April 25 - Selwyn is sent by her monastery to gather information about the mysterious happenings at Durvik's Pass. She meets Caspian, Maedhros, and Tarrin as they are all heading to speak to the mayor of Durvik's Pass. The party finds out that the disease seems to be caused by 'demons' that have invaded the mines recently. They agree to travel to the mines and investigate the situation.

  • April 26 - The party explores the mines and runs into kobolds and the traps they have set. After a few battles, the group travels to Durvik's Pass for some healing, then returns and battles the main group of kobolds, capturing their chieftan and his children. The party puts them in a jail in Durvik's Pass and rests.

  • April 27 - Upon waking up, the group discovers that they are all infected with the burning plague, but decide that their best hope is to assault the mines once more and hope to find the source. After battling their way to the bottom of the mines, the party fights an orcish cleric who had cursed the water supply of Durvik's Pass. His defeat breaks the curse and the party returns to town to recover from their sickness.

  • April 29 - Caspian and Maethros return to the Silver Valley to pick up their reward as well as a few items for other members of the party.

  • May 4 - Caspian and Maethros return from their trip to find that the village has recovered from the Burning Plage.

  • May 5 - The party agrees to travel to Oakhurst and check up on some friends of Lena's that she is worried about. The first day of travel leads the group to the Foothills Monastery, where Selwyn grew up.

  • May 6 - The road leads on to the village of Thorsten's Climb, Tarrin's home. She takes the group to meet a fellow druid and give her report on Durvik's Pass.

  • May 8 - After passing through the small thorp of Aspenvale, the party arrives in Oakhurst without any problems. Tarrin spots some strange-looking shrubs on the outskirts of town, but does not recognize them. The adventurers quickly learn about the odd happenings and recent disappearances in Oakhurst and decide to travel out to the Sunless Citadel to look for the missing party.

  • May 9 - A short trip out of town brings the group to a long, wide chasm in the ground that opens up onto a subterranean keep. After fighting off some dire rats, the party explores the area and comes across a dangerous water-creature with powerful magical abilities. Caspian brings the fiend down with the magical mace the party captured. After a short recovery, the group explores further and captures a lone kobold, Meepo, who seems to be very distraught that goblins have stolen his pet 'dragon'. He leads the party to his leader, Yusdrayl, who bargains the return of the dragon in exchange for some possibly magical items that she guards. The party explores the ruins further, fighting a horde of dire rats led by a huge queen rat and finds the body of the missing ranger. They explore further and overcome several goblins, finding a jail and freeing Erky, a gnomish cleric of Garl Glittergold. Erky joins forces with the party and the group presses deeper into the complex, first fighting a group of goblin guards, then coming upon the main goblin encampment. After a tough battle, the party barricades themselves into the ruins of an old cathedral and rests for the night, successfully repelling all attacks.

  • May 10 - After using magic to heal themselves, the party leaves the goblin-controlled area of the Sunless Citadel and returns to talk to the kobolds. Caspian launches into an assault while negotiating, and the party is overcome and captured by swarms of kobolds.

  • May 23 - The party is ransomed to the town of Oakhurst a few weeks after being captured. The party members return to their homes to rest and recover before planning another assault on the underground ruins.

  • June 22 - After resting and re-equipping themselves, the group of adventurers regroups at the Foothills monastery and sets out for Oakhurst, to clear the Sunless Citadel of the evil that infests it.

  • June 25 - Arriving in Oakhurst after a pleasant summer trip, the party meets Peddeshar, a cleric of Hieroneous. They agree to join forces to assault the Sunless Citadel.

  • June 26 - The party travels to the rift containing the ruins and descends, fighting undead, giant spiders, and hordes of kobolds, culminating in a battle against Yusdrayl and her minions that the party wins. The group finds a long natural tunnel and follows it for a couple of hours, but turn back when they decide that they do not want to explore this far unprepared. Upon return to the citadel, they explore a previously unopened section and overcome traps and guardian creatures to find the tomb of a dragonpriest. Since it is late in the day, the party retreats to a secret room they had found previously and rests.

  • June 27 - The group goes to explore another door they had been unable to open previously, and with Peddeshar's holy abilities, they are able to open it and find another tomb as well as a few curious items. Undead skeletons attack, but the party overcomes them with the help of Peddeshar. The party then enters the goblins' area, quickly overcoming the guards and coming to the goblin king's throne room, where the party fights Durnn, his pet shaman, hobgoblins, goblins, and a pair of twig blights. During the battle, the shaman flees by climbing down a deep shaft covered with sickly looking vines, but Durrn and his cronies are destroyed and their treasure captured. The party returns to the surface only to find that their rope has been gnawed through by the dragonpriest's guardian creature. They manage to make it to the surface and return to town for a few days of rest.

  • June 28 - While in town, the party visits the shrine of Pelor, staffed by a cleric who mistakes Mhaedros for an adventuring companion of old. Selwyn also takes this opportunity to ask around town about her parents - a monk at the Foothills Monastery had told her that her parents had come from Oakhurst. Selwyn doesn't find any concrete information, but does find out that about the same time period there were a young couple carrying a small child with them that were pursued by evil-looking men in heavy armor and wearing unusual symbols.

  • June 30 - The adventurers return to the Sunless Citadel and explore the long passageway from the kobold's area, finding that it seems to lead into the upper reaches of the Underdark. They then descend the deep shaft found in Durnn's throne room and come across undead skeletons and twig blights in a large rotting garbage heap. Though it is a tough battle, the party wins only to be attacked by a large bugbear and his pet rats. The bugbear puts up a fierce fight, heavily wounding several party members with his magical morning star, but in the end he is defeated by the party. The party returns to the upper level to recuperate for the rest of the day.

  • July 1 - Returning to the lower level, the group explores further, coming across signs of recent goblin occupation and many herbal concoctions, mixtures, and experiments. They fight and defeat another couple bugbear gardeners and find some kind of dragon shrine haunted by a shadow-creature. It drains Tarrin of strength, but the party destroyed it. Exploring further, the party finds Belak's study. After fighting some skeletal gardeners, they hole up in the study to rest. Belak comes to investigate several hours later and the party fights him and his servitors, defeating the Outcast. It is too late to save Sharwyn Hucrele, but the party does destroy the evil tree Belak had been tending.

  • July 4 - After resting for a few days the group agrees to help out the mayor of Oakhurst by tracking the last of the twig blights. Setting out with Devlin, a young tracker, they follow the tracks and run into an ambush set by mountain orcs and ogres. They find the remains of a messenger carrying a cryptic message, but continue to follow the tracks towards a mountain pass before turning back to Oakhurst.

  • July 5 - The adventurers spend one more day in Oakhurst where Maedhros summons a bat familiar, Aelu. They also hire a courier to return their ransom money.

  • July 6 - The party travels to Rothvale uneventfully. Upon arriving in town, they acquire a room in The Flying Bed and spend a week buying and selling magic items, identifying potions, and copying scrolls. The group hears several interesting rumors, Peddeshar has an encounter with some clerics of Hextor, and the party attempts to find out more information about the mysterious message they had come across, but without success.

  • July 14 - Deciding to claim the reward offered by the mayor of Oakhurst, the group decides to track down the twig blights into the mountains. A small thirst of stirges attacks the band while ascending a narrow canyon, but they are destroyed without too much difficulty. The other side of the mountain pass reveals a beautiful, isolated valley with a tower on the opposite side. Descending to the forest below, evening comes before the party crosses the vale. The peacefulness of the evening is broken when a group of twig blights attacks the party, but the adventurers destroy the abominations with the help of a magic wand they had found.

  • July 15 - The party crosses the valley. They are ambushed by flying lizard-like humanoids, but defeat the scimitar-wielding creatures without too much trouble. Later the group encounters a group of pixies who play tricks on the party, but because the adventurers react well, the pixie leader Silverleaf leads everyone to the wizard's tower. Upon reaching the tower, a gargoyle attacks the party, knocking Caspian off the edge of a cliff. The gargoyle is killed, and the party finds Caspian miraculously survived his fall. Silverleaf uses her magic abilities to open the tower door and the party ascends through the tower, overcoming several magical guardians before resting for the night.

  • July 16 - In a library the group finds what appears to be an imprisoned sorceress, and on the top floor of the tower they encounter a mad wizard and his draconian servitors. The mage looks like he has been magically controlled by the crown he is wearing, but the party defeats him before he can use any magic. They destroy the crown and spend several days resting.

  • July 19 - After freeing the imprisoned sorceress, she explains that her name is Selvanna and that her former apprentice had imprisoned her after he succumbed to the control of the evil crown. She rewards the group with several magic items and casts spells for the party. She also mentions that she knows a man in Rothvale, Lord Burdoth, who might be able to help the party with the mysterious note they recovered from the messenger.

  • July 20 - Selvanna uses her crystal ball to determine that some large monster has entered the valley while she was imprisoned and asks the party to hunt the creature for her, since she has several other concerns to attend to. The adventurers suit up and track the creature through the forest, coming upon a huge owlbear. After a tough battle, the party returns to Selvanna's tower victorious.

  • July 23 - Taking leave of Selvanna, the party returns to Oakhurst in order to collect the reward posted for the defeat of the twig blights.

  • July 24 - Returning to Rothvale, the party finds that the Lord Burdoth they had been seeking has been imprisoned, but his seneschal thinks that he has been falsely accused. He asks the adventuring party to help him by finding out who is behind the trouble, but the group decides that this matter is something that Selvanna could deal with better and make plans to return to her tower to inform her.

  • July 26 - After hearing of Lord Burdoth's troubles, Selvanna teleports to Rothvale, leaving the party to return there by foot. On the return journey, a pair of displacer beasts ambushes the party in the mountain crevice leading to the Upper Valley. Though the party is nearly overcome, one is slaughtered and the other is forced to flee into the Upper Valley.

  • July 28 - The group returns to Rothvale and finds that Lord Burdoth is still imprisoned.

  • July 29 - After spending a day taking care of odds and ends, the group meets up with Selvanna at Lord Burdoth's manor. She explains that she has found out valuable information about the plot to discredit Lord Burdoth, but she needs help in tracking down the guilty. The party agrees to help by going to a nobles' ball and searching for the spy.

  • July 30 - Caspian, Maedhros, and Peddeshar scout the inside of the ball while Selvanna and Selwyn post guard outside. The group learns several valuable pieces of information and finds the spy, but he escapes in a daring rooftop chase. During the chase, though, he dropped a magical dagger, and Peddeshar convinces the local priestess of St. Cuthbert, Cylyria, to use her divination magic to help the party. She finds that the Mistrivven family seems to be at the center of the plot, so Maedhros, Tarrin, and Selwyn infiltrate the compound invisibly while Peddeshar and Caspian create a distraction outside. Tarrin uses her druidic powers to charm the guard dogs, and they tell her about a secret door. The group sneaks inside and overhears a Mistrivven noble discussing plans with the spy. The noble discovers he is being spied upon, but the group flees invisibly and escapes without being caught.

  • July 31 - At Lord Burdoth's public trial, Cylyria uses magic to prove his innocence and reveals the treason of the Mistrivven family. Lord Burdoth rewards his rescuers, but the local ruling family seems to take a disliking to the adventurers. Lord Burdoth also informs the party that the mysterious note they had found probably refers to Pyrix, a fire mage who is sometimes in the area. The next day is spent re-equiping before traveling to the nearby city of Corlis.

  • August 3 - Along the way to Corlis the party meets a waylaid merchant named Chovin. They escort him to the safety of Corlis, and he imparts his knowledge of the Lurland cities he has traveled to. Upon arrival in Corlis the group goes to the Arm of Valor, the temple of Hieroneous, where they meet the high priestess Thauna. Thauna asks Peddeshar to go on a quest to recover a relic she thinks is hidden in some ruins in the nearby mountains.

  • August 4 - Caspian, Selwyn, and Tarrin travel to an inn where they meet the dwarven warrior Kiira. Kiira agrees to guide the party to the ruins where her adventuring party had been destroyed by undead.

  • August 6 - After resting, learning spells, and Maedhros' summoning of a canine companion (named Fang), the group sets off towards the ruins in the mountains.

  • August 7 - Arriving at the site of the buried ruins after a brief encounter with some hobgoblin raiders, the party enters and begins exploring, finding undead and traps, but little treasure.

  • August 8 - After a tough encounter with a skeletal ettin, the group encamps outside for a day of healing. A group of hill giants is spotted, but they do not see the party. Later, the adventurers spy a group of hobgoblins fleeing from something, but do not interfere.

  • August 9 - Re-entering the ruins, the party is suprised when spectral undead come through the walls to attack. Their shrieks and babbling entrance several of the adventurers, but Tarrin's singing abilities help the party fight off the magic and defeat the ghosts. Further exploration reveals several ruined chambers, including a throne room inhabited by a wraith-lord and his skeletal servants. After defeating the undead, the party finds a secret door, but decides to return the bodies of Kiira's companions to Corlis and rest before exploring further.

  • August 10 - During the return trip to Corlis, the party comes upon a group of gnolls on a narrow mountain path. Though the party defeats the gnolls, the battle attracts the attention of griffons. The party prevails over the griffons, but Kiira is killed in the fight.

  • August 12 - After resting for a day in the mountains, the party arrives in Corlis, handing over to the temple the remains of Kiira and her adventuring companions. Peddeshar spends a few days enchanting Selwyn's and Maedhros' weapons.

  • August 16 - The adventurers return to the ruins in the mountains after avoiding a pair of giants playing catch with boulders. Upon descending through the secret door, the group encounters a flesh golem that they destroy. On the other side of a second secret door they fight a huge gelatinous cube and a glyph-sealed doorway. Though Maedhros triggers the glyph, no ill effects are immediately seen. Through the door is a lot of fungus, and the next room contains deep dwarves with a human prisoner, Arianna. Arianna is an adventurer from Thurion, but her party was captured by these evil dwarves and split up as prisoners. She agrees to stay with the party until they return to the above world. Exploring further, the party runs into giant skeletons in a room full of sulphurous smoke and a trio of powerful mummies that burst out of their sarcophogi. In a nearby room they met a suspicious man who secretly charmed Selwyn and Maedhros while talking to the party. Caspian soon figured out what was going on and the party fought the vampire and a swarm of summoned rats. Peddeshar was able to dispel the magic spell on the party members and the vampire was soon reduced to a cloud of mist. Following the gaseous form into a crack in the floor, the adventurers soon unearthed the vampire's coffin and dragged it out into the sunlight to destroy the resting form inside. The next couple days were spent resting, with several of the party recovering from a rotting disease inflicted by the mummies, and others had been drained pretty badly.

  • August 19 - The party decides that they are now rested enough to attempt the return trip to Corlis through the wild hills. The trip was uneventful.

  • August 20 - Upon arrival in Corlis, Peddeshar and Caspian return to the temple of Hieroneous to be restored. Arianna takes her leave of the party, and a week is spent recuperating and taking care of other adventuring business. During this time Peddeshar and Selwyn travel to Ambledun to commision a new breastplate for Peddeshar. The trip was uneventful, though the shrine of Hieroneous in Ambledun did admit that he could use some help against the temple of Nerull in town.

  • August 30 - Returning to the ruins, the adventurers free the imprisoned spirit of a paladin, Jhannon, who had died while searching for the Gauntlet of Arion long ago. He related the story of how his adventuring party had been overcome by a vampire living in the ruins. One had been turned into a vampire (the vampire the party had fought), but he had been spared that fate by Hieroneous - instead he became a ghost, imprisoned by the vampire's will and unable to complete his quest. A band of elves later destroyed the master vampire, and his former adventuring comrade became the master of the ruins, keeping Jhannon imprisoned until the party came and slew him. Jhannon's spirit could sense the nearness of the Gauntlet, but could not give a definite direction. During their exploration of the ruins, the party opened the door to a summoning room, accidentally freeing some type of summoned creature. After a long battle with the teleporting fiend, the party eventually ran it to ground and was able to destroy it. Exploring further, the adventurers found the resting place of the Gauntlet of Arion and a good-sized cache of treasure to boot. The spirit of Jhannon was able to rest at last, and the group left the ruins for the last time.

  • September 1 - During the return trip, the party's treasure-laden mule was almost carried off by a wyvern, but Selwyn lept through the air to stun the creature just as it was getting airborne. Once it was grounded the rest of the group made short work of it.

  • September 3 - The party arrived in Corlis safely and with all their treasure intact. Peddeshar returned the Gauntlet to the temple of Hieroneous, and Thauna heaps praise upon the group. She later returns the Gauntlet to him, saying it is Hieroneous' will for him to wield it in the name of valor. During a week of resting, Caspian takes his leave of the group, saying that there are pressing policy matters in the Silver Valley that he must attend to. Later, however, the party meets Aramil, an adventuring ranger of the Shield, a group operating out of Lord Orvas' Shieldkeep. He had been seeking the party for help in his mission to track a red dragon to its lair and destroy it before its depradations could spread into the Upper Valley. The party, seeking adventure, agrees to escort him through the Serpentcoil mountains in search of this lair.

  • September 11 - Heading into the mountains again, the adventurers meet up with Tarrin, who now has a dire wolverine that follows her around. A raiding party of hobgoblins meets up with the group, and while the group lets them pass, they are suspicious enough that they discreetly follow the raiders for a half-day to make sure their targets are not humans. The hobgoblins somehow manage to ambush the party that evening, but the party destroys the raiders.

  • September 12 - The party travels deeper into the foothills and sees a white dragon flying high overhead, deeper into the mountains. They also see some large, horn-covered, dragon-like beast devouring a herd of mountain goats, but since they are distant from the creature they continue traveling.

  • September 13 - A friendly stone giant, Gotun, meets the party and sits down for lunch with them. He seems to have a real craving for chickens, but even though the party does not have any, he does share his knowledge of the region with them. The group travels on, sending Tarrin ahead in eagle form to scout and using Selwyn's amazing jumping abilities to help them cross a ravine.

  • September 14 - More traveling through the mountains. They come across a mother bear and her cubs, but Tarrin uses her druidic abilities to peacefully resolve the situation. Soon after the party is attacked by a pair of manticores who fly by and unleash volleys of iron spikes from their tails. Tarrin uses her new magical necklace to throw fireballs at the flying creatures and the party helps her destroy them, but several fires are started during the battle. The party waits around to make sure no forest fires will result, and then travels on. At twilight the party comes across a dilapidated mountain cabin that seems to be empty, so they hole up for the evening.

  • September 15 - Moving along a chain of ridges and steadily ascending deeper into the Serpentcoils, the party comes across a bright mountain meadow with a hidden cave entrance. Maedhros' familiar, Aelu, approaches the cave only to find that it is not empty! A vicious-tempered hill giant emerges to attack the party, and although it is a close battle, the combined weapons and fists of the adventurers brings the creature down. The party travels no further for the day, resting in the meadow outside the giant's cave.

  • September 16 - Moving deeper into the mountains, the party is crossing a high, windy, barren ridge when a sudden storm blows in. Peddeshar goes sliding down the mountain, but Selwyn leaps to his rescue. Seeking shelter, the party encounters a sphinx, Belthara, and successfully answers her riddle. In return she allows the group to use her lair as a resting spot until the storm blows over. She also provides some valuable information on the surrounding mountains.

  • September 17 - After more rough travelling, the party comes upon two human travellers. Herbert claims to be a sage from Madregoth specializing in dragons. His guide Larin is a large, dark-skinned axeman. They agree to share camp with the party for added security. Larin gifts Aramil with a magical arrow when breaking camp the next morning.

  • September 18 - Acting upon advice from Herbert, the party picks a relatively easy way to descend into the valley below. While moving to investigate a tower Herbert said he had seen, the party runs into a group of mountain orcs with poisoned weapons. Defeating them and tracking their path, Aramil discovers an old, rusty, metal tower with an open doorway. Though now deserted, it seems to have been the camping site for the mountain orcs.

  • September 19 - The party travels to the base of the rockslide area and sets up camp while Tarrin changes into an eagle to scout out what is on the other side. She finds a valley filled with fog covering what seems to be a swamp. On the other side of the valley is a low stone building. The adventurers decide to camp out and observe the area for a few days. That night the group is attacked by a red dragon that breathes acid. Maedhros' and Tarrin's magic does not seem to affect the creature, but it flies off into the night sky before anyone can land any blows. The party moves camp to the iron tower for the rest of the night.

  • September 20 - The party rests in the tower while Tarrin changes into eagle form to scout the swamp valley. Selvanna teleports in to check in on Peddeshar and agrees to take some messages back to the Upper Valley, as well as return with some magic potions for the party. That night, the dragon flies into the valley to attack the iron tower. It uses magical darkness and streams of it's acid breath weapon, but Maedhros fires the magical arrow of dragon slaying and kills the dragon.

  • September 21 - Peddeshar prepares to use magic to speak with the deceased dragon in order to find its lair. Unfortunately, since he doesn't speak Draconic, he spends most of a day learning pidgin Draconic in order to be able to communicate with the dragon's spirit. Even more unfortunately, when he does cast the spell, the dragon's spirit is too strong-willed to force it to answer his questions and he is not able to get any information. During this time Tarrin has been flying in eagle form over the swamp valley to scout for anything unusual.

  • September 22 - The party spends the day hacking apart the dragon in preparation for moving it inside the tower and out of sight. Peddeshar casts a spell on the dragon's body so that it does not decay further, so that later an armorsmith may be able to make armor from its' scales. Selvanna teleports in with the potions and scrolls she was to bring, but since there is little for her to do, she returns to her tower.

  • September 23 - The adventurers scale the large rockslide and descend into the swamp valley. Entering the thick fog that shrouds the swamp itself, three trolls encounter the party. They are slain, and Peddeshar is able to burn their remains with his flaming sword. Tarrin realizes that the entire swamp has been altered by fiendish energies, so the party moves around the circumference to investigate the stone structure she had spied before. Aramil is able to find orc and dragon tracks as well as some mysterious human tracks that enter the ruins but do not return. The group decides to camp near the stone structure and investigate further in the morning.

  • September 24 - After adventuring down a long tunnel, the group finds an extensive set of dwarven ruins. Aramil finds dragon tracks and begins to follow them through the huge caverns. The party is attacked by monstrous spiders, but apart from that, the caverns seem to be empty of life. The group decides to rest and regain spells before continuing.

  • September 25 - The tracks lead to a battle scene between a dragon and a group of dead adventurers, but the party finds a shield that bears a symbol that Selwyn recognizes. Finally the group comes to the dragon's hoard, built in the dwarves' former treasure chamber. After gathering the valuables up, the adventurers open a strange door and release a torrent of black swamp water that quickly begins to fill the chamber. The party leaves the caverns, but on the way out encounters a band of adventurers that attack. After a long and tough battle, they are overcome. An interesting note is found. The party returns to the surface to see the swamp drained and the former residents of the swamp fleeing into the nearby mountains.

  • September 28 - After resting for a few days near the entrance to the ruins of the dwarven city and Peddeshar's use of magic to get answers from the corpses of the adventurers, the groups sets out to return to the iron tower in the next valley over. Along the way they are attacked by a huge fiendish snake.

  • September 29 - Leaving the valley, Tarrin changes into a pony to help carry the pieces of dragon hide the group wishes to have made into armor. That night, after a day of traveling along high mountain peaks, a group of ogres attacks the party's encampment at night. Led by two powerful warriors, they deal a lot of damage to the group before they are beaten down.

  • September 30 - Traveling along a high forested plateau, the party comes across the skeleton of a human pierced through with a giant arrow. Later, the group is scouted by birdmen, but after observing the group for a bit, they fly off without approaching.

  • October 1 - Coming down off the high plateau, the adventurers discover an old stone road of probably dwarven make. Following the road greatly speeds travel, though several obstacles present themselves. After dealing with debris piles from rockslides and collapsed bridges, the group uses magic to fly over a goblin village.

  • October 2 - The party comes across the scene of a massacre of a goblin hunting party. Aramil informs the group that a dragon caused the carnage. Later, a rockslide hits the party and Aramil again finds dragon tracks near the source of the slide. That night while encamping, a group of troglodyte warriors, clerics, and giant lizards attacks the party, but Tarrin drives the lizards off while Peddeshar blinds and slays the trogs with powerful holy magic.

  • October 4 - Traveling through the foothills near Corlis, the adventurers see what appears to be a forest fire. Scouting ahead, Aramil and Maedhros spot a group of ettins, goblins, and bears moving away from what appears to be a slain adventuring party. Tracking them down, the party exacts vengeance.

  • October 6 - Arriving in Corlis after almost a month of adventuring, the group returns to Alask's Arrow inn & tavern to host a magnificent retelling of their battle with the dragon Malaeragoth.

  • October 7 - After speaking with Ferrin about the intriguing sword the party found, Aramil, Peddeshar, and Maedhros go to Sandar Kathklan's tower to ask him about the sword. Though he seems to be a very messy and eccentric (even paranoid) mage, he doesn't appear to be evil in the way the others in the city make him out to be. He is able to provide some new information on the sword's origins, but says he needs to spend some time researching to be able to tell more about its powers. Selvanna teleports into town to spend time with Peddeshar.

  • October 10 - Aramil, Peddeshar, and Maedhros return to Sandar's tower to learn more about the powers of the sword. Peddeshar extends an offer of help to the mage in return for his help in identifying the sword.

  • October 12 - A messenger approaches the party and tells them that Sandar would like to take them up on their offer of help. They are to meet him at his tower the next day at noon. However, that evening, the adventurer's relaxation is interrupted by a commotion at Sandar's tower. By the time the adventurers show up the action is over, but from piecing together what happened they learn that Mayor Artemel, Elmareen Whitestone, some city guardsmen, some Artemel nobles, and a mob went to Sandar's tower to arrest him on suspicion of treason. Sandar replied by hurling deadly magic, and Elmareen was forced to disintegrate him to protect herself. While investigating, Maedhros spies someone in the crowd who is either wearing a lot of magic items or is surrounded by many spells. Aramil and Maedhros are able to trail him to the Black Banner Inn, but lose his trail there.

  • October 13 - While speaking with Ferrin in the Black Banner inn, Maedhros notices someone eavesdropping on the group and follows him upstairs. Using a magical diguise, Maedhros enters a room and finds the same man he was trailing the previous night. The man penetrates the disguise and fires a magical wand at Maedhros, but Maedhros shrugs off the effects, snatches the note the man was writing, and turns to flee. The man fires the wand a second time, and again Maedhros resists the magic. Selwyn, Aramil, and Ferrin race upstairs to see what the commotion is, but the man, hearing Selwyn's rapid approach, flees by diving out a second-story window, running into the stables, and uses magic to escape. The party regroups to plan.

  • October 14 - Elmareen Whitestone is invited to dinner and the party is able to get a little more information from her.

  • October 15 - Aramil gets a suspicious note from Ferrin suggesting a meeting in an odd part of town. The rest of the group comes along to watch for an ambush and their presence probably saves Aramil's life when he is attacked by an assassin using magic to disguise himself as Ferrin. The assassin and his cohorts are defeated and a list of names to be assassinated is found. Peddeshar goes to find Thauna Markstar and Regis Artemel while Tarrin and Maedhros go to find Rendal. Tarrin and Maedhros are unsuccessful, but find a heavily-guarded back room where he might be hiding. Regis soon proves himself to be an incompetent, arrogant noble and sends the party away and puts his own people in charge of the investigation. Thauna and Peddeshar are able to use magic to speak to the assassin's corpse and find that he was simply a hired hand.

  • October 16 - Thauna uses scrying magic to spy on the man who wrote the note but does not turn up much useful information. Other party members go scout Sarran's House, the place where Rendal can usually be found, but find the same thing that Tarrin and Maedhros found earlier. That evening, with other party members setting an ambush in the rear, Peddeshar, Selwyn, & Rolan go in the front entrance and demand to see Rendal. A group of tough guys watching the back room start to pick a fight and they are quickly put down. The group roams the back passageways of the huge establishment and find a secret passageway through which Rendal fled. They manage to track him down and question him. He reveals that a new group in town hired his guild to assassinate the list of people the party found, but since his guild does not normally do 'wetwork', they contracted an outside killer. But Rendal also tells the party that his boss might be very interested in hiring the party to take out this new group, since their presence has been causing his guild trouble. The party releases Rendal with his promise to set up a meeting for them.

  • October 17 - The party meets with Rendal's boss in the sewers of Corlis and exchange information. They are in the middle of negotiating an agreement when the city guard breaks up the meeting and both parties flee.

  • October 18 - Ferrin carries a message from the party to the boss and sets up a meeting between Harlyn & the party at the Black Banner Inn.

  • October 19 - Rendal sets up a second meeting with the boss after the meeting with Harlyn. The meeting with Harlyn results in some new information as well as confirmation of some of what the party already suspected. The later meeting with the boss in a shadowy warehouse goes quickly and smoothly and an agreement is reached.

  • October 20 - Rendal brings information to the party on where the new group in town has their hideout at. That evening, the party assaults the underground stronghold and faces powerful guards, an unknown archmage who teleports away, and Damius, who turned out to be a powerful cleric of Vecna. After the battle the group spends time searching the caverns and finds a journal with much interesting information, a stack of trade bars from Karlon Keep, a spellbook, and much wealth. Three of the bodies are brought back to the temple of Hieroneous for questioning.

  • October 21 - Peddeshar uses magic to speak with the corpses, but only the wizard's spirit is communicative. He doesn't seem to know much other than the fact that the mage Pyrix occasionally visited Damius with orders. That night, a messenger delivers a dinner invitation to an Audella manor-house. The party accepts. A strange man in a brown cloak seems to be oberving the party in the common room of the inn. Maedhros takes his leave of the group to take care of other business, but agrees to meet the party in two weeks' time at Shieldkeep.

  • October 22 - Over dinner, Mareth Audella and his caravan master Renfred ask the party if they would escort his caravan along the way to Shieldkeep. Many merchants have been frightened by a raiding band of giants and he cannot hire enough guards to make the trip. The party agrees to accept this commission.

  • October 26 - After Peddeshar has finished enchanting the last of the items and Tarrin has finished identifying the potions the party found, the adventurers leave town with Mareth's caravan of 20 wagons and 11 guards. One of the merchants, Gunther, seems to be a big fan of the party, but his guards (a big half-orc and a weasely-looking skinny guy) don't seem too impressed or friendly. Later in the morning the caravan comes across a razed villa with giant tracks all over. Much of the livestock had been slaughtered rather than carried off, and the village looked thoroughly searched. The giants' tracks mysteriously disappeared near the village and Aramil voiced his concern that this was not the work of a typical raiding band of giants.

  • October 27 - The party discovers the remnants of an ambushed train of wagons that have been searched and destroyed by giants. Aramil is again unable to follow the giants' tracks away from the area. A storm front is quickly approaching. Tarrin, scouting ahead in eagle form, reports that a group of giants and ogres ahead are moving quickly towards another caravan coming from Rothvale. The party rides ahead of the caravan in an attempt to intercept, but arrives just in time to see the last defender fall. The giants hurl boulders, but the party uses magic to hamper their ogre minions and close for melee combat. Rolan is felled by a series of blows from the giants but his life is saved by quick medical attention. A thunderstorm sweeps across the land as Aramil follows the giants' tracks to an overgrown road that leads to an abandoned stone keep. Inside the party finds a hill giant and his human overseer as well as a journal that records the search for a potion (!).

  • October 28 - The adventurers arrive in Rothvale and are greeted by their friend Lord Burdoth. Tarrin, Aramil, and Selwyn undertake a nocturnal scouting mission to investigate Mareth Audella's caravan.

  • October 29 - After taking care of some business in town, the party leaves around noon and catches up to Mareth's caravan by nightfall.

  • October 31 - The party stops in Daemburg for a day with the caravan.

  • November 2 - Tarrin takes her leave of the party to visit with her family in Thorsten's Climb and to check in with her druid's circle.

  • November 3 - The rest of the party arrives in Shieldkeep to find a note from Maedhros noting that his business is taking longer than he expected and that he doesn't know when he will be able to catch up with the party. They are also briefly introduced to Lord Orvas. Selwyn leaves to return to the nearby Foothills Monastery after a day.

  • November 12 - After Tarrin and Selwyn have returned to Shieldkeep the party has a dinner meeting with Hardeth and Lord Orvas. Important information concerning recent happenings is exchanged. Selwyn learns from Lord Orvas what happened to her parents.

  • November 14 - A group of druids from Tarrin's circle come to consult with Lord Orvas. After the meeting Tarrin is assigned to investigate some sprites in the Border forest that have been disappearing.

  • November 16 - Tarrin and the rest of the party find the ruins of an old abbey in the Border forest near where the sprites have been disappearing. While entering to investigate, the undead servitors of a naga attack but are blasted into dust by the power of Peddeshar's deity. The naga flees invisibly after charming a couple of party members, but leads the adventurers right into a group of wraiths. Peddeshar again uses his holy abilities to turn some of them and the party fights the remainder while the naga uses her magic to hamper the party. The naga is defeated just before the other wraiths return, but the adventurers are able to overcome them as well. The party retreats into the woods to encamp for the night.

  • November 17 - The group returns to the ruins of the abbey and find a set of stairways leading to the catacombs hidden behind an illusory wall. A trio of umber hulks attack the party and several members are confused by their magical gazes. The hulks are defeated quickly, but the confused party members continue to fight for some time. Eventually everyone returns to sanity and the group retreats to the woods to recuperate.

  • November 18 - Descending into the catacombs once again, the adventurers fight a group of shadow spiders before finding a secret door that leads to a newer excavation. Behind a door marked with the sign of a spider the party finds a mind flayer with a drow and a rapier-wielding elf. Though the illithid disables a few party members with its mind blast and eats Tarrin's dire wolverine companion's brain, it is slain. The elf leaves the room quickly when this happens, appearing to be some sort of automaton, and the drow warrior is captured. At this point a dwarven warrior appears, but seems to be friendly. He introduces himself as Maegar and explains that he came searching for a gnome companion. The drow is questioned and he reveals that there is a portal to a drow city in a nearby room. Maegar collapses the room to seal the portal and the party leaves to return the captive drow to Tarrin's druidic circle.

  • November 20 - The adventurers return to Shieldkeep with Maegar and spend a few days preparing for their journey to Caernigan.

  • November 26 - Upon reaching Daemburg, Peddeshar and Rolan leave the rest of the party to work with Selvanna and to take on other missions for the church of Hieroneous. Maegar continues with the party towards Caernigan.

  • December 1 - Arriving in Caernigan, the true scope of the huge city becomes apparent. The party stops at The Bard's Guild and meets Caspian Gallus, a friendly elf who has apparently heard of their exploits. They also get a brief tour around the complex.

  • December 2 - Taking care of business, the party explores Caernigan and meets Gwenadain (who is contracted to work on repairing Dreambane) as well as stopping by the Red Wizards of Faire Street to look for magical items for sale.

  • December 4 - While returning to The Bard's Guild from a visit to Gwenadain, the party is witness to a group of vampires' attack on a merchant and his bodyguard. With their intervention the vampires are driven off and the merchant, Kathkallan, hires the group to guard his cargo and help find his contracts that disappeared with his journeyman. Everyone returns to The Bard's Guild to rest for the night, though Tarrin expresses her suspicion that something is going on that Kathkallan has not told the party.

  • December 5 - Tarrin leaves the group for the day to take care of other business. Later, a group of investigators come to ask the party some questions about what happened in the Waft last evening. Afterwards Eldrin and Urgott come to speak to the party about joining forces to find the vampires and the group sets off to retrace the missing journeyman's steps. After several stops, the party is ambushed by Catellion, a female porter, some Black Lotus monks, and a few other thugs. Catellion and the porter escape, but Eldrin uses magic to magically control one of the thugs. However, during the combat Selwyn is turned into a toad. The party searches Catellion's shop and find it to be merely a front. After returning to The Bard's Guild, Kathkallan pays a spellcaster to reverse the spell cast upon Selwyn.

  • December 6 - Aramil meets K'ieron and Asmira while the rest of the group is planning the next steps. Intrigued by their efforts to find information on the Viper Clan, the party talks to them and allows them to join in their effort to find Kathkallan's missing documents. The day is spent trying to find information on Catellion and possible allies. In the evening the group catches a carriage ride to the Avenue of Chimes and the Path of Silk Flowers. While there they speak to a friend of a missing courtesan and learn that Galliad disappeared nearby in a garden behind a large manor house. After a little searching, the party locates what they believe is the correct house but then return to The Bard's Guild.

  • December 7 - Returning to the manor in the morning, the party enters the garden to find a vicious man-eating tree. Asmira enters the back door of the building and finds a large three-headed shadow mastiff and a group of six vampires. The party defeats the tree but retreat from the house into the sunlight where the vampires cannot follow. A group of summoned monster appear and a hidden mage starts raining spells down on the party. A group of passers-by form in the street in front of the manor and the city guard arrives. The leader of the guards, Tarrell, decides to enter the now burning manor with the party in order to determine whether their story is true. Inside several empty coffins are found, but the manor is rapidly filling with smoke, so Tarrell waits outside while other party members search further. The searchers defeat a pair of vampires and recover some documents from the flames. There is a hearing before a magistrate who confiscates the documents but hands down no punishment. The group determines that the mage probably fled to a hiding place under the city's graveyard. Upon closer investigation of a family mausoleum, the party finds a secret entrance to an underground complex, though Maegar is imprisoned by a magical forcecage trap. Below, in the stone tunnels, the adventurers are attacked by yuan-ti and are then ambushed by Catellion, Anteashara, and more yuan-ti, including a psionic one and a vampiric one. Selwyn is turned into a rat and many party members are seriously wounded, but Catellionis turned into a feeble-minded idiot and Anteasharaflees. Tarrell arrives with guards after the party leaves the complex and guards the mausoleum while the group gets healed up in the nearby Temples District. Returning to search the complex with Tarrell and his guards, the large group opens a pair of wood-and-iron doors to find three heavily-armored blood golems. Their seeming immunity to the guards' weapons and Tarrell's spells force the adventurers to deal with them, and they are eventually overcome after a fierce battle. While exploring the rest of the complex, Tarrin is disintegrated by a magical trap, but the party is able to bring her back to life with powerful magic at the nearby temple of Obad-Hai. The party also fights a gigantic skeletal creature guarding the treasure room and a ghostly warrior-maiden entrapped behind a sealed door.

  • December 8 - Peddeshar and Rolan arrive in Caernigan shortly before a nasty winter storm blows into town. A messenger drops off a bag of gold for the party with a mysterious note: "For services rendered."

  • December 9 - Caernigan's city archmages determine that the heavy storm that has blanketed the area in deep snow for the past two days has been summoned by magic. Tarrin and Selwyn are asked to travel to some ruins to see if they can find the source of the magic.

  • December 10 - Maegar asks the remaining party members to help find his brother Telmarg who disappeared along with a trading caravan in the northern Serpentcoil mountains. After they agree, Maegar uses powerful magic to transport them to the cusp of a wintry mountain valley that he says the caravan disappeared in. Making its way down the mountainside, the group comes across a ruined village now inhabited by bugbears and ice gnolls.

  • December 11 - Selwyn and Tarrin are led through dwarven tunnels under the mountains by their guide Ulaf. Meanwhile, after resting in the village, the party continues into the valley, encountering a frost giant and a pack of winter wolves on the surface of a frozen lake. Nearby the group finds a huge stone keep that looks like it is guarded by more giants. K'ieron uses magic to become ghost-like and scouts the castle. During several passes through the keep he finds some dwarven prisoners and sees signs of many wolves, giants, ice gnolls, and even a white dragon. Using teleportation magic he is able to rescue the dwarves, and Aramil is able to build a snow shelter to hide and protect the poorly equipped dwarves. The dwarves know there is a hidden entrance to their tunnels below the valley, but only Telmarg knows where, and he is still a prisoner somewhere in the keep.

  • December 12 - The adventurers fight off two frost giants during the night, but in the morning the party is prepared to assault the white dragon in its icemist-cloaked lair. At first the dragon is hidden, but soon reveals itself as it drops from the ice ceiling to hover and attack the incorporeal mage. It breathes on the party several times but inflicts little damage due to the protective spells everyone has. During the battle Selwyn and Tarrin arrive from outside the castle. The two summoned earth elementals are unable to effectively attack the flying creature, but as the dragon swoops low to attack, one of the elementals throws Rolan up to deliver a fearsome blow with his greatsword. The dragon is soon brought low, but the party doesn't have time to investigate its rime-encrusted hoard before Asmira's keen eyes pick up giant activity far down a huge, ice-covered hall. Soon the party is fighting frost giants, ice gnolls, and frost salamanders as they progress towards the heart of the keep. A low, reverberating chant and rumble can be heard that K'ieron identifies as a powerful ritual of some type. Tarrin scouts in snake form and finds a room guarded by an ogre mage and more ice gnolls. Nearby the party also finds a couple more dwarven prisoners. The adventurers burst through the door and fight a horde of ice gnolls and bugbears led by the ogre mage. Behind the large doors they were guarding is the source of the chanting - a frost giant jarl guards a group of bugbear shamans conducting some sort of ritual. Though Rolan and a dwarven prisoner are killed in the battle, the party successfully disrupts the ceremony. The treasure room is nearby, but a demon appears before the group can retrieve the huge chests. The party agrees to let the demon flee, but in return the demon animates several dead giants and the skeletal remains of the dragon. The ice keep begins to shudder and collapse as the skeletal dragon approaches, but the party is able to defeat it quickly and return to the cavern with the menhirs before the ceiling begins to collapse. Grailithor's giant eagle, Gyrull, lifts some of the party members and much of the treasure to safety. Aramil oversees the construction of a second snow shelter for the additional rescued prisoners.

  • December 13 - Peddeshar uses powerful divine magic to restore life to Rolan and Telmarg. After recovering, Telmarg is able to lead the party and the rescued dwarves to a hidden entrance to dwarven tunnels.

  • December 14 - Over the course of the rest period (the party can't tell if it is actually night or not, being underground), the group's encampment is attacked by goblin berserkers backed by a powerful beholder. Though caught by suprise, Telmarg and the adventurers mount a brave defense while the dwarves flee. Though Peddeshar is turned to stone by one of the magical rays, the group is able to badly wound the beast, and Tarrin finishes it off with a flask of alchemical fire. The goblins flee into the darkness, but K'ieron chases them with fireballs, killing several more. Asmira is able to restore Peddeshar using powerful healing magic. The remainder of the rest period is uneventful, and the next day sees the group make good progress towards the dwarven citadel of Durinbek.

  • December 15 - Arriving in Durinbek, the adventurers are welcomed as heroes by the Crownshield clan (Maegar and Telmarg's clan). Staying for several days to rest and take care of business, the group sees many beautiful sights in the caverns at the mouth of the Asarwe river.

  • December 20 - After travelling down the scenic river for two days on merchants' flatboats, the party returns to Caernigan and resumes residence in the Bard's Guild.

  • December 22 - A mage at the Bard's Guild identifies one of the party's recent finds, a blue steel greatsword of exquisite craftsmanship, as a vampiric blade with the name of Fang. Though the item is not intelligent, it does have the ability to drain life from opponents to nourish it's wielder. Rolan takes this blade for use since his previous greatsword had been shattered by the frost giant jarl's axe. Another powerfully magical longsword is found to belong to a family of wealthy landowners in southern Lurland with a history of serving as paladins of Hieroneous.

  • December 24 - Selvanna uses magic to travel to Caernigan to stay with Peddeshar. Over the next several months she travels back and forth between her tower and Caernigan.

  • December 29 - Aramil hires Gwenadain to repair the crystal ball in the pommel of Dreambane, hopefully restoring the magical intelligence that once inhabited the item as well as several other magical powers.
